Behind the Scenes: Willow Smith’s “Whip My Hair”

Will and Jada Smith get points for choosing Black Entertainment Television for the debut of Willow Smith’s music video for “Whip My Hair”.

PEOPLE has your first look at scenes from 9-year-old Willow Smith’s music video for her infectious first single, “Whip My Hair.” The daughter of Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith filmed the video in Sylmar, Calif., in September with director Ray Kay – who has also helmed clips for Lady Gaga, Justin Bieber and Beyoncé.

In the video, which debuts on BET on Monday, the pint-sized singer – who is signed to Jay-Z’s record label – gets playful with her wardrobe and some paint, and joins guest stars ranging in age from 1 to 85 who, you guessed it, whip their hair back and forth for the cameras.

The nauseatingly annoying track received rave reviews when it was released last month online. But child advocates and parent groups argue that the precocious 9-year-old is too young to be subjected to the pressures of the music industry.

Even if she’s having fun, her parents should know better.

Now as for her being in the industry this young, Will and Jada seem to be very involved parents so I have no problem with this at all, now if they had left her to “handlers” then I would have said something different.

People always have something to say, yeah the entertainment industry leaves much to be desired but what about the people like Raven, Tyra, Malcolm Jamal Warner, Regina King, etc that started young and are still doing well? Just because she is young it doesn’t seal her fate.

Willow will be ok even if her math comprehension doesn’t go beyond addition and subtraction she will still be able to count money. in most regards education is for you to reach a level she was born into and i think her parents have done a good job at keeping her as a grounded child despite the toilet paper being real money in the house.
