New Music: Rihanna – Only Girl in the World
Rihanna’s new single “Only Girl in the World” just premiered today and it is hawt! I’m not just saying that because Rihanna is my girl or because I’m expecting a very special gift in the mail any day now — I am REALLY feeling this track.
RiRi sounds like she has overcome her vocal flaws and she’s found her proper vocal range. She sounds so powerful on this track! What do you kids think?
According to Rihanna Daily, The song was produced by Stargate, the Grammy-winning Norwegian producing team who previously produced Rihanna’s smash hits “Please Don’t Stop the Music” and “Hate That I Love You.”
An iTunes arrival date for the single is yet to be confirmed, but the album is “Loud!” and is slated to be released sometime in November.

fanMAIL: Did Rihanna disrespect the Navy uniform?

Hi Ms. Sandra,
I’m a little taken back over the Rihanna photo. I understand it is a film and not real, but she is wearing a military uniform. The Navy to be exact. Being a military personel myself and dealing with a loved one laying in a hospital bed in Afghanistan is painful and more. Her wearing that uniform and grabbing her crotch while throwing up her middle finger is rude. I know some may argue she’s doing it to the annoying pap and just kidding, ect. At the end of the day, she has our uniform on and is being highly disrecpectful to our men and woman who are and have fought in it. Some service men and women died in their uniform for freedom and seeing this shows me that one must be careful in any shape or form to respect those who have given up their freedom for yours.

Hi Sandra,
I am a loyal reader of the site and wanted to give you props for not backing down and being who you are and reporting whats real. I do have a more specific issue though, Rihanna and her behavior in a U.S. Navy uniform. I’m sure she couldn’t begin to understand the commitment it takes to earn the right to wear that uniform so I’ll give her a pass. As a black female NAVY veteran honorably discharged it’s disrespectful to see someone taking my uniform as a joke or just regular clothing. If she wants to expand her career and get into acting that’s a great thing, but be mindful and respectful when your in a strangers back yard. I would hope that as she finishes this film she would learn to treat that uniform and the people who have earned the right to wear it with a greater amount of respect and maturity.

Barack Obama: “They talk about me like a dog”
What is Barack Obama’s preoccupation with dogs?
When he ran for president he referred to himself as a mutt. Recently, during a guest appearance on the partisan TV talk show, The View, he referred to black people as mongrels. And during a speech in Wisconsin over the weekend, Obama complained that special interest groups in Washington weren’t happy with him. “They talk about me like a dog,” he whined.
Obama was quick to mention that his whining wasn’t a part of the prepared speech (I’m sure his speech preparer cringed when he heard that). It probably didn’t matter to Obama that whining is not a part of his job description either. But, like a true narcissist, everything has to be about him.
Someone should explain to Obama that presidents don’t whine or complain or try to pass the buck the way he;s been doing for the past 2 years.

Atlanta Black Gay Pride 2010: Nicki Minaj, Ciara, Amber Rose, Jazmine Sullivan
The walking, talking blow up doll that is Nicki Minaj breezed into Atlanta this past weekend, hit 4 nightclubs and blew town on Sunday with about $100,000 in appearance fees. Yes, she found promoters dumb enough to pay her that much loot to basically lip sync and make weird sounds with her mouth all night long. Nicki has managed to con an entire industry into believing she is the future of Hip Hop. her debut album, titled Pink Friday, drops on Nov. 23.

Atlanta Black Gay Pride 2010: Fantasia and Kelly Rowland
Former American Idol winner Fantasia and former Destiny’s Child singer Kelly Rowland entertained the Girls in the Night lesbuns at Compound on Friday night to officially kick off the Black Gay Pride weekend parties in Atlanta. There were so many Gay and lesbun parties it was hard to keep up!

Medical Minute: Preeclampsia (Swelling During Pregnancy)
A diagnosis of preeclampsia is made if the pregnant woman has high blood pressure or hypertension (blood pressure higher than 140/90), and she is spilling protein (from her blood) into her urine. Proteinuria is detected with a simple urine dipstick test, or the patient is asked to collect her urine in a container for 24 hours to be tested for protein.
Please don’t quote me as saying that Alicia Keys has preeclampsia. I am simply using these photos of Alicia to illustrate what a patient with preeclampsia might look like. Notice the heavy swelling in her legs and ankles (which she cleverly hides with her sandal/booties)? She’s awfully huge for a woman who isn’t carrying triplets.
The diagnosis is made whether the patient has edema (swelling with accumulation of fluid) of the hands, face and eyes, or just edema of the legs and feet (lower extremity dependent edema, as in Alicia’s case).
Women who are pregnant for the first time (such as Alicia) are at higher risk for preeclampsia. Other risk factors include:
Diabetes
History of high blood pressure
History of preeclampsia
Multifetal pregnancies
Signs and symptoms of preeclampsia includes edema (swelling of hands, face or eyes, and/or lower extremities), nausea and vomiting, headache, blurred vision, abdominal pain (especially in the right upper abdomen), flank pain (lower back), palpitations, protein in urine, (rapid heart rate) and jaundice. Remember that signs are what you see and symptoms are what you feel.
