Jay Z Ghostwriter to Chris Brown: “Seek Therapy”
Industry insiders have been whispering for months about the mental problems that continue to plague troubled singer Chris Brown.
But after Brown’s sensational meltdown yesterday at the ‘Good Morning America’ studios in NYC, one industry insider is publicly urging the 21-year-old to seek mental health treatment.
In an article for BET.com titled “The Problem With Chris Brown,” noted journalist dream hampton, who penned Jay Z’s biography, Decoded, writes:
He clearly doesn’t have the kind of support system that is encouraging—even insisting—him to seek mental health treatment. His mother is an enabler, and his handlers huddled him into a truck the night he boxed in Rihanna’s face, leaving her to fend for herself—an incredible misstep. Even if they hated Rihanna, they had to know leaving her there would lead to a publicity Chernobyl. These handlers were twice his age.
In lieu of therapy, Chris Brown has Twitter. His small army of fans uses the hashtag #teambreezy to avoid forcing the still young, imploding star to seek the therapy he so desperately needs to not become his stepfather. It is tragic. He’s young enough to be saved. Imagine what a true public healing would do for young Black teenagers entangled in the deadly dance that is domestic violence.

I didn’t know Mental Illness developed at a certain age. I read a story that a kid(kid) put four cats in a microwave one at a time and burnt their paws. He gets counseling. The old saying is that a kid will harm a animal before they will kill a person, who the heck gave this kid counseling???

Well, if they KNEW that Chris Brown actually did the damages, ABC would have filed charges. This young man should be allowed to redeem himself and live his life. You can either support his music or not. He has made restitution for the incident with Rhianna…now move on. Too many people are casting stones and judging him. As young as he is, he can only grow and mature as an adult…with time. Give him a chance to get his life together before putting your mouth on him.

–What is throwing him in jail going to do if he’s as troubled as you say? Those same troubles would be with him after he’s released. I think that instead of insulting him, you should encourage that he seeks the guidance he needs. Bashing one is not the route to go, yet you do it on a regular basis. Chris is human, just like the rest of us.

@anna for the vast majority of people mental illness’ start to develop somewhere between 18-25 when the brain changes. while some children are diagnosed with bipolar or schizophrenia at very young ages it’s very rare, just as it is very rare to be diagnosed after the age of 25 (unless a significant life changing event triggers it, but you’d have to already be predisposition to having one.)

4. Mental illness starts WAAAY before his current age – the only responsibility his mother had prior to now was getting him help if she recognized he needed it. Once this boy got grown, HE became responsible for his actions, not his MAMA!! Dayum! How stupid to continue to blame the Mama for this grown man! Don’t talk about the problem if you cannot provide a fix. I surely wouldn’t want to be sitting at home sipping my spiked coffee in the future, and have someone who doesn’t know a damn thing about me and how I really raised my sons blaming me for either one of them doing some dumb -ish. It’s called accountability. This is all on Chris. There comes a time where you have to let go of your past and build your own dayum future despite how you were raised.
5. That was a hell of a ball of turmoil this boy went through with that Klingon head heffa. Now I do not condone the fight – not at all – but we do know that she is just as much to blame as he was. The boy almost lost his career over that chit, and this yodling, billy-goat fetching broad kept right to moving with hers. He got slammed in his career, self esteem, criminal record, all that. I can imagine he WOULD be tired of hearing about the -ish. He wants to move on, not have the wound re-opened and gouged with salt. #keepitmoving.
Maaaannn, some -ish is just too much for some people. That was a major part of his life. They shouldn’t have even asked about it IMO.
But on the flip side, Chris has to know that the media scandalous azz will do whatever they can to get a reaction. I am not sympathetic, but merely empathetic to what he is going through.

@anna it’s not really they wait too long to diagnose, sometimes they have to wait until you turn 18 to diagnose you with certain illness’. but between 18-25 your brain changes again (this is why insurance rates go down at 25 etc) chemicals in the brain can become imbalanced, and that is what causes the onset.(see britney spears as an example…i believe when she had her break down and was eventually diagnosed with bipolar disorder she was 25) some psychologist also believe the onset between 18-25 is due to the stress suddenly thrust upon young adults (starting college, moving out, starting careers, etc). while we know as you said a child killing or harming pets/animals often leads to the same type of behavior as an adult they still hold off on saying “little 6-7 year old jimmy has antisocial personality disorder (is a sociopath)” until he is 18 years of age.

If I interviewed Chris, I would ask everything, nobody wants to just hear him talk about that album. He can do that on twitter.
I would ask about his mental health, the anger management, the performance on BET where he cried, how he has grown, what did he learn, what message can he give to other young guys his age in those same situations, ect. Chris wants to do things his way and that’s the problem. He’s spoiled with a big ego. Until something happenes to really humble him, I don’t think he’ll change.
The girl in that picture, seems very submissive. Guys like Chris needs a girl like that. Someone they can control without too much of a budge. Smh.
For Eff’s sake will all of you pseudo therapist please go sit down young dude popped off and im sure sees that his career is indeed in jeopardy of disappearing if he doesnt chill out. everybody is making this a big deal homeboy has had 2 countem 2 incidents of rage that we know of and all of a sudden he needs couseling. come on son!!!
People are funny judging if your life was examined in the same way as a celebrities you would be either a narcissist (SR’s favorite diagnosis) a hoe a drug addict or you are mentally unstable…again come on son ease up and the young dude breathe…

Come on now….the only thing that has changed from then(the aftermath of the situation) to now is that he dropped an album (and did a movie/collaborations). I think he’s behavior shows that he is/has not REALLY dealt with this issue — if he had really dealt with it (getting help, seeking some therapy) asking questions about the situation would not have bothered him…..they teach you ways to deal with anger/your emotions/your life problems in therapy.
He need to talk to a professional, someone who is trained to listen to him and how he’s feeling (obvious he’s feelin some kinda{negative} way) about all this…..fans are gonna roll with him, I guess no matter what.
