Group asks media to suppress talk of Obama’s “religious identity”

According to online reports, there’s an email making the rounds as part of a “major liberal initiative to curtail discussion of President Obama’s religious identity.”

As ridiculous as that sounds, I’m not surprised. How many past presidents has ever had his religious faith called into question based on his own actions? You guessed it: only one.

Last month, a survey of American voters found that roughly 25% of the country believe Barack Obama is a Muslim.

Now a group of “over 70 Christian leaders and denominational heads” have banded together to ask the “major media” outlets to suppress any discussion of Obama’s religion. By ‘major media’ outlets I’m assuming they mean CNN, ABC News, MSNBC, etc. You know, the left leaning media that rarely utters a negative word about Obama anyway.

Here’s an excerpt from the email:

[W]e are deeply troubled by the recent questioning of President Obama’s faith…. [T]he personal faith of our leaders should not be up for public debate…. Therefore, we urge public officials, faith leaders, and the media to offer no further support or airtime to those who misrepresent and call into question the president’s Christian faith.

I wonder if this group of religious leaders sent this same email to Obama himself? No one would be questioning Obama’s faith if it weren’t for his own questionable behavior since taking office last January.

Maybe if Obama would stop bowing down to Muslim leaders, or maybe if Obama would stop protecting Muslim terrorists, or just maybe if Obama stopped making statements such as the U.S. is a Muslim country — Americans would have no reason to question his faith.

Well I say that Obama put himself in the lime light and should be expected to be rediculed. Not saying that I think its right. But same goes for Brian White (whatever dudes name was)… Everybody was saying “When your a “celebrity” you should expect people to criticize you”… same thing goes for our dear president. And since he’s black, folks are just trying HARDER to find MORE reasons to hate him.

@ FLO that’s the funny part as much racial slurs with media heads that has been said up until last week with the picking cotton statement on a national network Obama stays in stride. He know it’s going to be said its the “adults” that act/say things like children is where the major issues lie.

American has one of the largest Muslim populations in the world, so his comment it being a Muslim country does not upset me.

There are more problems in America right now like illegal immigration, unemployment, an abysmal education system, and broken families. I don’t care who Obama prays to at night as long as he respects my religous freedom as well.

Because, Sandra, freedom of and from religion is a foundation of America.

PS-If McCain had won this would not be an issue.

So let me get this straight Sandra, you don’t think him being black has anything to do with this? You don’t think him being a democrat has anything to do with this? Anytime something doesn’t go the way people plan (such as the election that republicans and racist americans thought was going to be handed over to McCain since there’s no way that America would elect a Black president *sarcasm* :rollseye: ) people are going to be upset and do whatever it takes to discredit this man. With that said ALL presidents go under harsh scrutiny for frivolous issues that have NOTHING to do with them running the country. He’s not the first and certainly won’t be the last to! People are going to throw anything out there until they find something that foolish idiots will let stick such as his issue of religion. Obama has uttered the words FROM HIS OWN DAM.N MOUTH that he is a CHRISTAIN. So where’s exactly is the doubt and uncertainty? If he was Muslim why would he denounce the fact that he is??? He’s a Christain but he is the president OF ALL AMERICANS and ALL AMERICANS AREN’T CHRISTAIN.

You must be on the brink of breaking some hot new gossip bout somebody, yea?

The President is a married man, Sandy. You can’t keep expressing your love for him like this. Michelle is from Chicago and she will not take kindly to you being all up on her man like this.

I still don’t understand why his faith is even an issue or what it has to do with how he runs the country. :shrugs:
