Rumor Control: Monica Denies Keyshia Cole Rumor
Yesterday, celebrity blogger Miss Jia ran this item on her blog from a messy chick who supposedly knows a nurse at the Cleveland hospital where Keyshia Cole delivered her son.
Hello Miss Jia,
I love your site! Keep up the Excellent work! I am sending you this email because I have a question regarding a comment made by Keyshia Cole during her labor and delivery here in Cleveland, Ohio. Apparently she asked the hospital staff that no Black people be allowed to care for her or her baby during her stay at the hospital. A good friend of mines who works at the hospital stated that she apparently felt that Black people would take photos of her and/or her child so she specifically requested that Blacks not care for her.
Me being a nurse, I know that a request like that would not have been honored since hospital policy prohibits discrimination against patients or their staff based on race.
But just to be sure, I reached out to Keyshia’s BFF, R&B Diva Monica, to inquire if this was true. Here is Mo’s response via text message:
Oh…gosh…that sounds like some made up mess…she NEVER said anything like that to me and we were in constant communication while she was in labor. That story sounds soooooooo made up. Lol. I have NEVER heard her say anything like that.

Sandra, I beg to differ with regard to hospital policy. When my teenage daughter gave birth to my granddaughter, I told them that I did not want nurses from a certain nationality assigned to my daughter, because I found them to be EXTREMELY rude and condescending to her throughout her ordeal. They acknowledged my request and even sent the hospital Administrator to my daughter’s room to take my complaint and apology. She personally made sure that my request was enforced and I didn’t have any problems after that.
With the right amount of money you can request anything or anyone you want…I wouldn’t put it pass Keyshia Cole tho

none of this really matters. info and pics have leaked from hospitals before. hipaa really cleaned it up but this doesn’t sound far-fetched or raciss. white folks aint checking for her but some black staff person trying to come-up, i could see it happening. however, i just don’t think it would be worth the $50 the pic would fetch.

I was in constant communication with my Moms during my 53 and 1/2 hours of labor via phone and text, until the pushing began.
all of a sudden J Records wants to promote Monica’s cd. There are commercials running during Wendy and other shows. WTF?
Okay so I will validate why this seems to be bull ish 1) after she had the baby you mean to tell me that even the nurses in the nursery had to be white??? And everyone who dealt with her and the baby for the 3 day stay were all white??? KeyKey look boo pic of the lil one will be seen regardless you may be better off just getting paid for those photo ops…

Cosidering some poor trash whites with nothing at all would request that some black not touch them, I can see a black singer with a recording contract advance and a NBA boyfriend say the same thing.

Hello All. First of all, I think Keyshia Cole is one of the most talented female singers out there. I’ve never heard her live but recorded, her voice is beautiful and her style fresh. As for her request at the hospital, 50/50 chance it’s true or a variation thereof and like someone said, money talks. I may be wrong, but she seems to give everyone the benefit of the doubt and boy, is that hard, impossible unless you’re born this way. She has a good heart and she’s probably still taking care of her family, which I won’t even comment on except that there are millions and millions of black women just like Keysia’s momma. But you won’t find them on this board. There’s class up in this camp, and the humor, dead bodies lying all over the place, from laughting. I so truly enjoy the humor here. Peaceeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee.
@Free, HIPAA is not a powerful enough law to stop some of these hospital employees from releasing info. Hell at least once a month there is a story on someone elses info being leaked. Its a huge deal and the hospitals are being sued. Even with Octomom and the press from that. These tabloids are paying thousands for info on certain people and even if the star isn’t huge now they will still pay on the chance that the person may blow up. I have zero respect for the paparazzi and tabloid industry after living out here. They swarm the schools where the stars kids live, constantly causing accidents chasing folks, making it a hassle if you’re in a store and a celeb shows up. You have to see it to fully believe how crazy it is. And these hospital personnel don’t give a crap about HIPAA because depending on the celeb they will be paid enough to make up for the job they’re losing at least short term. Cedars Sinai had to install a computer system with different classifications and only those with a definite need to know has clearance to access the records of certain patients but even still that stuff gets leaked. I mean they even leaked photos of MJ dead on the stretcher. But how is she gonna request no black attendants in Cleveland of all places?

I say all that because prior to losing my job this year I worked in the medical industry for years in CA where most of the big leaks take place. The tabloids have people at every major hospital, in the police departments, coroners office everywhere and those people are making good money to where they could care less about losing their job til it happens and depending on the type of leak its hard to immediately pinpoint the source
I think she made the request, maybe not in those exact words, but you know what’s up. She did not want any messy black folks patronizing her or her baby!

I’m not html savvy, so i have to copy and paste. Please Sandra. If you make a specific requests to your Dr, they’ll honor it. are they supposed to –is what you’re speaking of. if a high profile person asks for something specific, they’re going to get it. People, it’s high time yall face that rules are for common people still in the 5 figure, low six (barely over 100k) brackets. That stuff is written on paper and SR knows it. It means nothing when you’re dealing person to person. What I’m supposed to do and will do are two different things.

I believe she said it. folks know somebody would take pictures of the baby and try to get a few dollars from it. Some White folks wouldnt know or care about who she is.. But some blacks might. I think its true. Maybe not worded that specifically but I can see her asking to be made aware of ANYONE at the hospital that may have contact with her child. And if she doesnt approve of them she has ever right to request ceratin people or to leave the hospital.
If Monica did hear her say it would she really tell you? If that’s really her friend, probably not as it is a very unflattering comment to have attached to you!
