This is so embarrassing. We are descendants of African kings and queens. Yet our people continue to disrespect our proud heritage every chance we get. We have to do better!

Planking has been going on for a long time now in other segements of the population and is just now gaining popularity in the black community. Nobody said boo when our white counterparts did it. Side note, this is far from being on the same level of disrespect that some of our youths show to our heritage everyday i.e. selling drugs, fighting, etc.

Too bad you missed my first post on this topic where I clearly stated that this dumb fad started on Facebook among middle class kids and then found its way to black Twitter. I never said this was a black thing. Only that blacks are just now discovering it after a couple of people already died from planking. Happy 4th!

Exactly. I’ve seen black people who think they’re “planking” by laying down on the floor. That is not planking. But leave it to us to take something from another culture and do it totally wrong.

What do both of these stories have in common? These remarkable young ladies are (inserts drum roll)…BLACK. It sure would be nice to focus on the positive things happening in our communities because, as quiet as it’s kept, we ARE getting ahead, and we have for over 400 years.

Um, we got an almost 80% out-of-wedlock pregnancy rate among black women, large amounts of our men are incarcerated, our young boys are being gunned down and buried every single day and our young people look up to the likes of Lil Wayne, Amber Rose and other wastes of oxygen.

Black folks PLANKING is the least we need to be worried about right about now.

Sandra, being descendants unfortunately doesn’t mean that character and traits will carry on from generation to generation. It’s like an inheritance just because the parents were successful business people doesn’t mean that their kids wind up to do the same and continue on. Just look at the “Hilton’s”.

In regards to making everything a big deal.

Let me just say this. There is a correlation between people’s action and reputation. I guess it goes back to the old sayings “Actions speak louder than words” and “Every action causes a reaction”. It never fails that we want to do want we want, act ignorant but yet we don’t want to be judged or held accountable for what we do.

Companies spend a lot of money and resources in “Reputation Management” which even includes holding their employees to a standard if they want to work there. So obviously what you put out there is not just crazy talk.

I just think it is hilarious that we quick to jump on some stupid ass fad but sh!t that may benefit us or can actually help us, we bear absolutely no interest in especially when it involves some self discipline
