Celebrity Seed: Alicia Keys and Hubby Take Baby Egypt to Doctor
According to INFPhoto.com, Alicia Keys and husband Swizz Beatz took their newborn baby Egypt (who was born October 14th) to a Manhattan doctor for his first check-up.

Aside from the fact that the baby will have to struggle under the weight of bearing a girl’s name for the rest of his life, he seems to be healthy.

After handing the baby over to a nanny, the couple spent a romantic evening doing a little window shopping and buying baby clothes in New York City.
I hope the post-pregnancy happiness lasts for Alicia. Egypt is Swizz Beatz’s 3rd child by as many women.

man! look at that beak!
Aww go ahead Alicia! Dropped that baby the other day and running the streets already. I want to see a pic of the baby. Congrats to Alica & Swizzy!
NO SANDRA EGYPT IS BABY #4, SWIZZ HAS CLAIMED HIS DAUGHTER. SO THAT IS 3 SONS, ONE DAUGHTER.
Egypt means Bondage.
Actually he has 4 kids by 4 women, but who’s counting?
SO BABY #4, WITH 4TH BABY MAMA!
She looks great! Now cover that baby up with a bigger blanket!
I think the nanny you may be referring to is Alicia’s mother (white lady in blue top).
I thought we was going to see the baby. I feel duped. Who do I report the gross misrepresentation of this post title to?
Yeap 4 kids, not 3. Im not feeling the name though and for some reason, I dont think this marriage will last…

A 4 day old baby already getting germs in New York. Yes that blanket should be bigger.
I supposed I’m old school, the woman AND the baby should be in the house at least until her 6 week check up. I know it’s been 11 yrs since my last baby but I’m sure that general rule of thumb still applies, no?
OMG MAN….I CANT with you today!
Anyhoo.. Congrats mommy Alicia… It seems her and her mom have a close relationship, I love that for Alicia.

I had to take my last born to the doctor at a week old. It was only across the street from my home, but I still was not ready to really be out and about, let alone expose my kid to germs so soon. LOL.
DAMMIT, I COULD GO TO YOU TUBE YESTERDAY BUT THEY BLOCKED IT TODAY!!!!
DAMN GUBMENT! WELL I ENJOYED MY ONE DAY OF BEING ABLE TO WATCH VIDEOS!
@brown that happened to me. one day i was jammin and slow grindin in my chair to songs on pandora…then the next day bam! the web content was denied
My mama would have my a** if I was out that early after giving birth. Better yet she’d have my a** for having the baby out so early. WOW is all I can say.
Maybe it’s a southern thing or and ‘ole school thing but that’s frowned on where I come from.
Congrats to the happy couple, I love me some A. Keys..
Never heard of the 6 week rule and I have 2 boys, a bigger blanket could help though its cold in NYC…
Morning to you too Brown! Yeah, that other post was something else, huh? Now,if I can just get my computer to move a tad bit faster…

Damnit, Sandra Mae!
What’s REALLY goin’ on? You back to seeing patients and haven’t told us? You have really been lacking on stories over the past two weeks.
I hate these “picture” posts – I don’t really get entertained by those other websites and I look forward to your ish talkin’ and “baiting” – it makes the day go by faster.
I hate coming back 10 times throughout the day and… (insert sound of wind and visual of tumbleweeds here).
Like my baby used to say when I used to make him watch cartoons and he wanted to watch what the grown folk were watchin, “dis borin!”
You arent wrong @Yvonne, however newborns typically have a 1 week check up. But my lil one didnt go too much of anywhere until he was about a month or so old.
@Sandra
why is Monica defending herself against some supposed lies that haven’t even come out yet????? Is she feeling guilty of something?

It’s frowned on in the land of “motherhood”. It’s a
A baby has a 2 day then 2 week appt before they go on that 1st year schedule.
I think that’s AK mother and not a nanny BUT I don’t know about the rest of yall mothers but I was at the doctor and HOME with my baby when they were small. Didn’t want to be away from them for a second.
Also at that young my cooch was still wide open and didn’t need no air…my grandma said stay in the house for 6 weeks after giving birth or you’ll have a set back. What big ma says goes back in the old days…lol
After reading the other comments I guess that is just an ‘ole school rule then. It still doesn’t seem right. I wish y’all could see my face frowned up over here.
@Anna/Jazzyiest: Glad to see it’s just not me. My mother and kids’ father watched me like a hawk after I gave birth! If I wasn’t scheduled to go to the doctor for a checkup, you can forget about going outside. The only sun you will see was through the window..
Candi, they banned it for a while then had it open again testerday and now it’s banned again!
@ CANDI… GIRL DO YA THANG I LOVE IT… AND Im good …Im gonna fly above today *wobbles away like Kandi
Yes the baby gets a regular check-up at about a week. You might take the baby back earlier if it is not eating or pooping.
I got that from my grandma who was a baby nurse over 15 years ago. I say to show you that this is very standard practice and has been for a really long time.
The blanket is fine. Usually celebs are going from the car to the door. No need to overheat the little baby or smother it in blankets. Look at what the adults are wearing. It’s not that cold.
Also at that young my cooch was still wide open and didn’t need no air

OKAY!!!! See, I know I’m not crazy. My mama would kill me out in dirty a** NY shopping and yes that monkey is wide open after that and you’re still all juicy and thangs (sorry to be so graphic)! I don’t even think I’d want to be out like that.
I’m not judging ‘ole A. Keys but it just seems a tad bit off to me *face is still frowned up*

I know a man named Shannon, and a woman named Barrie. I don’t find Egypt to be a specific gender name.
YES SAN this is is 4TH child. He as a daughter to woman from london i believe. Who was concieved <-:( during his marriage to Mashonda. His daughter looks just like HIM 2. So swiss is a father of 4.
This is all Alleged though. So of course San is right. Until swiss claims the girl.
i don’t have kids so i’m going to talk about totally unrelated subjects
@brown i can’t do anything fun on this computer
can’t see gravies, go on FB, twitter, see any videos, play solitaire. it’s like they want me to focus on working or something!
good thing i have my phone, headphones and charger!
@ Comment #18 …newborns often return to the doctor for their first check up within a week of their birth. Most babies lose weight in the first few days, so the check up is to ensure that the newborns at least weigh their “birth weight”. Birth weight is the weight they were when they were born.
That’s how it was for my two daughters after they were born; first check up within their first week.
In regard to the post; where is the baby’s stroller? Most infant carriers are equipped with a stroller; “Travel System” as it is called where the carrier fits inside of the stroller. I personally think that babies are more secure in the travel system and that the travels system is much easier to handle.
Anywhoo… Congrats to Alicia and Swizzy for a healthy baby!
I don’t think he will struggle with his name. He will probably go by a nickname when he’s older.
Hey they say 3rd times a charm! Too bad this is his 4th!
H3ll, I didnt even feel like shopping just 4 days after giving birth. Matter of fact, I wasnt even released from the hospital til the 3rd day
@ Yvonne
Hahahahaha! See, that’s just what I’m use to but to each his own.
Hello All. God bless our children, rich or poor, black or white. That said, a WashPost article today states that poor children in DC that qualify under the poverty act, at some schools will get 3 meals a day, including dinner. It also states that 43% of children in DC, which means black kids, live in poverty. It also states that the same % are obese. This just doesn’t make sense to me. How can our children be so fat and hungry at the same time? Ever see kids in Sudan, who also live in poverty(stark), they are literally skin and bones, not obese. I’m just saying.
excuse the graphic material…but isn’t she still bleeding??? Why is she out to dinner less than a week after giving birth?? that’s worse than the hoodrats that be in the club the weekend after they give birth.
excuse me…almost worse*

@PAHairston
I watched the Oprah episode about all of this. Did you see the documentary Waiting on Superman? It talks all about the poverty and educational system in DC and abroad. It’s really an eye opener and a tear jerker if you’re a big baby like me.
My baby was born in the summer, and we were definitely in the house, unless we really HAD to go out.

@ PA
I think it’s more about what they’re eating as opposed to how much. Plus most kids these days don’t get regular exercise so all the junk food just accumulates. At least that’s my guess.
@brown i don’t even care!

Hello all ..
Congrats to the couple, no comment on the infant’s name.
@Danielle – I want to see the pics too @ danielle.
@yvonne – Its a 1 week checkup after the child’s birth, but maybe they decided to go early. For the mom its 6 weeks as I can recall, unless you have some issue surface as far as I remember but that was 3 years ago.
Maybe she just wanted to get out sooner. Celebs tend to do things different anyway.
thanks Flo!
@Outsidethebox
Not judging just wondering what was up. I don’t have kids so I can’t call it. Some of the other commenters even said that what she’s doing is the norm as far as taking the baby to the doctor.
HOWEVER, I guess I’m from the ‘ole school b/c I seriously remember my mama not taking my baby brother out for at least a month and she didn’t move either. I was just told that was how it was done. That the baby was suceptible to illness and your cooch was to wide open and that you’d get pneumonia in the a** (not really pneumonia in the a**…I just like saying that LOL).
But like I said…to each his own.
*does the cabbage patch, freezes, then does the wop* what up Ohoney!
Damn…a checkup already? Anyway I was always told that mother should be with the child atleast six weeks before evn thinking about going out in public.Gotta keep baby away from Germs! Wow Alicia, handing the baby to a nanny after giving birth last Thursday? Girl, keep your butt in the house and take care of your child.
Hi.
No kids here.
However- in my family- unless going to the doctor’s, the rule is always: mom & baby in-house for AT LEAST a month.
Ewww. Her vagina was probably damn near mowing the sidewalk as she was walking down the street shopping.
Anyway- Kaseem is already recruiting for babymama #5. Any takers?
@ PA the kids are fat because they are eating food laden in hormone’s and bad fat. They probably get plenty of juice, cheese curls and oodle’s of noodles at home….
@ OHoney
Kids exercising??? WHy did I just picture a little one on an elliptical machine alongside their mama?
I don’t remember being that active as a kid neither were my siblings. Could it be genetics?
#89 @sassy you went too far. That’s how I feel though. Mine is 8 and we didnt move until we went to the Dr and then it was Str8 back to the house and please believe when people came to see him, I was like, please get out his face!

No, not at all. Giving birth is a tramatic experience for any woman’s body therefore time is needed for your body to heal. It’s a little different to see her out and about mainly because the support system I had, didn’t allow me to return to a sense of normalcy until after my six week checkup. Not sure if it’s just a wives tale but to each it’s own….
wish i could afford that baby bag. It’s so nice to be rich.
Hey Kezi (still getting used to this name) and Iyonah!
I was up and about making short shopping trips a week after my csections so she should be able to after normal delivery. I agree that there should be a blanket over that carrier though. I kept mine in a snugli on my chest with a blanket and would cuss anybody out who tried to breathe on us but there was no way I could drop everything and stay in the house for weeks just cause I had a baby

Yeah my hubby, mother, adopted mother took care of me and baby, in fact because my hubby worked so much I moved back in with my adoptive family for a couple of weeks. I had breakfast, lunch and dinner made for me. But unfortunately everybody doesn’t have that type of support system.
@yvonne
You can still call me kc I’ll know who you’re talking about unless it’s a keyshia cole post Lol

Please say that again. You would think as the litteracy rate increases, some practices will just disappear altogether, but nooo, it’s the opposite. I had to litterally make a fool of my sister when she wanted to name her daughter Kaydhence(or something similar, can’t even remember her spelling now). She finally opted for a more traditional spelling, still with a K though. Give a kid a break… she doesn’t deserve to be spelling her name everytime she speaks it. Please keep it simple for the sake of our beloved kids.
Perhaps there is a difference in recovery time when the woman gives a vaginal birth vs a C-section. From what I see, those who had a C-section were out and about sooner than those who had the standard vaginal birth. I could be wrong. Let’s ask Sandra, she isa nurse.
Thanks yvonne! I get your point.

Kids are obese because of processed/fast food. It’s cheaper for a parent to buy something from the dollar menu vs something healthy. Kids have too many gadgets, video games, cable, DVDs. In my day we woke up left the house played sports all day and went home when the street lights came on.
I had 2 of my kids by vbac @Yvonne. Same thing though. I was back to my life. There were other kis (and myself) to tend to.
AKeys is taking this baby to the dr. I got nothing for this. I was just surprised to hear ppl still believe that old wives tale.

Its great to be an American. For sure. We have no clue.
@kezi/kc: Breakfast, lunch AND dinner prepared? Man, that was the life. You were truly blessed!! My support system wasn’t down for me like that. You wanna eat? Thirsty? You better waddle your ass to the kitchen!
I’m glad my momma and daddy gave me a regular name without all the dramatics like some people I know. Its hard enough being black in America but when you give a child a “unique” name it makes it hard for people to take them seriously especially in Corporate America. If you have a ghetto name, they will already have their pre-judgements of you and think you’re just another black man/woman out of the ghetto

Yes! For my first and second. It was great I got spoiled and was mad I had to go back home lol. A lot of muslims from other countries do this as well. They usually have the support of the mother-in-law, mother, and grandparents. I was blessed with Safi my adoptive mother cooked extra meals for me and brought them over. I got too many kids to be fitting into their four bedroom, my sister is still there with her son
I was mad, I wanted to be waited on again
I don’t plan on having any more but if I did I think I would get the “waddle your dumb arse to the kitchen” treatment again. Every few months everyone ask me if I’ve had any morning sickness lately smh all up in my Uterus

From what I remember you have a total of five children, worked and was in school too so I definitely understand your logic that there wasn’t any time to rest. I commend you for getting on with the business of life so soon after you gave birth. My two children are eighteen months apart so I can only imagine how busy your household was……again, hats off to you!
@chacha hey giirrll not up to chit at all
bored ready to go home :/
In reference to “Baby Egypts” name being a females name.. Last I checked Egypt wasn’t male or female thus anyone being named after it should’nt matter….
Secondly, when did Alicia and Swizz play by the rules of society..it looks like they don’t care what anyone thinks…..
On another note: I respect the fact that celebrities want to be closer to their fans and appear “real”..However, as a civilian I don’t want folks in my biz, and even if they think they know something it isn’t your biz for me to confirm or deny..nosey folks can #Killthemselves…..

“……again, hats off to you!”
That means a lot to me, Yvonne. Thank you!
@ SummerSweetie.. you’re welcome!
My youngest is 3 and the oldest is 6; it was the same for each of them.
In regard to how soon mothers go out after giving birth… I say to each it’s own; however, other than to the doctor, brief trip(s) to the store (1-2).. I was inside with my child. I believe the six week rule comes into effect that it is six weeks until the mom has her check up and she is cleared by her doctor to resume normal activies.
Most believe that babies should be in at least the first month of life before being around the general public. The reason for this is that the child’s immune system has a chance to build where it’s able to become reistant to common germs. Also, not to be graphic or anything, but little girls should stay inside of the house (other than medical appointments) until their discharge ceases. I did not know about this until I had my first daughter. Of course this was all passed down to me through my mother, grandmother, & great grandmother ( Rest Her Beautiful Soul).
@jazi – it’s not judging, we were just telling what the norm is in our world and most of the ladies on here seems to concur.
I don’t give a damn, she can go ride a bike, jet ski, bunji jump the day she got out if she wanted to.
Okay @Anna. I think you missed my point though.
I thought your first check up was your 2 week check up? That’s when I had mine and found out I had to get open heart surgery. I guess different strokes for different folks.
“I believe the six week rule comes into effect that it is six weeks until the mom has her check up and she is cleared by her doctor to resume normal activies.”
This is what I know to be true from my family ob-gyn. Normal activities being strenous activities, lifting older children, exercising, sex
but as far as like couped up because your body wont make it
I have just always been told that its not true by medical professionals.
But yes, I agree my grandmom, mom, aunts…all said stay inside.

I almost cringe when I come across some of the kid’s names at my job or in my daughter’s class.
When I had children I made it a point to not name them anything they would be embarassed to answer to. Whether it was a “Ghetto” name or a name that was old fashioned; like my first name. …shhhhh!!!
As far as Alicia naming her son Egypt; that would not have been my choice for a son..or a daughter for that fact. But hey, it could have been worse!!

Imma get rid of her today. Ms. NY is just too much for this family blog and all but I just had to embrace the perceived negatives about myself.

@ OTB.. I see what you’re saying about being couped up vs strenous activity. I myself was welcoming that little period of rest and not having to hustle and bustle!! With my first child I had my then husband with me the first few days, then my mom for the first week. After that it was me and baby until the evenings.
I must say that after my body felt stronger I went to maybe a run or two to the store (not a literal “run”, but a quick trip)..LOL!
My cousin and his girlfriend recently had a son.. approximately one month ago, and the mom has already returned to work and the baby goes EVERYWHERE!! The problem I have with the baby being out is that two weeks after he was born he had to have surgery, and now he has some sort of respiratory problem.. so them having him out combined with the fact that they smoke IRKS me like none other!
I had the baby for a little while last week and didn’t want to release him to his dad! LOl.. i was like,”I’m afraid to let you go lil’ baby”! Not only do they put the baby in the front seat of thier vehicle (big no-no w/ the air bag), but they don’t even buckle the carrier in! Sure the child is restrained inside of the carrier, but the carrier itself is not buckled to the seat! I made a comment about it and was told..”we’re not going far”… whatever!! Not my child, but i still pray for his safety.
Ok fam… had to vent!!
W/ my first son I was in school taking my sociology final on Tuesday in labor had a c-section on Thursday came home on Sunday and on Wednesday I was on the train heading back to Manhattan to go take my english final.
No six weeks for me and no support at all w/ my second son..

That’s a big
And folks would be gettin cussed out!!!!!
I just lit my Dad’s azz on fire the other day, for having my 4 year old in the front seat. (I lost my baby cousin, this way). And his response was, well the airbag don’t work.
I wanted to put my foot allllll the way in his azz!!!!
Damn, I hit submit, before I was done.
Bottom line, don’t have my baby in the front seat.
“… and now he has some sort of respiratory problem.. so them having him out combined with the fact that they smoke IRKS me like none other!”
Oh no! Now thats just a mess! I def. believe babies should be in but mamas, girls do your thang!
Cupcake did you threathen them with a dfacs call? That worked for my little cousin who used to HOLD her baby in the car while the diaper bag gets the car seat.
“No six weeks for me and no support at all w/ my second son..”
And you didnt die did you? Stronger than before you say?
@kezi whats the point? Imma look like an ass for saying what we all thinking….Lets just agree to ignore each other sweets.
I know I’m late @ Shauny but if you are
because of my comment #9 then I was just asserting my power in this new found democracy of SR.
If you just laughing at me for no reason, well then, I’m going to have to report you to the proper authorities.

I’m glad I work in a field where your level of education, resume and/or CV speaks for you and not your name. If I listed some of my co-workers names most couldn’t begin to pronounce them by looking at them and most aren’t black. I wish I could recall where I read this study that said most African-Americans that are discriminated against because of their names are done so by other AAs working in HR or higher positions. #sad When it’s a person of another race, the name is ‘cultural’ or ‘unique’ but if they are black it’s ‘ghetto’. That needs to stop, imo
@Ohpretty I agree with you 1000%. I am in the medical/scientific field and yeah, my name is the last of the worries on pronounciations.

Actually I was giving you props in owning it and having enough confidence not to care, it’s very mature of you…but please by any means say what you and whomever else you’re referring to is thinking…it wouldn’t bother me one bit
I’m late, but damn, aren’t her lady parts still leaking? She just had that baby!
“…but please by any means say what you and whomever else you’re referring to is thinking…”
Are you a glass half empty type o’gal? #sheesh
Everyone is thinking that this chit is old and tired and you keep breathing life back into it. I thought Muslims loved peace?

This coming from the person who keeps talking about it? Like I said above the wink was me liking the fact that you had confidence enough to turn a negative into a positive. I didn’t think I needed to spell that out but you took it negatively so I guess I did
It’s not that deep with me hun
Old wives and “They” really need to stop filling our heads with incorrect information.
When you are starting a remark with “They say” ask yourself who is “they?” Most of the time they are the folks who will have you sipping kerosene for a cold, cutting off all the lights in a lightning storm, and putting knives under your bed to cut labor pains. That stuff doesn’t work.

I didn’t understand your need to wink at all…as if your validation means something? To me the wink was inflammatory. You’re stoking the fire.
It’s clear you and I have every different view points on things so treat me like that and ignore me. You didn’t want me addressing you and I respected that. Two fold?
My problem is I think everything has meaning. I want to understand too damn much….I’m a bleeding heart liberal with a genuine curiosity for the world and an empathetic heart. I don’t want to e-hate you and it goes against my nature but you make it so tough. And I am aware that doesn’t matter to you; I read very well.
“@kezi whats the point? Imma look like an ass for saying what we all thinking….Lets just agree to ignore each other sweets.”
I asked what your point was? I wasn’t being negative…I’m pointing out to you that you are talking to me. I would think you wouldn’t like that.
@OTB, Hey girl. I see you have taken my place today, thanks.

I don’t have any kids yet but my gma (rip) was a stickler for sitting your azz in the house for 6wks at least after u have a baby.
Do what works for you and yours as always
Okay let me say this again the wink was not to stroke anything, I’ve read a few comments with you talking about what you were called by me and a few others…so I’m not rehashing anything
Instead of turning it into a negative you took it positively kudos, that was grown women of you…
I don’t get where the validation comment came from, we’re anonymous bloggers on a blog…none of us need each others validation…
Finally we do have different opinions but we’ve also agreed on some things as well but I don’t like to do anonymous shade, and I feel that is what you do on here at times. So I addressed it and moved on…
If you want to e-hate me that is fine
I don’t hate anyone least of all people who I don’t know on a blog unless they are racist assholes and even then I feel sorry for them…
As you said we can bypass each other BUT if you say something interesting that I happen to agree with I might cosign you from time to time
And again you can continue trying to e-hate me and ignore that too…
Oh and I’m a very peaceful person, I just like to mess around sometimes…my personality on here is 5% of who I am in real life but again that’s neither here nor there
@ OTB.. no, I didn’t threaten them with a call to child protective services, but i will keep that in mind. This is the mother’s first child but my cousins 5TH!!.. so he should definitely know better!
@AIINYC comment #148 … i beg to differ about Kerosene being the cure all for a cold. Not the sipping part (where they do that at) but I can say that my great grandmother used to make us Kerosene candy when we had a cold or was congested. It worked everytime and never hurt any of us. Everyone called her the “Town Doctor” because she had the remedy for everything (She was 25% Indian..her mom was 1/2). She passed away at age 99 (3 months and a few weekes shy of her 100th birthday).
Anytime @Dap.
My superfluous butt will learn.
@OTB the crazies just keep coming
.
I loooooove messy bishes
I’ll catch the cosigners and underliners on one of my spaz days….ninjas need to learn don’t come for me unless I send for you #fatass
SMH.
@OTB, cchh cchh cchh, aahh aahh aahh *jason peeks around the tree* girl do you hear that?
i need for akeys to put on some shoes. closed ones. and i am all for sitting down for awhile after baby….but momma supposed to miss his first doctors appointment? both of my kids had doctors appointments within their first week…and if you are a first time mom you really need to go….to hear the nitty gritty.

you are sooo right. these are old ass wives-tales that dont make sense. the reality is. not everyone gets 6 weeks to be of from work. 6 weeks only pertains to the time a women needs for her body to heal.
if she can get up and go back to work in 2 weeks, then thats fine too. and the baby isnt going to die because of it.
that rule about keeping your baby inside for 6 weeks is outdated. take them baby out to get fresh air. just dont let people breathe all in his face …
