Gorgeous singer Ciara has a new man (Amar’e Stoudemire), a new look and a new attitude. Now all she needs is a hit record to put her back on top. Ciara attended a screening of the film “The Hangover Part II” at the Landmark Sunshine Cinema in NYC last night.

Has the “Oprah Effect” Negatively Impacted America?
Sara Stewart of the NY Post has an excellent brief summary of Oprah Winfrey’s past 25 years as one of the most influential TV talk show moguls in history.
There is no doubt that the so-called “Oprah Effect” has shaped the consciousness of many and influenced popular culture. But as Stewart points out, “occasionally, that influence has backfired.”
The “Oprah effect” has shaped our national consciousness in profound ways. “There are a lot of people whose lives are better, thanks to what she’s done,” says Robert Thompson, founding director of the Bleier Center for Television and Popular Culture at Syracuse University. “Her whole message of empowerment is the idea that you can change your circumstances.”
Occasionally, however, that influence has seriously misfired.
“Oprah has mainstreamed a lot of very questionable characters in my opinion,” anti-cult therapist Steven Hassan has said, pointing to Oprah acolyte James Arthur Ray whose infamous sweat lodge led to the deaths of three people in 2009.
The megalithic TV host and producer has also arguably helped to foster an unprecedented level of national narcisissm, and a mass susceptibility to snake-oil salesmen disguised as self-improvement gurus. She’s given a national platform to controversial topics, such as the “link” between childhood vaccines and autism, which have had ramifications far beyond the Nielsen ratings.
As Stewart notes: “No single American personality in recent years has influenced our culture as pervasively as Oprah Winfrey.
But Oprah’s celebration of mediocrity, her lack of true insight into her own failings, and her inability to see past the tip of her grandiose nose will forever mark her as one of the biggest narcissists in the history of television.

Celeb Style: Romeo Miller
Some of you are too young to remember the 80s fashion craze sparked by students wearing pajama bottoms to school. It looks like DWTS’ Romeo Miller is trying to bring ready-to-wear pajamas back. The 21-year-old rapper-turned-actor was seen dressed in a crazy colorful Emo pajama bottom as he hugged his dance partner Chelsie Hightower after they finished rehearsing for the DWTS finale on Saturday. Romeo is definitely down with swirl. Earlier this week he was reportedly lip-locking with 60-year-old Kirstie Alley. The “My Baby” rapper, who currently stars in ‘Jumping The Broom’, is the son of former rapper and Hip Hop mogul Master P.

Doctor under investigation for telling patient “You need Jesus”
A Christian doctor in England is under investigation by the British medical professional body for telling a patient that he needed Jesus.
Richard Scott, a doctor for 28 years, was informed by the General Medical Council (GMC) that an investigation was underway after a young man’s mother lodged a complaint.
Dr. Scott, who practices at a medical center in Margate, east of London, said he had a lengthy discussion about treatment and follow up care with the unidentified 24-year-old male patient, who likely suffered from depression.
But when the man’s mother asked what the doctor told him, he replied: “He just said I need Jesus.”
This prompted the mother to report Dr. Scott to the GMC for medical misconduct.
Dr. Scott insists he acted professionally: “I only discussed my faith at the end of a lengthy medical consultation after exploring the various interventions that the patient had previously tried,” he said.
“I only discussed mutual faith after obtaining the patient’s permission. In our conversation, I said that, personally, I had found having faith in Jesus helped me and could help the patient. At no time did the patient indicate that they were offended, or that they wanted to stop the discussion. If that had been the case, I would have immediately ended the conversation. Source
The young man practices a different faith than Christianity, but his faith had lapsed recently. He continues to seek treatment at the center despite the complaint lodged against the doctor by his mother.
Celeb Style: 2011 Billboard Music Awards
The Fashion Critic gave Beyonce the Most Uninspiring Award for wearing this black number from Lanvin’s Fall 2011 Collection. She gussied up the unflattering dress with gold Christian Louboutin heels and Lorraine Schwartz jewels.
Rihanna, who usually dresses provocatively for awards shows, toned it down last night by opting for the understated elegance of a men’s tailored Max Azria white suit with nude colored Louboutin’s. Her white, buttonless silk blouse was open down to her navel where she “showcased a gold fringe Solange Azagury-Partridge tassle necklace.” She got my Best Dressed Award for the night.
According to fashion blog Upscale hype, rapper Nicki Minaj attended the 2011 Billboard Music Awards wearing a piece from the Mark Fast Spring 2011 Ready to Wear Collection and a Gareth Pugh outfit for her uninspiring performance of “Super Bass”.
Beyoncé Accepts Her Billboard Millennium Award
After performing her single “Run The World (Girls)” during last night’s live telecast of the 2011 Billboard Music Awards at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, singer Beyoncé accepted the first ever Billboard Millennium Award from her proud mom, Tina Knowles, and her nephew Juelz.
The award was created to “recognize Beyoncé’s career achievements and influence in the music industry.”
Several of Beyoncé’s close relatives, famous friends and collaborators — including First Lady Michelle Obama, Lady Gaga, The-Dream, U2′s Bono, Babyface, Stevie Wonder, Solange and her son Daniel “Juelz” Smith, Barbra Streisand, Matthew Knowles and Tina Knowles — took part in the Billboard Millennium Award presentation with pre-recorded personal messages about the singer’s accomplishments and impact. Lady Gaga, who collaborated with Beyoncé on remixes of their singles “Telephone” and “Videophone,” summed it up best: “You represent the dream,” she said. Source
Side note: why is Juelz wearing culottes and driving shoes when he’s not old enough to drive?
