In 1988, bad girl singer Cherrelle, who was R&B singer Pebbles’ cousin, dropped her 5th single “Affair” off her third album of the same title.

“Affair” became an instant dance hit and peaked at #4 on the charts. The vinyl 45 record was snatched up by single ladies everywhere off the strength of self assured lyrics like this: “I don’t need commitment/ I don’t need no man to tell me how to feel”
