Charice Pempengco, 18, Gets Skin Lightened and Botox for ‘Glee’ Role

Remember little Charice Pempengco, the Filipino girl who thrilled American audiences with her superb voice when she appeared on Ellen Degeneres and Oprah? Well, that little girl is 18 now and she is set to make her debut on the wildly popular TV show ‘Glee’.

Now that Charice has become Americanized, she has fallen victim to the music industry’s stereotypical image standard for young, female singers.

According to online reports, Charice, at the tender age of 18, underwent plastic surgery to reshape her face. She also got her skin lightened and botox treatments — all in an effort to “look fresh on camera.”

Wow. If Charice thinks she looks old and decrepit at 18, I wonder what she’s going to think when she’s 35? What sort of message does this send to other teenage girls?

The 18-year-old Charice, whose singing career rocketed after appearing on Ellen DeGeneres’ and Oprah Winfrey’s talk shows, underwent a 30-minute Thermage skin-tightening procedure and Botox to make her “naturally round face” more narrow, celebrity cosmetic surgeon Vicki Belo told ABS-CBN television.

Charice, in the same interview, said last week’s face makeover was part of her big preparations for her appearance on the hit show’s second season. She starts filming at the end of this month. Read More…

Sorry Sandra, I don’t see the skin lightening. I see a tan and/or dark lighting in the second pic vs the first where she’s in bright light and obviously has on make up. Face narrowing, don’t see that either.

Never heard of her before, but I dont see where her face is more “narrow” either Nor do I agree that she should have undergone any kind of surgery. But to each its own. H3ll, if I had someone willing to pay for it, I’d have a few things tweeked as well

@ardent, so true about the skin whitening. When I worked in Korea those ladies were spending tons of money on creams and procedures to whiten their skin.

It’s sad when an 18 year old feels the need to alter her image and natural beauty to fit the Hollywood mold. Auntie Oprah needs to call her on this one.

Society, as a whole, is extremely confused. YT people want to be darker (tanning) and black people want to be lighter (skin lightening)! Just be glad with what you have and rock it…everyone doesn’t see beauty in the same things so why try to fit a mold?

I watched an episode of Jessica Simpson show the price of beauty and the Asian women wanted lighter skin. They believe if you have darker the skin the less money you make. Something about working outside verses working inside

Further examination of the picture it appears as if she had her eyes done to make them appear bigger and less “chinky”. That type of surgery is all the rage with Asian people

The only thing different to me is her eyes. They look bigger. The lighting on the second picture isnt as bright as on the first.

The difference is that in Asian countries it’s not considered a problem. It’s more a fact that lighter skin is more beautiful. The closer to white the better. If she has indeed made her skin lighter I’m sure she has no problem to admit that because she comes from a culture where it’s accepted.

In Asian countries, lighter skin is valued because of ancient traditions. If you were darker skinned that meant you worked in the fields and were a peasant. But if you had a light skin that meant that you were of the upper class.

People in all cultures have issues with skin color, sadly.
