Urban Blog Reviews Beyonce’s ’4′
Normally I don’t pay attention to anything gossip blog Concrete Loop writes, not because I’m a hater but because Angel and I have had our differences in the past, and because I tend to hold a grudge a lot longer than Mariah carried #dembabies.
But today, I’ve decided to put aside my differences because CL was the only urban blog invited to review Beyonce’s upcoming album, ’4′.
According to Angel, CL was invited to an ultra exclusive listening party with Beyonce at the New York offices of Columbia Records yesterday “along with 10+ of her devoted internet fans.” The kids got the chance to study Beyonce, up close and personal, during the 5 song preview.
Wasn’t that nice of her?
This is significant because that other singer, Rihanna, who we used to love here on Sandrarose.com, invited only mainstream (read: Caucasian) bloggers to review her album before it dropped last year. The snub was considered a slap in the face to urban bloggers who have held Rihanna down for years when those other blogs weren’t checking for her.
Some skeptics might say Beyonce inviting an urban blog and fans to a private listening party proves how far Bey has fallen, because the old Beyonce wouldn’t have shown love for an urban blogger or her fans. But the fact is, she did show love and Rihanna didn’t.
By inviting one urban blog to review her album in her presence, Beyonce symbolically invited all urban bloggers.

Good morning. I didn’t read the review somebody tell me if it’s good or bad.
The problem with that is they may have been so star struck that they were not honest. Bloggers are bold and even disrespectful because of the annonymity they enjoy. I doubt most of us would say the things we say about celebs behind their backs to their faces. But it was nice of her to invite them. I was just thinking that these celebs need to get with with the times and start being more involved in blog culture beyond lurking or commenting annonymously.
but do you get a true review in an instance like this? if you are the only urban blog invited and dont want to be excluded from future events can you really say man everything i heard was wack lol.

But Sandra Mae – didn’t Rihanna invite ONE “urban” blogger to actually join her on TOUR, which is a lot more love than any blogger, urban or otherwise, got.
Do you recall letting us listen to that tape.
Besides, I’m sure the reason Rihanna doesn’t deal with black blogs is because “WE” can be the most critical. We give her the most hell for being a “non-singer” instead of giving her props for making her limited vocal skill work for her and parlaying it into millions of dollars.
I don’t blame her, if the pop audience embraces her and puts that money in her pocket while “we” can’t find ANYTHING positive to say – I’d be all over the NON-urban blogs my damn self.
PS: Beyonce’ chose CL because they CONSTANTLY LOOP around Beyonce in every damn post. That’s why I stopped going to that site years ago. They don’t do a dam thing except post pictures about Beyonce and their “music reviewer” is a stan who loves all things Bey.
First, I love Beyonce. I’m a Beyonce fan to the bone, but I can’t really trust a review from **** for 2 reasons – #1: they are rarely critical enough for my taste and #2 – I doubt that they’d trash Beyonce or any celeb after being invited to a listening session. Who, other than Sandra Rose or B—-p, would write ANYthing negative about Beyonce if they were invited to preview songs for her upcoming album? Who’d really take the chance, other than SandraRose, of never being invited back? Out of all of the black bloggers out there, CL is definitely the safest possible route to take.
I’ll have to hear the CD for myself. This review means zilch, zero, nothing at all to me.

I certainly won’t be buying it, but I do believe the other tracks are better than that Run The World monstrosity.

I’ve noticed on several occasions via twitter that Angel from **** communicates with Solange when she has upcoming gigs….that relationship probably extended to the invite. I couldnt possibly understand why **** would get the invite…there are better blogs.

@ Carrington: sorry I missed your question. I was kind of busy yesterday with blog posts. You’re right, Rihanna (or her people) did invite ONE urban blogger to go out on tour. But when that urban blogger declined, it still shouldn’t have stopped her from inviting urban bloggers to her listening party. And you’re right again: if I was invited to Beyonce’s listening party I would not be invited back.
I would have broken every rule because my readers come first! I did notice that JustJared broke a couple of rules that Angel said CL adhered to. But Jared’s skin color affords him the opportunity to break rules without repercussions.
