To John Lewis: An Open Letter to an American Hero

The left wing blog, Huffington Post, published this letter in response to the racist who shouted a racial epithet at civil rights hero John Lewis during a health care protest in DC:

I imagine this will come off a bit corny — please indulge me. When I heard what happened on Saturday outside the Capitol building, I was brought to tears. And now I feel compelled to apologize for the behavior of my fellow citizens. When I heard that some of the tea party protestors called you “ni**er” and verbally berated you for your support of health care reform, I initially assumed they didn’t realize who you were. Then I realized: they probably just don’t care.

That you’ve spent most of your life working for the cause of civil rights, often at great personal risk and alongside such icons as Martin Luther King Jr. and Rev. James Lawson is completely irrelevant to the self-named “tea party patriots.” They aren’t interested in the fact that were it not for the work of brave pioneers like you, many of them would not enjoy the extensive rights and liberties they have today.

And I doubt that more than a few will take the time to reflect on the deep shame their behavior brings to the United States and its citizens, and that how in their fear-whipped frenzy of verbal violence, they reveal a sad truth: that American racism is still very much alive and well, with its newest forms hiding behind mostly-contrived grievances like taxes and “questionable” birth certificates.

In a way, it’s a relief to have my suspicions confirmed. At least now we “anti-racists” don’t have to continue wringing our hands wondering if there is something to the accusation that we “see racism everywhere.” And although it’s a stretch to say that all tea party protesters are patent racists, Saturday’s incidents pretty much sealed the deal — fear of racial difference animates a portion, if not the entire “Tea Party Movement.” These people claim to be about the notion of “freedom,” but they not only do not seem to support the concept for those different from them, but the individuals they single out for their most vitriolic attacks are often those who have done the most for the cause of freedom for all. I would say it’s ironic, but that would imply that tea partiers understand the term “freedom.” So instead, I’ll say it’s surreal. Read More…

Ludacris Covers Honey Magazine

Grammy award winning artist Ludacris covers Honey Magazine’s March issue and discusses his 10 years in the game, his ideal woman and what it was like when he met Bill O’ Reilly for the first time.

What is wrong with black men? Don’t they understand that their women want to know that she is on his mind and she is special to him? So why do men say the dumbest things when asked about their women?

In this interview, Luda sticks his foot in his mouth (similar to how T.I. failed when asked about Tameka). Luda was asked to describe his ideal woman. Now, most of us know that Luda is in a relationshp with a non-industry (read: regular) chick who we have seen him kissing all over in several pics.
a
But here’s how he answers the question:

I don’t know what my type is until I see or meet that person. I guess I could say, intelligence, great personality and beauty, inside and out. I don’t discriminate.

Dude, aren’t you in a relationship??? Come on, don’t you realize she reads magazines?

Most of you will recall when T.I. described his fiancee, Tameka, as a “situation.” I wish I could be a fly on the wall when Ludacris tries to explain what he really meant to his woman. We know that men don’t think emotionally when they are in relationships. But is it true that black men consider their women to be out of sight, out of mind?

Honey Mag: Who is Ludacris’ mystery woman? Is she someone special in your life?
Luda: I try to preserve certain things and keep things special and that is one thing that I would like to keep private.

Honey Mag: How long is a good love-making session?
Luda: All day long.

For Obama and Democrats, ‘There Will Be a Heavy Price To Pay’

With seven months to go until the November midterm elections, the Democrats lifted their glasses of champagne toasting the passage of a bill that will end up crippling the economy. The celebrations in Washington DC lasted well into the early morning hours following the historic passage of the health care bill.

But this morning, many Democrats awoke to the sobering reality of what will take place seven months from now — when the American people make their voices heard at the polls. Political analysts predict a bloodbath at the polls as Democrats fall in record numbers, resulting in a majority Republican Congress making Obama a lame duck, one term president.

“Democrats are afraid of failure and nervous about what success could bring,” The Washington Post’s Dan Balz wrote Sunday.

Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., to George Stephanopoulos on “GMA”: “With all this euphoria that’s going on, this inside-the-Beltway champagne toasting and all that, outside the Beltway the American people are very angry. And they don’t like it, and we’re going to try to repeal this, and we’re going to have a very spirited campaign between now and November, and there will be a very heavy price to pay for it.”

Barack Obama, the narcissist, wanted more than anything to make history (again), and he has done that, but at a heavy price. In the coming days, Obama plans several trips to convince angry Americans why his bill will benefit them. But the outcome of the upcoming November elections will define his political future.

And health care is still not free for all.

Medical Minute: Anorexia Nervosa

Anorexia Nervosa is a potentially deadly eating disorder that is characterized by marked weight loss and severe body image disturbance. This psychological disorder primarily affects women who have low self esteem and an unrealistic and obsessive fear of gaining weight.

Women diagnosed with Anorexia Nervosa control their weight through self-imposed starvation (avoiding food), eating and purging (vomiting), excessive exercise, diet pills, drug use and laxative abuse.

Anorexics share an intense fear of gaining weight and refuse to maintain their body weight above 85% of the expected weight for their age and height.

In addition to the affects on the body externally, anorexia nervosa causes damage to the inside of the esophagus when food is repeatedly regurgitated (swallowed and brought back up). The constant irritation of the esophagus can lead to esophagitis, an inflammatory condition that can cause scarring and narrowing of the esophagus, making it difficult to swallow or keep food down.

Frequent episodes of vomiting can lead to severe dehydration which results in electrolyte imbalance, cardiac arrest and possible death.

Signs and Symptoms of Anorexia Nervosa

  • Depression
  • Weight loss
  • Skin changes
  • Amenorrhea (missed periods)
  • Fatigue, weakness, lethargy
  • Anxiety
  • Insomnia
  • Cold intolerance
  • Sexual dysfunction
  • Tooth decay (from the effects of stomach acid on enamel)

Treatment includes psychotherapy, nutritional counseling, anti-depressant meds, and in extreme cases, hospitalization in a medical or psych ward setting.

Anorexics are difficult to treat because they don’t believe they have an eating disorder and they often relapse into their former eating and purging pattern after treatment. The difference between a patient with anorexia nervosa and bulimia is the bulimia patient maintains their weight above average or just below average. Additionally, rather than avoiding food (as the anorexic does) the bulimia patient (secretly) binges on food and then purges (vomits) due to strong feelings of shame and guilt.

If you believe you or someone you know is suffering from anorexia nervosa or bulimia, get help immediately by calling an anorexia treatment center in your area.
