Jonas Bevacqua, the co-founder and creative director of popular urban clothing company LRG, was found dead in his California home today. He was 34.
LRG was favored by ambassadors of hip hop culture like Kanye West, Cee Lo, Young Jeezy and The Roots.
In an interview with Hypebeast earlier this month, Bevacqua discussed his advice for upstarts fashion brands:
My advice to any upstart brand… is to have a partner with a lot of money, but make sure it’s smart, vested-interest money. There’s a big difference between smart money and regular money. I was lucky enough to have two business-savvy math whiz kids as partners. Know your part – if you’re the creative guy then be the creative guy, if you’re the business guy then be that guy. A lot of times people try to wear all the hats and end up doing nothing at all because they take on too many projects and nothing gets finished. Part of growing is delegating. Keep it fun. If you have to call it work then you probably shouldn’t be doing it. Don’t take it so serious, fashion is an expression. It’s an art, it’s a reflection of how you feel, it’s supposed to be fun. We’re not curing cancer, even though that would be nice. Most importantly always stay inspired or else you can get bored very easily. I’m constantly looking for new hobbies and interests to stay inspired. Source
No official cause of death has been reported, but according to online reports Bevacqua died in his sleep yesterday (May 30) at his home in Laguna Beach, California.

Singer Sean Kingston owes his life to his quick thinking friends and 2 good samaritans who helped hold his head above water following a harrowing Jet Ski accident in Miami on Saturday.
TMZ spoke with Sean's friend, Cassandra Sanchez, who was on board the Jet Ski with him when they collided into a bridge support.
Sanchez said the 21-year-old singer was racing friends who were on a 2nd Jet Ski in the coastal waterway between Palm Island and Star Island where Puffy Combs owns a mansion.
"Both jet skis pulled out of the dock at the same time and we were going so fast we just blasted past them," Sanchez told TMZ. "When we turned a corner and crashed ... they were so far behind us they didn't even see us crash."
Sanchez said as Sean was racing towards the bridge, she screamed out, "We can't fit under there! Are we going to try and go under there? Sean stop!" But Kingston didn't turn quickly enough and slammed into one of the supports under the short bridge.
Sanchez said she remembered waking up in the water in pain. Sanchez says, "[Sean] was coughing up blood, foam and pink stuff" ... and when he finally opened his eyes, he kept repeating the words, "I'm hurting. I'm hurting"
She said her friends on the other jet ski raced over and tried to help out. Two boaters -- one of them a coast guard officer -- helped to hold Kingston's head out of the water. He suffered severe injures, including a ruptured artery and a punctured lung.

The schoolgirl, who arrived for her first casting wearing her school uniform - experienced a meteoric rise through the echelons of the fashion industry, with an impressive debut season that saw her walking for shows including Louise Gray, Clements Ribeiro, Jonathan Saunders during London Fashion Week SS11 as well as Loewe, Emanuel Ungaro, Jean-Charles de Castelbajac and Louis Vuitton in Paris.
And now, the industry newcomer models couture clothes from Louis Vuitton's latest collection in a slick advertising campaign art directed by the label's creative head, Marc Jacobs and shot by world-renowned fashion photographer Stephen Meisel. Source
Who watched the premiere of VH1's 'Single Ladies' last night? The sex dramady was filmed on location in Atlanta and stars LisaRaye, Stacey Dash and Charity Shea as 3 not-so-desperate women deftly navigating their way around the singles scene in Atlanta. These women want the ring, but they don't care how they get it.
The episode also starred Lauren London as Shelley, another scheming gold digger. Also, Pillar Sanders (Deion's wife) appears in an upcoming episode.
My favorite scene was the one where Stacey Dash (who plays Val) tosses water in her ex-fiance's face. The look on that queen's face was priceless!!
Val is a celebrity stylist to the stars who opens her own boutique. She was engaged to the Quinn (Timon Kelly) for 5 years before she caught him cheating. She confronts Quinn and his mistress Shelly having lunch, and Val closes the door on their relationship for good.
Val: You're pathetic! And a sorry excuse for a human being -- let alone, a man... And when I say "man", I use the term very loosely!
Quint: See, this is exactly why I kicked you to the curb: too much damn drama!
Last night was the season 3 premiere of VH1's sports-themed eality TV show, Basketball Wives. The fully scripted show looked back on the drama of last season, which included Evelyn Lozada's explosive (but scripted) "confession" that she slept with Tami Roman's baby daddy, ex-NBA star Kenny Anderson.
Now Evelyn is selling the t-shirts that resulted from their brief cat fight at the end of last season. Are you yawning yet?

Lil Wayne is arguably the #1 rapper in the country right now. His platinum touch on records combined with his talent-laden Young Money artist roster, which includes rappers Nicki Minaj and Drake, the rap mogul can do no wrong - even when he releases the most God-awful rap ballad in the history of Hip Hop.[audio:Lil-Wayne_How-To-Love.mp3]
Talking about the song, he told MTV in a recent interview, "I can tell you that I've never had a single like it, and it's an amazing song. It's an amazing song." He added, "When I listen to it I get goose bumps. And I feel like the song is gonna take me somewhere that I've never been musically."
The song is recorded for Weezy's new studio installment "Tha Carter IV" which is coming out in the U.S. on June 21. A week before the album release, he will kick off the second leg of his I Am Still Tour at Comcast Theater in Hartford, CT with Rick Ross, Keri Hilson and Far East Movement. Source
Remember yesterday I told you how singer Chris Brown
rearranged his trailer/dressing room got a little upset during the Spring Fest concert in Miami? My inside source stressed that Brown was well within his rights to be angry about the disorganized Memorial Day concert at Bicentennial Park on Saturday.
Brown, I'm told, arrived on time for his scheduled 7 p.m. performance, but the concert organizers kept delaying his start time, which made Brown "flip a gasket", and, well, you know what happened then.
Singer Keri Hilson was one of the artists whose set was shortened to accommodate Brown. The "No Boys Allowed" singer performed only 3 songs. Here's what she had to say on Twitter after her short set:
Not too thrilled abt my time being cut on stage. But I'm sure the other artists weren't either. So I hope u still enjoyed the [short] show!!
Curvy R&B singer Ciara has an obsession with nudity and she's not ashamed to admit that when it comes to dressing herself: less is always more. The sexy siren tells US Weekly that the moments when she feels most comfortable is when she's walking around in the nude.
"I feel the sexiest when I'm by myself, walking around nude," she told Us Magazine. "I have this new obsession with nudity, it's really weird. It may sound weird, but I just really love embracing the body."
The 25-year-old keeps her body in shape by working out fives times a week with celebrity trainer Gunner Peterson, and eating what she calls "clean" foods. Despite her slender physique, the singer explained that her goal is to maintain a healthy body type, versus being skinny. "I can lose weight easily and I don't like to do that," she revealed. "I'm not trying to lose and get small. I just want to keep shape and I just want to focus on abs and glutes. I would never advise somebody to be so strict to where you don't enjoy yourself."
With all the death and mayhem that occurred over the Memorial Day weekend, at least one celebrity enjoyed her holiday weekend in the arms of TWO men. Rowland has been dating man #1 for at least a year now. We have no clue who man #2 is.
From Splash News:
The singer and new 'X-Factor' judge, Kelly Rowland, was spotted at the beach in Miami Beach, FL, in the afternoon with friends. Kelly wore a purple bikini, silver sunglasses and a straw hat on her day at the beach. She spent most of the time taking a nap. Before leaving, Kelly put on a tunic and was seen affectionately kissing a mystery male.

Unable to come to terms with her pastor's secret lifestyle, Bernice King has left her position at New Birth Missionary Church, according to the AJC.
King, 48, the youngest and only surviving daughter of the late civil rights leader Dr. Martin Luther King, left her position as an elder on Sunday just days after Bishop Eddie Long and the church settled lawsuits brought by 4 men who say he coerced them with gifts, clothing and trips in exchange for sex.
King was an impassioned opponent of gay rights and gay marriage in particular. In 2004, King and Long walked side by side during a march against gay marriage that ended at the Martin Luther King grave site. It is well known in the lesbian community that King is not empathetic toward gays and lesbians. Especially since it has long been rumored that Bernice, who never married, is an undercover lesbian herself.
Both Long, 58, and Elder King made the fight against gay marriage their personal crusades. Conflicted church members looking for guidance from Long and King were often instructed to seek Jesus to rid themselves of their "sick" homosexual urgings. Meanwhile, Long and King battled their inner demons in seclusion, only to emerge bitter and broken people.
In a report written by the Southern Poverty Law Center, Long was called “one of the most virulently homophobic black leaders in the religiously based anti-gay movement.” In one sermon, he says to gays and lesbians, “God says you deserve death!”
Long’s New Birth Missionary Baptist megachurch once had a membership of 25,000. But at the 8 a.m. service on the Sunday following news of the settlement, the congregation numbered in the hundreds.
Yesterday I told you that I would spill the tea about what happened in Miami at the annual Spring Fest concert at Bicentenniel Park, when singer Chris Brown threw a fit in his RV trailer.
According to my inside source, the Spring Fest concert, which normally features 15 or more established acts, was unusually disorganized this year.
My source said the line up changed several times during the evening after the gates opened at 5 p.m. The featured artists included Brown, Marsha Ambrosius, Rick Ross, Trey Songz, Keri Hilson, Lloyd, Miguel, Jeremih, Travis Porter, Big Sean, and others.
In defense of Brown, my source said he arrived on time for his set which was supposed to begin around 7 p.m. But the source said that Brown "flipped a gasket" after cooling his heels in his trailer for 3 hours while waiting to go on. "The show was behind and he got there on time. Then he was like, 'what the f*ck is going on?'" said my source.
Even Miguel's mic stand was glowing neon rainbow colors at the Spring Fest concert in Miami.
Rappers Drake and Bow Wow were spotted locked in a manly embrace in Miami over the weekend. Trey Songz brought Drake out during his set at the Springfest in downtown Miami on Saturday. Drake Performed "Successful" and another song with Trey. Bow Wow performed during Chris Brown's set. The photographer who spotted the two men behind a trailer, said the two shared a warm embrace and then spoke briefly before each man departed with his entourage. I wonder what they spoke about?
A plethora of Hip Hop stars hit Miami Beach this 3-day weekend to partake in the Memorial Day festivities. On Saturday, rappers Lil Wayne and his homie Drake spent roughly $50,000 between them at Miami's #1 strip club, the King of Diamonds.
Weezy partied at King of Diamonds while his current girlfriend, Dhea (in grey dress) chatted with his stylist, Marissa Flores.

Two Miami beach police officers were hospitalized early this morning after a police shootout erupted on a normally serene stretch of South beach. Miami Beach Police Sgt. Alejandro Bello told the Miami Herald newspaper that the officers' injuries are not life-threatening. The shootout was one of two violent incidents that marred the annual "Urban Beach Week" festivities that draws thousands of young black people to the beaches from around the country.
In this riveting video shot by mkradio and uploaded to YouTube, a black SUV careens down a busy street hitting other cars as gunshots ring out just before 4 a.m. in the 100 block of 15th Street.
A man can be heard in the background saying two police officers shot at the SUV, stopping it at an intersection. As the video rolls, officers wearing black cautiously approach the vehicle from the front and driver's side. "He crashed all the cars," explains the narrator as the camera pans behind the SUV to show a line of cars stopped in the street. Just then, a hail of gunfire shatters the night air.
When the gunfire ceases, the narrator declares, "Ooh, they killed everyone [inside the car]!"
Detective Jenny Velazquez confirmed 1 man was dead and two police officers were receiving treatment at Mount Sinai Medical Center with unknown injuries.
Singer Sean Kingston is spending his Memorial Day weekend hooked up to a respirator in a Miami hospital intensive care unit.
According to TMZ and the Miami Herald, the 21-year-old reggae star was riding a jet ski with a female passenger around 6 pm Sunday when he slammed into a bridge support.
The impact threw both Kingston and his passenger into the water. Luckily, a boater happened by and pulled both of them into his boat. According to the Miami Herald, the accident occurred at the Palm Island Bridge, which connects the MacArthur Causeway to Palm and Hibiscus islands.
Kingston is listed in critical condition at the Ryder Trauma Center at Jackson Memorial hospital. There is no word on the condition of his passenger. Kingston rose to fame at age 17 with his first single, "Beautiful Girls".
According to the Atlanta Journal Constitution, a popular local model is dead and her friend is clinging to life at Grady hospital intensive care unit after both women fell from a window at the W Hotel early this morning.
Police say LaShawna Threatt (left) and Ciara Williams, a dancer, were play fighting at a party on the 10th floor of the posh W Hotel when they crashed through a window around 3:30 am. An external ledge 5 stories down broke their fall. Threatt died on the ledge, but Williams rolled off and fell an additional 5 floors to the ground. She remains in critical condition at Grady hospital.
Earlier in the evening, Threatt, a single mother of one, celebrated her 30th birthday with a small group of friends at an Atlantic Station restaurant. The party eventually moved to the roof of the nearby W Hotel on 14th street, and then to a hotel room on the 10th floor, according to friends.
Jomarys Castillo, a friend of Threatt's who didn't attend the party, told the AJC that Threatt was a local model who was well-known. "It was her 30th birthday and it was wonderful and fabulous, just like she was," said Castillo.

"LaShawna is a mess, a silly goofball. She likes to playfight and tickle you," added Passionate Chonvill, a friend of Threatt's who also didn't attend the party.
"They had just gotten in the hotel and were having a good time," Chonvill said. "My friends who were there, said it was so random. They literally just fell out the window. They are two small girls and I am trying to figure out how the hell, two small girls could break a window like that."
Another friend, who asked not to be identified, said friends who attended the party told her something was wrong with the window. "When they fell through, everybody in the room screamed," she said.
In a statement to the AJC, hotel manager Michael O'Donohue said:
"The incident at the W Atlanta early Saturday is very tragic and our thoughts and prayers are with the woman who was injured and the family and friends of the woman who died in the fall. There is a police investigation underway and all information must come from the authorities."

There are conflicting reports about an accident involving two women who fell from a window at the W hotel in midtown Atlanta last night. One woman is dead and the other is in critical condition at Grady hospital.
According to both the AJC and WSB-TV, a party was going on at 3:30 am when the women started "play fighting" and broke through a fortified window (which isn't easy to break). The women had attended an all-white party or a birthday party at the hotel.
According to WSB-TV, the two women fell from the 10th floor of the posh hotel located at 14th and Peachtree streets. But the AJC reports that the women fell from the 7th floor. A Facebook user who claims she attended the party last night says the women fell from the roof of the hotel.
Both women landed on a 5th floor ledge that broke their fall from either the 10th or 7th floors. One woman died on the 5th floor ledge. The other woman rolled off the ledge and fell an additional 5 floors to the ground. She is in critical condition at Grady, according to the AJC.
“It is really miraculous that anyone could survive that,” an onlooker Chris Cortnay told WSB.
The identities of both women are being withheld until the families are notified.
Poet and spoken word pioneer Gil Scott-Heron has died at age 62. Scott-Heron passed away Friday (May 27) upon returning home from a trip to Europe. His exact cause of death is unknown at this time.
Edited: According to People online, Scott-Heron was known to be HIV positive and had struggled with drug addiction throughout a large part of his life.
In the 1970s, Gil Scott-Heron's smooth rebellious storytelling set to simple bass notes and jazz synthesizers became the precursor for today's rap/Hip Hop music and spoken word genres. His album, The Revolution Will Not Be Televised, was heavily sampled by today's rap artists such as Kanye West and Common.
Kanye featured prose from Scott-Heron's "Comment #1" for the spoken word ending of his track "Lost In The World" ("Who Will Survive in America") off his My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy album.

Queen Latifah's ex-lover, Jeanette Jenkins, was spotted on the set of Tia and Tamera Mowry's new reality show filming in Los Angeles. According to my source, who is close to Jenkins' camp, Jeanette and Latifah remain cordial to each other despite the recent break up. Jeanette has been in Atlanta filming the 'Single Ladies' set to premiere on VH1 starring LisaRaye and Stacey Dash, while Latifah has been in New York doing promo and marketing for her new clothing line on HSN.
Latifah's production company filmed the 'Single Ladies' reality show in Atlanta earlier last year and earlier this year. My source tells me that Latifah and Jenkins "rode in the same car together" to the set of SL one day last month. The source confirmed that Latifah and Jeanette had an "on again, off again relationship." But now it's definitely off again.
The source also told me that both Jeanette and Latifah's names are on the lease of a home the two women formerly shared in Malibu, California.
Tia and Tamera's show, on the Style Network, has been in production since April. Tia stars in BET's 'The Game', which was picked up for a 5th season. 'The Game' begins shooting again in early Fall of this year.
NFL star Terrell Owens is accusing a former employee of stealing $27,000 from him to pay the man's rent at a Buckhead apartment complex.
According to the AJC, Antonio Edwards, 35, is accused of using Owens' Bank of America account to pay his $2,100 a month rent at the upscale Post Alexander apartments from November 2009 through November 2010.
Edwards shared the luxury apartment with Anthony Watson, 34, but according to the complex management, only Edwards' name was on the lease. He paid the rent online using a portal set up by Post Properties for accepting rent payments from residents. The portal sends out an email to confirm each time a rental payment is made online.
Post Properties management provided Atlanta police with copies of the email confirmations, plus bank records from Bank of America. Owens confirmed Edwards is a former employee but he doesn't know how Edwards got access to his bank account.
Post Properties reimbursed Owens' $27,000 by law.
Here's the question: didn't Terrell notice that $2,100 was leaving his bank account every month for 12 whole months? And if he doesn't worry himself with such trivial things as checking his account because he's busy updating his Twitter page, shouldn't his accountant have noticed the discrepancies?
According to the AJC, Fulton County Magistrate Judge Kimberly Warden issued 13 arrest warrants charging Edwards with 13 felony counts of theft by conversion.
A WSB TV reporter located Edwards at a Mableton address. But when he knocked on the door, no one answered.
Update I 11:50 pm ET:
According to DeKalb County police, Roxanne Taylor, the woman dubbed the 'Grandma bandit', is actually a man. It isn't clear if Taylor is the 'Grandma bandit' police have been looking for, or a cross-dresser who robbed pharmacies dressed as an elderly woman, or both.
A rush hour police chase on North Druid Hills Road and I-85 ended in the death of the woman dubbed the 'Grandma bandit', this morning according to the AJC.
The woman, identified in an arrest warrant as Roxanne Taylor, 58, of Martin Luther King Jr. Drive in Atlanta, was spotted in the drive-through at a Wendy's on Piedmont Road by someone who noticed that she matched the description of the bandit who has robbed several metro area drugstores in the past two weeks.
When police arrived, Taylor fled the Wendy's drive-through in a gold Jeep and a chase ensued up Interstate 85 northbound.
She was involved in a minor traffic accident after exiting at North Druid Hills Road, APD spokeswoman Mekka Parish told the AJC.
Police who were pursuing Taylor heard a single gunshot and returned fire, hitting her multiple times. Witnesses told the AJC that the driver side window of Taylor's jeep was blown out. None of the officers were injured.
Taylor gained notoriety for her brazen daylight armed robberies of local area pharmacies. Witnesses described Taylor as between 60 and 70 years old, 5ft-6 and weighing between 120-130 lbs with puffy cheeks. She strode boldly into the pharmacies, pulled out a gun and demanded cash before fleeing in a gold or tan Jeep Liberty.
An arrest warrant taken out on Taylor yesterday charged her with robbing 3 pharmacies on May 12, 14 and 24. Taylor wore the same black University or Georgia baseball cap during each robbery.

NY Knicks star forward Carmelo Anthony celebrated his birthday bash in New York last night without his wife, La La, by his side (Melo turns 27 on Sunday).
Melo's solo appearance at Greenhouse in NYC sparked all sorts of rumors of a break up. As you know, the longtime couple split up a few years back due to rumors of Melo's infidelities. And there was recent talk of an out-of-wedlock baby born to a groupie of Melo's. Well, it's for the best if they have indeed broken up. Melo can sow his wild oats without fear of retribution, and La La can be free to pursue the fame that's been eluding her due to her lack of discernible talents. I do hope they keep it civil for their son Kiyan's sake though.
Reality TV personalities Emily Bustamante, left, and Chrissy Lampkin and music producer Squid Beatz were the only celebs in the house, apparently.

A source tells Popeater.com that Oprah Winfrey will revive her show on her OWN network before the year is out.
Oprah ended her 25-year run on May 25th with an extravagant, overblown 3-day sendoff that would have made Jesus blush.
Before the final two episodes were even taped, Harpo Productions, Oprah's company, announced that Oprah's final guest would be "the biggest star in the world" -- prompting many in the media to try and guess who the biggest star could be since both Michael Jackson and Elizabeth Taylor were dead.
As it turns out, Oprah was her own final guest, meaning she is the biggest star in the world. At least in her own mind, Oprah believed that no other star was big enough to share the stage with her.
And to drive the point home, Harpo photoshopped Opah's final photo (shown above) 5 shades lighter, giving her an otherworldly glow, not unlike that of an angel who is too perfect for this world.
"I won't say goodbye. I'll just say, Until we meet again," she tearfully told her audience, which was made up of people who had never been in her audience before.
"She is going to dedicate herself to her new network and do whatever needs to be done to make sure it's a huge hit," a co-worker of Oprah's told Popeater.com. "If this means bringing her own show back to life on her network then she will. I can't imagine that she won't be back on the air before the end of the year."
Phil Donahue was (and will always be) my favorite daytime TV host ever. He ended his long daytime television run with one respectfully understated episode.
It took Oprah three star-studded, over the top, overhyped shows to say goodbye - and she she won't even be gone that long. Like a drug addict, no narcissist can stay away from their steady source of supply.
