Did Jay Z & Beyonce Boycott BET Awards Because of Chris Brown?
The staff over at the HipHopblog.com wrote an interesting post questioning whether rap mogul Jay Z, his wife Beyonce and singer Rihanna all boycotted the 2010 BET Awards because they knew in advance that Chris Brown, would be performing a MJ Tribute on the show.
That’s a lot of star power to piss off just so BET could score ratings with Brown’s staged PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE act.
Not only did BET’s brass allow CB to perform his dance tribute, but they also set aside about two minutes and 25 seconds of valuable air time to give him the chance to publicly flog himself.
By doing this, BET allowed their now stellar awards show to be used as a self-serving propaganda vehicle for Brown, who was not allowed to perform last year because Jay Z and Beyonce were in attendance.
In the year and a half since the now infamous beating incident, Brown has not shown one iota of remorse for what he did to Rihanna.
All of this makes me wonder what will BET do next year to win Jay Z and Beyonce back?

USA Today has an article about a snitch claiming Chris Brown using eye drops before his performance. This is yet another scandal in the making. Using Michael Jackson’s memory for his own personal gain.
I didn’t miss Camel and Bey….I think they didn’t come cause they knew they weren’t gonna win shyt…

Unless they have MAJOR ownership in BET/Viacom, who gives a flip? She should not have been nominated for ANY awards this year from a 2 year old album.
Well, if it’s true, that’s Jay’s choice. @ Lawgirl, I just dont think the tears were from remorse over rih (if they were real). More so a front or being overwhelmed @ being able to perform again.

Last year when Chris didn’t perform people tried to blame that on Jay and Bey. Jay already said he didn’t and basically said he can let Chris be great. I wish others would…..

I mean Jay doesn’t make it a secret that he can’t stand CB and you know Bey will follow his lead but this might be to the extreme. It wouldn’t shocked me if it was true tho. So they wouldn’t show up to the Grammy’s if CB did? Thats crazy and they need to get over it if this truly was the case. I mean it is what it is. But I did miss Bey’s performance this yr I’m not even gonna lie. Who cares about Jay!

That eye drop story is mullarky damn I guess people are gulliable. No one missed them at all and to be honest that was one of the major highlights of the show.

I was soooooo disappointed in BETS honoring of prince…they didnt even do any of the good songs, except purple rain (which i die for) but Janelle Monet? really? ok…
I believe BET would choose Chris Brown over Jay, Beyonce, and RIhanna because people were up in arms last year about Chris not performing for MJ Tribute… BET got alot of emails and flack for not having Brown perform. Being that the awards marked 1 year of MJ’s death, I feel BET sacrificed the heavy hitters to appease people.

Prince picked every performer for his tribute thats how it goes when you are honored. I am use to Janelle Monae so I figured thats how it would be.

Rhianna and Jay were nominated and didn’t show up. It’s so obvious the reason why they didn’t come and it’s funny they thought in their minds the award show wouldn’t be good without them there. Proved wrong.

Stephen Hill: They missed the awards, because…we have this conversation almost every year. And, some years we are really fortunate when Jay-Z and Beyonce are in the house and other times, they go on vacation. But I can absolutely say without reservation that there was no conversation at all around, “If Chris Brown’s coming, I’m not coming.” That’s just false.
I didn’t miss them. I hope they skip all of the upcoming award shows.
