Jonas Bevacqua, the co-founder and creative director of popular urban clothing company LRG, was found dead in his California home today. He was 34.
LRG was favored by ambassadors of hip hop culture like Kanye West, Cee Lo, Young Jeezy and The Roots.
In an interview with Hypebeast earlier this month, Bevacqua discussed his advice for upstarts fashion brands:
My advice to any upstart brand… is to have a partner with a lot of money, but make sure it’s smart, vested-interest money. There’s a big difference between smart money and regular money. I was lucky enough to have two business-savvy math whiz kids as partners. Know your part – if you’re the creative guy then be the creative guy, if you’re the business guy then be that guy. A lot of times people try to wear all the hats and end up doing nothing at all because they take on too many projects and nothing gets finished. Part of growing is delegating. Keep it fun. If you have to call it work then you probably shouldn’t be doing it. Don’t take it so serious, fashion is an expression. It’s an art, it’s a reflection of how you feel, it’s supposed to be fun. We’re not curing cancer, even though that would be nice. Most importantly always stay inspired or else you can get bored very easily. I’m constantly looking for new hobbies and interests to stay inspired. Source
No official cause of death has been reported, but according to online reports Bevacqua died in his sleep yesterday (May 30) at his home in Laguna Beach, California.

Singer Sean Kingston owes his life to his quick thinking friends and 2 good samaritans who helped hold his head above water following a harrowing Jet Ski accident in Miami on Saturday.
TMZ spoke with Sean’s friend, Cassandra Sanchez, who was on board the Jet Ski with him when they collided into a bridge support.
Sanchez said the 21-year-old singer was racing friends who were on a 2nd Jet Ski in the coastal waterway between Palm Island and Star Island where Puffy Combs owns a mansion.
“Both jet skis pulled out of the dock at the same time and we were going so fast we just blasted past them,” Sanchez told TMZ. “When we turned a corner and crashed … they were so far behind us they didn’t even see us crash.”
Sanchez said as Sean was racing towards the bridge, she screamed out, “We can’t fit under there! Are we going to try and go under there? Sean stop!” But Kingston didn’t turn quickly enough and slammed into one of the supports under the short bridge.
Sanchez said she remembered waking up in the water in pain. Sanchez says, “[Sean] was coughing up blood, foam and pink stuff” … and when he finally opened his eyes, he kept repeating the words, “I’m hurting. I’m hurting”
She said her friends on the other jet ski raced over and tried to help out. Two boaters — one of them a coast guard officer — helped to hold Kingston’s head out of the water. He suffered severe injures, including a ruptured artery and a punctured lung.
A 16-year-old who won her modelling contract in a competition has been announced as the new face of Louis Vuitton, according to London’s Daily Mail tabloid.
The naturally beautiful Zimbabwe-born Nyasha Maronhodze started modeling just two years ago after winning the UK Elite Model Look competition in London in 2009.
The tomboy was discovered by a fashion scout in the street in her Northamptonshire hometown and invited down to London to take part in the contest.
The schoolgirl, who arrived for her first casting wearing her school uniform – experienced a meteoric rise through the echelons of the fashion industry, with an impressive debut season that saw her walking for shows including Louise Gray, Clements Ribeiro, Jonathan Saunders during London Fashion Week SS11 as well as Loewe, Emanuel Ungaro, Jean-Charles de Castelbajac and Louis Vuitton in Paris.
And now, the industry newcomer models couture clothes from Louis Vuitton’s latest collection in a slick advertising campaign art directed by the label’s creative head, Marc Jacobs and shot by world-renowned fashion photographer Stephen Meisel. Source
Who watched the premiere of VH1’s ‘Single Ladies’ last night? The sex dramady was filmed on location in Atlanta and stars LisaRaye, Stacey Dash and Charity Shea as 3 not-so-desperate women deftly navigating their way around the singles scene in Atlanta. These women want the ring, but they don’t care how they get it.
The episode also starred Lauren London as Shelley, another scheming gold digger. Also, Pillar Sanders (Deion’s wife) appears in an upcoming episode.
My favorite scene was the one where Stacey Dash (who plays Val) tosses water in her ex-fiance’s face. The look on that queen’s face was priceless!!
Val is a celebrity stylist to the stars who opens her own boutique. She was engaged to the Quinn (Timon Kelly) for 5 years before she caught him cheating. She confronts Quinn and his mistress Shelly having lunch, and Val closes the door on their relationship for good.
Val: You’re pathetic! And a sorry excuse for a human being — let alone, a man… And when I say “man”, I use the term very loosely!
Quint: See, this is exactly why I kicked you to the curb: too much damn drama!
Last night was the season 3 premiere of VH1’s sports-themed eality TV show, Basketball Wives. The fully scripted show looked back on the drama of last season, which included Evelyn Lozada’s explosive (but scripted) “confession” that she slept with Tami Roman’s baby daddy, ex-NBA star Kenny Anderson.
Now Evelyn is selling the t-shirts that resulted from their brief cat fight at the end of last season. Are you yawning yet?
