Memorial and Pep Rally Stirs Emotions in Tucson, Arizona

Yesterday, U.S. president Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama attended a “Together We Thrive: Tucson and America” memorial service in Tucson, AZ to remember the 6 people killed, and 14 wounded during a Jan. 8 shooting spree by a crazed gunman on Saturday.

During his speech, Obama paused at the podium fifty three times to soak up the audience’s enthusiastic applause and cheering.

“Gabby opened her eyes for the first time,” Obama announced to thunderous applause. Obama was referring to Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords, 40, who was shot in the head during an assassination attempt.

“What we can’t do is use this tragedy as one more occasion to turn on one another,” said Obama.

But, apparently, the occasion can be used as an unofficial pep rally for Obama’s upcoming re-election bid.

“Is it just me, or is this event starting to look more and more like a political rally?,” wrote one political blogger who noted that concession stands were open and Obama t-shirts were on sale.

“Do the people there know they are supposed to be gathered in solemn remembrance of the dead – not cheering like yahoos at a football game?,” he asked.

I have to agree. I mean, come on, cheering and souvenir t-shirt sales at a memorial service? Why am I the only black person who sees the hypocrisy in that?

Celebs Out & About: Sandra Bullock and Louis

Actress Sandra Bullock was spotted outside her NY apartment today with her son, Louis Bullock, who was bundled up in a 1-piece snowsuit, boots and gloves. According to online gossip reports, Bullock’s rumored boyfriend, Ryan Reynolds, has met little Louis.

Another snowstorm dumped up to 6 inches of snow in New York city overnight. A post-Christmas blizzard left thousands of New Yorkers stranded on unplowed streets due to a city workers strike and poor city planning.

Mayor Bloomberg redeemed himself yesterday by employing 1,700 snow plows to clear the cities streets.

“Much better,” said Alma Lester, a Queens resident who had easily made her commute by subway to her mid-town Manhattan office. “The mayor and his people did a much, much better job this time around.1

Nicki Minaj: “I don’t silence those voices any more”

Schizophrenia is back in the news again following the arrest of a mentally ill young man who gunned down 18 people on Saturday, killing 6 and wounding 14, including a congresswoman. It was later revealed that the assailant, Jared Loughner, 22, was a schizophrenic.

Rapper Nicki Minaj, 30, has seized upon the mental health aspect of the murder case to make news for herself. How narcissistic of her…

I have no doubt that Nicki has a personality disorder of some kind, but is she a highly functioning schizophrenic as she claims to be in the current issue of V magazine?

Nicki, who claims to hear voices in her head, said:

“I just always want to do ‘me’, but ‘me’ changes every day. I would crumple up and die if I had to wake up and be the same person every day. I don’t silence those voices anymore. I just let them speak.

Loyal reader Miss Nene is concerned by Nicki’s latest publicity stunt.

Nene writes:

My father is schizophrenic and I have family members that are bi-polar, these are very serious diseases. Many people walk around undiagnosed with mental illnesses and chemical imbalances. I think it is highly irresponsible of her to suggest that her creativity is psychosomatic – unless she does actually have a mental issue that we (and Nicki herself) are unaware of.

Celebs Out & About: Amber Rose wearing Kanye’s Timberlands

Former lesbun stripper-turned-professional beard-turned socialite, Amber Rose, was spotted in West Hollywood yesterday filming her reality show at Platinum Motor Sports. I love Amber’s tomboy look. She accessorized former boyfriend Kanye West’s Timberland boots with a 18K gold Rolex Day Date watch and gold pendant.

The caption says the bald headed chick with her is her sister. But we happen to know that Amber has no sisters. I wonder if there will be any steamy sex scenes between these two on her show?
