CAUGHT: CVS rapist captured

Cobb County police have apprehended the man who kidnapped, raped and robbed a CVS customer in Austell last week.

Sheriff’s officers and U.S. Marshalls arrested Darrious Mathis near Greenbriar Mall shortly after 10:30 a.m. Friday. The 21-year-old is charged with hijacking [a] motor vehicle, possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime, kidnapping, rape and aggravated sodomy.

Police said the victim had just walked out of the CVS Pharmacy at 800 East-West Connector in Austell at about 1:30 a.m. Wednesday, when she was approached by the suspect. Investigators said he forced the woman into her vehicle and had her drive him to an unknown location where he raped her.

Police said the suspect then had the woman drive him to several ATM’s in the metro area and forced her to withdraw money from her bank account.

At some point during the crime, the suspect got out of the victim’s car and ran away on foot.

I’m not blaming the victim, but people really need to be more observant and cautious. There was a girl that was murdered in Kansas some years back by some dude that was on video following her around Target. I guess she was too into what she was shopping for to notice that he was following her. He didn’t have a basket, didn’t make a purchase and ran up on her as she was trying to get into her car. This happened in broad daylight.
I always park as close to the entrance as possible, pay attention to my surroundings and don’t be all on the phone when I’m loading my stuff into my car. I keep my basket between me and the car. I usually try to walk out when there are couples or groups of people around and if it’s night I have no shame in requesting a store attendant.

The last time I saw my Madea alive she was hooked up to on hospice hooked up to machines and chit. I kissed on her hand and she said to me “I’ll see you later baby, you take care of yourself.” I told her to take care of her self and that I’d see her later… I knew that was the last time I would ever see her alive….I was leaving my aunts house.

But her funeral was the bomb. My family did a hell’va job putting her away. Before the put the dirt on her they threw all the cards she had ever recieved on top of the casket. I’m talking hundreds and hundreds of cards from Christmas, Mother’s Day, Birthday’s…she put in her wiil that she wanted to be buried with all her love (the cards)….
