Out & About: Dwight Howard, Chewbacca, Nicole Scherzinger, Lewis Hamilton

After suffering a crushing defeat in the NBA playoffs, Orlando Magic star Dwight Howard, left, went to Disney World. The All-Star center attended the soon-to-open “Star Tours – The Adventures Continue” 3-D attraction at Disney’s Hollywood Studios in Lake Buena Vista, Fla. Here, he poses with Star Wars character Chewbacca in front of the entrance to the attraction, while wearing Mouse Ears inspired by R2-D2, the lovable droid from the Star Wars film saga. The new attraction will open May 20, 2011, the same day the 2011 edition of the Walt Disney World annual event “Star Wars Weekends” opens.

Readers’ Photos of The Day

I quit posting Readers’ Photos of The Day a long time ago after polling my readers who indicated how much they despised Readers photos with celebrities.

But I had to post these photos sent in by loyal reader Nikki K. and her idol, actress and socialite Megan Good, because they’re just so cute!

Nikki writes:

Good morning,

Some friends and I were at an Mexican Karaoke Bar in “The Valley” and guess who randomly comes in actress Meagan Good along with her sister Lamaya from the group issys and Lil’ B from the ray-j show. They were dressed casual, really sweet and down to earth having fun with everyone.

Urban Blog Reviews Beyonce’s ’4′

Normally I don’t pay attention to anything gossip blog Concrete Loop writes, not because I’m a hater but because Angel and I have had our differences in the past, and because I tend to hold a grudge a lot longer than Mariah carried #dembabies.

But today, I’ve decided to put aside my differences because CL was the only urban blog invited to review Beyonce’s upcoming album, ’4′.

According to Angel, CL was invited to an ultra exclusive listening party with Beyonce at the New York offices of Columbia Records yesterday “along with 10+ of her devoted internet fans.” The kids got the chance to study Beyonce, up close and personal, during the 5 song preview.

Wasn’t that nice of her?

This is significant because that other singer, Rihanna, who we used to love here on Sandrarose.com, invited only mainstream (read: Caucasian) bloggers to review her album before it dropped last year. The snub was considered a slap in the face to urban bloggers who have held Rihanna down for years when those other blogs weren’t checking for her.

Some skeptics might say Beyonce inviting an urban blog and fans to a private listening party proves how far Bey has fallen, because the old Beyonce wouldn’t have shown love for an urban blogger or her fans. But the fact is, she did show love and Rihanna didn’t.

By inviting one urban blog to review her album in her presence, Beyonce symbolically invited all urban bloggers.

Remember I told you that socialite Amber Rose hired a trainer to pound her tired looking body back into shape? I’m told her efforts are paying off. She lost 6 lbs in one week. Good for her. Amber attended Maxim’s Hot 100 Party last night in Hollywood.

Friends Kim Karsdashian and Kelly Osbourne got jiggly with it as they checked out each others hot bodies on the red carpet at the Southern Style St Bernard Project Event With Ambassador Britney Spears in Beverly Hills, Ca last night.

Wasn’t Common Just at The White House in December?

Does a grassy area on the lawn south of the White House count as part of the White House? Because that’s where rap star Common stood as he hosted the National Christmas Tree lighting for the Obamas, their children and other political bigwigs in Washington back in December.

If Common was on the south lawn handling his tree lighting duties, then I’m sure he must have been invited inside the White House as well for some eggnog at some point.

Right wing pundits and other critics in the media are “enraged” that U.S. President Barack Obama invited rapper Common to a “night of poetry” event at the White House last night.

The 2-time Grammy Award winning Hip Hop star is catching heat because of rap songs and poetry he recorded years ago that contained some references to former president George W. Bush and Osama bin Laden.

But where was all the outright indignation and gnashing of teeth from the right-wing pundits and media critics when Common was invited to the White House in December 2010?

Did I also mention that Common was an invited guest at the White House Christmas tree lighting in December 2009 too?

What’s bigger: hosting the National Christmas tree lighting at the White House or participating in a little poetry event, both of which took place only months apart?

Personally, I don’t see the difference. Common is the same rapper today that he was in December. So if you’re going to pull your hair out over his invitation to the White House last night, then the hair pulling should have started in December.

Not So Blind Item…

I did not write these words. Please direct any questions you may have to the original source of the Blind Item: Page Six.

Which apparently clean singer has a huge drug problem and had to make a big payout to a tour manager, who quit and sued after he was asked to look after a suitcase that turned out to be packed with drug paraphernalia?

Newt Gingrich Announces He’s Running for President

Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich just announced his candidacy for president of the United States.

The Republican from Georgia made his announcement via social networking website Twitter.com today: “I believe we can return America to hope and opportunity,” Gingrich said. “We’ve done it before, we can do it again.”

Gingrich will make his first official appearance as a candidate on Fox News Channel’s Sean Hannity Show tonight.

Gingrich is the first major Republican candidate to enter the 2012 race. Former Massachusetts governor Mitt Romney and former Minnesota governor Tim Pawlenty are expected to toss their hats into the ring soon. And former governor Sarah Palin hasn’t officially announced her candidacy yet.

Naturally, Gingrich’s announcement is causing quite a stir on Twitter.com.
