Premiere: Basketball Wives
Last night was the premiere of Shaunie O’Neal’s much anticipated “Basketball Wives” on VH1. First and foremost, there are no wives on “Basketball Wives.” There aren’t even any fiancee’s on “Basketball Wives.”
“B. Wives” is the brainchild of O’Neal, who is best known as the scorned ex-wife and baby mama of Shaquille O’Neal. She is now a star in her own right after beating a playa at his own game. Shaunie thought it would make good TV if some of her other scorned and jilted ex-girlfriends of NBA stars told their stories.
Basically, Shaunie (center) has assembled a cast of ex-wives, ex-girlfriends and ex-jump offs of NBA stars. All except one has been dumped, jilted and cheated on by their NBA meal tickets and they see the show as their one final ticket to redemption.
My favorite cast members are Jennifer Williams (far left), ex-wife of NBA player Eric Williams, who is a successful real estate agent and owner of a women’s fitness center. I also like Evelyn Lozada (3rd from right) because she’s real and she wears her emotions on her sleeve.
Lozada is also a successful business woman who owns the upscale Dulce shoe boutique in Coral Gables and Dulceshoes.net.
Dwight Howard’s baby mama, Royce Reed (2nd from left), is cast as the bad girl of the bunch and I don’t like her already. The youngest cast member, Gloria Gowan (far right), 24, is the only one who is actually with an NBA player. She has 16-month-old twins with her fiance Matt Barnes.

Those basketball chicks were thristy! They all hate Royce because she is who they are, they try and pretend that they are so classy but acting like Royce is how they got their men. Don’t even get me started on Royce…I couldn’t believe she is 29? She is a Super Thristy Captain come and save me hoe ass. She saw all those $ signs pool side and her inner hoe came out!
I didn’t see Brady & Ray J. but I did see Chilli’s show. Her dating coach reminded me of Tanisha from BGC and she will be alone forever w/that long unrealistic list of hers.

Oh, I enjoyed Chilli’s show, but she has very high expectations when it comes to a man. Just hope she’s living up to those expectations on her part!
Can’t stand Evelyn. She is lying ALOT and she look like a man. How can you date an athlete for 10 years, ever marry him then soon as he is broke you suddenly move out. Girl/Man Stop.
Also, I don’t like how they down Royce. She is who she is and I like her. I also like Shaunie. The rest are not even worth writing about.

There were a few things on her list that I also agreed with that are not deal breakers(No Smoking, Christian, no more than 1 babymama for me). Now the he has to be a non-drinker, gorgeous, have a washboard stomache and not eat pork was plain ridiculous. For a 39 year old women to have things so petty on her list made no sense. Age SHOULD bring wisdom.

Totally agree. While Tionna is great for comic relief because she was funny, I couldn’t see her as a man magnet and she was far too bold at even a classy event. When she touched the man’s penis I was too through.

I watched the show and I wasn’t impressed with the first episode. I don’t like Evelyn and the dark-skinned chick (whats her name?), but as of now, I do like Royce and Gloria. As far as Shaunie, I don’t really care for her, but I can’t hate the player. That b*tch was on top of ish in her relationship with Shaq. But I’ll be watching the rest of the season, seems like it’s going to be pretty good, but last night, it started off kinda slow. As far as the other to shows, I watch some of Brandy and RayJ, I love Sonja!!!! As far as Chilli…good luck, I turnt my TV off when it came on.

Am I the only one in the world that did not watch Basketball Wives? I watched Brandy and Ray-J and then promptly turned to HBO for the season premiere of Treme set in New Orleans 3 mos after Hurricane Katrina. I thought that was more worthy of my time than to watch a group of women on a show about wives who aren’t wives. Much respect to Shaunie though. Make that paper!

I actually tuned into this show last night….Just wow! I think I like Shaunie the best and she is the most legit in my opinion…The youngest one in my opinion thinks she has it all figured out in my opinion. I will have to see more episodes before I come to a conclusion about her fiance but I don’t think she should turn her nose up yet. I don’t think anyone should turn their nose up for that matter….Look, those women had a goal in mind and that was to score with a baller. I tried to watch Basketball Wives and couldn’t. It was just what you’d expect. Golddigging women sitting around talking about men, swinging around poles and crying. It was so played out. Jon and Kate was more enjoyable, so you know it sucked!!
I luv the Baller’s wives. Shout to Miss Shaunie for not casting anyone that looks better than her.
As for Brandy’s and Chilli’s shows, zzzzzzz and crickets. I will give them credit for not sending the Civil Rights Movement back a thousand years.

I agree a man is only going to do what you allow as far as getting married. If you let them lay up for years and are ok with that then that is what they will do IMO. I don’t think you should try and pressure/nag/ask a man to marry you but I dont think you should stay around forever IF marriage is what you desire. IF you do NOT want to get married then dont say I do and enjoy being in a relationship and keep it moving. Marriage isnt for everybody so DO YOU at the end of the day!

Basketball Wives: They cannot be serious, the whole poor litte rich girl thing…give me a break…what about the women who go through all that they are claiming to go through that don’t drive range rovers and live in million dollars houses…these chicks know what they signed up for when they get involved with these men….so they can just stop and though Royce isn’t a good look, AT LEAST she is being herself and not putting on heirs….I think the other ones are being hypocrites and are being phony….trying to act like they are all pure and pristine…please…they are cut from the SAME EXACT cloth as Royce. I did NOT like Evelyn. Overall, the majority of the “wives” seemed really messy. I do not like how Evelyn came at Royce about dancing on stage. SO WHAT? ROyce is the representative for the crew. Not saying I would do what she did, but hell, it’s not like she was repping for the rest of the girls cuz it’s not like they are even real “friends.” It seems like they were looking for something to be wrong with her. I guess THAT’s the reality of “reality” TV–there always has to be a villain.

I don’t watch reality shows but I love reading yalls commentary on them. Anyway, I’ve never liked Chili and have always thought something was off with her from wearing the same exact hairstyle for the last 20 years, to dating a man in his early 20′s at the top of his game while you’re in your 30′s and then being shocked he isn’t ready to settle down, and I always wondered why shed been single for so long but now it all makes since. And how can you request a Christian man but on the same list want a big dick? That doesn’t make sense but maybe that’s just me.
As far as Brandy and Ray J, I can respect Ray J because he’s always had his hustle on since he was a little boy but at the same time he’s a grown man still acting like a little boy. Brandy needs to stop playing around and put out an album. Get in the studio, get a good producer and writer and get to work. If the label isn’t willing to market her then she needs to get her hustle on and get out there and market herself. If they won’t give her the greenlight to put a new album out well she’s got enough money to do it herself, release a mixtape and go independant but sitting back making you tube videos, random cameos at concerts and reality shows isn’t enough if she’s not putting out music to go along with all the publicity she has right now

I’m confused by the title too. Only one or so out of the 8 (or whatever) women are actually still married and only two or 3 ever were married to a baskeball player. I liked Chilli’s show, she has always seemed really nice and fun (not dating someone who likes pork is weird though). Christian the one guy she went on the date was cute. I didn’t see much of Brandy/Ray J show except the dad complaining about how the mom is so into the kids business that she doesn’t have much time for him.

Have you ever been to spring break? I went to Cancun durning Memorial weekend and what Royce did was nothing compared to what chicks do in these type of situations. She wasn’t in a club she was on a beach, in a dance contest, which is why she did what she did. She was doing something to create shock value that would make her stand out and win.
@Iscream no I’ve never been to spring break, but I was in the Navy and had plenty of deployments overseas to see what alcohol/5mos w/o sex/in a country you will never see again will do to people, and I thought they same thing about those girls and %99.9 of the time they were the squadron/ship hoes putting it out there they were available.
I’ve been at the club booty popping (back that ass up was my shyt) but while I was dancing I didn’t pull my pants down or let other men/women touch me, I felt that would be taking it too far, and Royce is 29 most spring breakers are 20-24yrs old.

I couldn’t believe how those slightly reformed hoochies had the nerve to sit Royce down and scold her because she was making them look bad. I’d heard of Royce even before the rump shaking display. I don’t know any of those broads nor was their name brought up when that video went viral. Hell, I still don’t remember any of them. Royce is definitely my favorite.
What I like most about this show is that it shows current hoochies their future if they are lucky enough actually get a long term relationship or at least a baby out of these professional athletes. If they like you for your looks they will be through with you when they are gone in all of 10 years. All of the ladies over 30 look like they used to be really cute back in the day.
