Hot 97 suspends DJ who joked about Haitian women on air [audio]
Hot 97 radio station in NY has suspended a popular DJ after he made a tasteless joke about Haitian women while live on the air.
An apology won’t be enough to keep HOT 97 DJ Cipha Sounds on the air following remarks he made about Haitian women.
The station says Cipha, whose real name is Luis Diaz, will be off the air indefinitely. He sparked outrage Friday when he said the reason he’s HIV negative is because he doesn’t, “mess with Haitian girls.”
Cipha has also been instructed to take sensitivity training focused on the Haitian community.
The reprimand came after community leaders and elected officials protested outside the HOT 97 studios, calling for Cipha to be fired. He has apologized on the air for his remarks, saying he made a stupid, tasteless joke.
HOT 97 also says it will work with community leaders to increase awareness of programs to address the HIV epidemic. Source

Funny thing about this is they say insensitive things on this show all the time. One of their catch phrases is based off of race. A Jew, a Puerto Rican and a black. They do a gig saying what makes black people mad… Or something like that.

Actually Star got the boot over those comments. He has a show on satellite radio now that is more appropriate for his type of humor.

He didn’t lose his job. He’s off the air “indefinately”, which means “we don’t know when he is coming back, he’s taking a leave of absence”. He does have to take sensitivity classes.

That gives time for the lawyers to see if there’s any loophole the dude could sue. If all is clear, he’s gone. Firing might be a good thing. Tons of fired media personalities end up getting better gigs than before.
This actually brought more publicity to the station so I doubt his check will stop. He’ll probably get a raise. People will tune in to see what he says next

I think Sandra has her bitter moments too. But I can ALMOST give Sandra a pass because she can usually give a REASON why she feels that way about somebody – except Obama (no matter how warped that reason may be.) You know what stemmed Sandra’s beef with Beyonce. You know why Sandra all of a sudden dislikes Chris Brown. We all KNOW why she has a problem with that Sean Garrett guy now and etc.
Plus Sandra’s vileness is spewed at both sexes equally. And if you make some kind of good with Sandra, she’ll let it go. Well, taking into consideration the context of Renegade’s statement, I don’t think she was saying that Haitian isn’t BLACK. Especially since Renegade is from Jamaica (I believe). I think the jist of what she was saying is that if his REMARK were phrased to say BLACK instead of Haitian the reaction would have been different. Could just be my interpretation of her statement and she could think Haitians aren’t black tho.
