Crime: Married Memphis Cop On Trial for Killing His Girlfriend
Officer Chancy Jones was married with children when he met 31-year-old Phyllis Malone and began a torrid love affair with her.
Weeks later, officer Jones realized he had a lot to lose and nothing to gain in the relationship. So he made the decision to end the affair. That’s when Malone told him she was pregnant and she needed money for the baby.
Around 6:00am on Sept. 9, 2008, just before the start of his shift, officer Jones approached Malone as she sat in her car outside a Shell gas station. The two began arguing loudly. According to Jones, in a 5 page signed statement, she threatened to tell his wife about their two-month affair if he did not give her the money.
“She became irate, cursing, threatening and blackmailing saying that she was going to tell my wife and take me to child support and I had to pay the white man at Juvenile Court,” Jones said in the statement. “I talked to her and she calmed down and she wanted a hug or what not. After that, the conversation picked back up. She asked me the same question again and I told her I would think about it. Then she said ‘Well, I’ll just go and tell the wife’ and said all I was gonna pay for. She said ‘You’ll pay in the long run.’…[link]
Jones, 39, pleaded with Malone to get an abortion. But she refused. “She cursed and said hell no she wasn’t gonna do that,” said Jones. “She was going to… come to my house. I asked her not to do it. She said ‘Bye, Chancy.’ That’s when I pulled out a pistol and I shot her.”
Malone’s body was found by a delivery driver who saw her slumped over in the front seat of her car. By that time, Jones had already reported for shift duty. He was arrested the following day and charged with second-degree murder.
For the past two years, Jones has been out on bond, living with his wife and children — an arrangement that outraged Malone’s family who thought he should have been locked up.
“He killed our sister for nothing. That’s what he did, and they are trying to protect him ’cause he is a police officer. That ain’t right. It’s not right. He’s a cold blooded murderer. He was suppose to get capital murder. He should have gotten capital murder,” said Malone’s angry siblings. [link]
The medical examiner’s report showed Malone died of gunshot wounds to the right temple, the right side and the right chest area. Malone was not pregnant and, according to her sisters, had had her tubes tied.

Wow…She lost her life over a lie. I wish both men/women would take adultery seriously. Had he not been cheating on his wife he wouldn’t have had to worry about some woman falling in love with him and refusing to end the affair with lies and had she not been sleeping with a married man she wouldn’t have been (undeservingly)killed in rage by a man too scared his wife would find out about her.
However, I am OUTRAGED that this man has been out on bond for murder for the last 2 years
living life like it’s gravy

I feel what you’re saying. A very close family member murdered his girlfriend due to her causing all types of drama that you wouldn’t believe. It hurt that he did it, and shocked all of us, but I kinda do understand what drove him to do it.
What he did was terrible! This is why when married folks approach you looking for a relationship, you ignore them & keep it moving. 9 times outta 10, their family is more important than you, and they would risk anything to stop them from finding out that you exist.

Ok, ok…I have to say this and I normally do not insert other topics in a specific thread; however, I see that a few folks agreed that women should “leave married men alone”. Did this not apply to Alicia Keys as well? I’m just sayin’….morality does not only apply to us regular folks – it applies to celebs as well. In every Swizz and Alicia Keys thread, there are tons of people upholding and supporting what she and Swizz did, but I don’t see the difference here – married is married.
There isn’t any evidence that proves what he’s saying is true. He could just but using that excuse of her telling him she’s pregnant to justify killing her. Everything is according to him we will never hear her side.
