Occupy Hollywood’s Azzhole %
Webcomic artist Ryan Casey tackles the Hollywood elite with his comic strip parodies of the #Occupy Wall Street protests.
In his hilarious comic series, Casey shouts out the privileged, narcissistic, wealthy Hollywood elite, referring to them as the “asshole %” — a pun on the top 1% of taxpayers who pay less taxes than the middle class.
His hit list includes Beyonce, Justin Bieber, Lady Gaga, Chaz Bono — and our personal favorite: Anderson Cooper.
The only celebrities missing from his set are Oprah Winfrey, Ashton Kutcher, Sean Combs, Jay Z and Kanye West.

They certainly aren’t calling out the rich because they look pretty. The rich have what the less fortunate want. Access to money. Bigger, newer better houses. Bigger, newer cars. Able to go shopping and not worry a bout the price tag. Its natural. We all have an unchangeable desire to want more. If not for ourselves, for our children. For our family.
They are frustrated at the wrong people. They need to be frustrated at the government. Dragging middle class through the mud. Cutting funding to education, while providing subsidies for oil companies. I’m saying I understand the anger, but the targets are all wrong.

) but on the bright side, its an attempt to make people more cognizant of the tax issues surrounding us. I don’t think its fair that someone making millions of dollars should pay less taxes than a plumber

I agreed with the Occupy Wall Street movement…but like many movements in this country eventually this is gonna spread out to encompass more than the orignators intended. There are people who will protest just to protest and not know what the hell they’re protesting. I don’t have a problem with the rich, I have a problem with the rich who feel they’re automatically better than those with less and can empathize or even try to understand what others are going through. Or those who feel we should all pay the same but if someone told them, well maybe you should all live the same too than they’d have a heart attack. I would agree MORE with the Occupy movement if half the folks knew what they were protesting against. @dougie, I don’t know for sure how much I’m paying offhand. I just barely break even when I file. Virginia does get you on the property taxes for houses and cars. I live in Arlington county and I tried my hardest not to register my car here

they do have fed jobs in houston and for some reason they pay more even tho the cost of living is cheaper down there
but i’m not sure what the positions go up to down there (like i noticed a lot in nyc only go up to 12 or stay at a certain grade)

I’m confised too. I thought the W4 is what you fill out when you first start working somewhere. The W2 is what they send you notating your income to file your taxes each year. And a 1040 is what you use to file.

No- you know fed is covering me. But I’m on my mom’s ins until I turn 26 (and her ins is all covered by her ex-employer- 100%.) But they said they’ll have to drop me on 3/1/12 cause I’ll be 26.
So I’ll have to start contributing to my health ins like every other fed employee. Haven’t had to thus far. Gonna miss that $160 a month. And I hav to start it in Nov. during open enrollment so I’ll have it in March, although I won’t even need it for like 5 months!!!

In Arlington county, they’ll ticket you for out of state tags, I got a warning for out of state tags and failure to display the county decal but some of my friends who have Texas plates and live in Fairfax county have never had a problem. So you might be able to get away with it

You have to think of a hospital who takes care of patients for free as like a big bank who can and will run out of money. The biggest cost most hospitals deal with is supply costs and labor. That’s why hospitals are always looking for ways to cut down on the costs of supply because if they can’t, they will have to cut jobs. Also, the government (no offense) can’t deliver my mail to me properly…why on earth would I want them to take care of my health?

What start are you in? The NE area rapes you on EVERYTHING! Healthcare included. And in Fed, your dental/some health plans premiums are based on the area you live in. Living in the NE/Mid-Atlantic area GUARANTEES our premiums are MUCH higher than the norm. (And I’m opting for higher coverage plans all across the board rather than the std coverage.)
I was acutally shocked that health/life/dental/vision only came out to $158/month for me, honestly. I thought it would be much higher.

yes people forced to buy insurance so they can go to the dr..sounds like they will really be royally f’ed. If you’re in the healthcare industry you stand to gain from so called “Obamacare” in the form it is in now. Funny how people in every developed nations in the rest of the world can get basic healthcare for free except in the U.S. If person is not poor enough for medicaid or lucky enough to have a decent plan from an employer they are the ones “royally fcked” If there was a public option you wouldn’t have to worry about jobs.
1. People could start their own businesses with out having to worry about the cost of insurance for future employees.
2. People would not have to stay in crappy jobs or jobs they hate just for the healthcare. If they could leave that would open up a job for somebody else.
3. People wouldn’t have to stay on a job when they have a good idea for a business because they have a sick kid at home.
Haven’t you ever wondered why companies provide health insurance yet at the same time complain about the cost and fought against the public option? Because the corrupt corporations know that there are some things they couldn’t make people do for just money. But there are things they can make people do and put up with because they have a sick kid/spouse at home who needs insurance.

For jobs right now you might have to relocate, some areas have high/low demands for certain jobs.
everyone wants experience not a sheet of paper acknowledging ur “basic” understand of something..

I’m sure Chi. My mother was laid off 2 years ago. She didn’t really look in the beginning because she was enjoying the time off and my dad paying for everything
but she expresses her frustration now a days too. She sends out resumes like crazy but she keeps getting temporary positions. She’s in the accounting field and companies hire her to essentially “catch them up” but they say they can’t afford to hire her full time.

You make some great points and it makes sense…for the record I’m not against people having access to free healthcare, I’m just presenting BOTH sides of the situation (many hospitals are still private and can still go down like any other company if they can’t afford to stay afloat)…I think this is and will always be an emotional topic…

Your biggest problem getting the job right now is the fact that you don’t have a job right now. I know that sounds crazy but there is a lot of discrimination against the unemployed. Do you know anyone with a small business that would say you’ve been working for them on a “contract” basis so it doesn’t look like you’ve just been sitting around for 3yrs? Do some volunteer work and put that on your resume. Have you been going to school? emphasize that’s how you’ve spent the last 3yrs.
I know you haven’t been “just sitting around” but that’s how these so called “human resource” people see it. It’s easier to get a job if they think you already have a job. It’s a crazy world now. Education doesn’t mean anything experience doesn’t mean anything either.

The idea is that the entire time you are “at home” you need to be picking up new skills/certifications if possible.
If you know a 2nd ot 3rd language, you can get hired REALLY quickly in govt. Get a 2nd well-known language like Spanish and a 3rd lesser known like Farsi or something and you’ll be really marketable.
Yes I have heard some jobs will not hire you if you dont currently have a job…that makes no sense to me at all. Oh and the credit checks, I can see if you work in the financial field and may steal the company money but if I am not working with $ why do you need to check my credit. If I am not working and missed payments of course my credit is gonna be shot.
Let me chime in on this…its most definitely all about who you know…and how those that are “in the click” view you…because those that are connected can blackball you and you’ll never know what happened, all you’ll know is that you can’t catch a break/get ahead for whatever reason. I know from experience…I work in the gov and am a total outsider…I was actually hired by another outsider who a political appointee…well needless to say he wasnt here with me long. And since hes been gone, I’ve been fighting tooth and nail to prove that I’m worthy when in all actuality they already knew my worth…its just that I didnt know the right people, didnt sleep with the right people, I dont kiss enuf azz…its no longer about merit and what you know…its all about how good you can make them look…and the most important person to me is myself…I’m about getting me ahead…and that alone has gotten me nothing!!!! And the saddest thing is its black on black hatism!

Do you know anyone with a small business that would say you’ve been working for them on a “contract” basis so it doesn’t look like you’ve just been sitting around for 3yrs? Do some volunteer work and put that on your resume. Have you been going to school? emphasize that’s how you’ve spent the last 3yrs.
I know you haven’t been “just sitting around” but that’s how these so called “human resource” people see it. It’s easier to get a job if they think you already have a job. It’s a crazy world now. Education doesn’t mean anything experience doesn’t mean anything either.

I’ve been doing event and planning trips for friends on a pretty constant basis. I dressed that up and put that on my resume and to make it look like I havent just been sitting around. I had to put school on hold til next semester cause of my financial aid. I’ve looked for internships and have gotten nothing.

I can’t tell you how many jobs say “bilingual” preferred. We can debate all day about whether people should speak english or not but since folks need jobs now. being bilingual is a big advantage

This is true sh*t…which is why I just took a break from school…I have over 10 years of experience and still can’t catch a break with these folks…and I realized more education wouldn’t get me anywhere either…I either gotta spread my legs…or spread some cheeks and get to kissin…I choose neither which is why I’ve been the same grade for 4 years. Well if we had universal healthcare. Non profit hospitals would not have to right off so much indigent care from people who use the emergency room as their primary medical care. That’s one of the biggest threats to non profit hospitals as far as the bottom line.
Most of the time people won’t hire anyone out of work because they believe the individuals skill sets have decreased.
When interviewing and the question arises about what have you been doing since being unemployed. Try and let them know you’ve done some community work or attended a skill seminar’s and such.
The market is tough now definitely people mostly require degrees and skill set. Before interview you should read up on Recruitment strategies. When the interviewer starts speaking look for key words trust you will know what they are really looking for in a candidate.

Honestly Sandra – I would no more question your sexuality for showing compassion and empathy for the LGBT community than I would wonder if you too were homeless for bringing attention to the plight of the poor and downtrodden without a place to live.
Who are are and who you choose to love is a private, personal matter and it is up to you to let the world in. If you never revealed that about yourself, I would respect that and not feel the need to hassle you about it. Your life does not and should not affect what you do nor should it stop you from doing it. I support your decision to be open as much as I support someone like Anderson Cooper deciding to keep that part of his life discreet (it seems to be an open secret, but not up to me to make him say it out loud).

@Dougie, look at the Army Contracting Command National Capital Region, they have some open positions there now. My good friend is the director over there and he expects to be hiring a lot of people soon. Homeland Security always seems to have 13/14 positions available so I would check them out too.
I do agree that education doesnt mean anything anymore, I am getting my MBA as a personal goal to myself I always said I would get it, its people out here with PH.D with no job crazy. At my job its def who you know and you gotta work your azz off, I no nobody wants a slacker in their group but what they make you go through here is crazy, the interview process is unreal

Also check to see if your resume structure is outdated if so you may want to update.
Also when trying to advance its always nice to pick the person who has the power. Don’t waste your time on the people who can do nothing for you.

I will say you have to be a special tiype of person to be able to deal with the politics of it all…and I don’t think I’m that special. I ahve a very strong personality and I have an opinion…which are the two top things frowned upon in the fed gov. There’s maybe 2 people in my family who work in the gov…I’m jst cut from a diffrnt cloth…my mom does hair, and my dad was a barber…my granddad was a mechanic…I dont come from a long line of shmoozers and just don’t think that its something I know how to do well.

If you are in your late 30s or above and looking for work it also helps to try and look “young”. Assess your interview “look”. Try and look as fashion forward as you can without being inappropriate. Some people try to look as “professional” as possible but just end up looking old. There is a lot of age discrimination out there. I’m not saying look tacky or risque but a suit that is cut in a fly way or shoes with some flair show you are keeping up and that can translate into you also “keep up” in your field too. Cover that gray if you have any. Make sure your hairstyle is fashionable without being tacky or making you look older. Sometimes weaves and wigs make you look older too so be careful with those. Wear some spanx and try to lose some weight if you need to cause they discriminating against the overweight too. Men need to know these things too. A lot of them are walking around with grey beards and mustaches and don’t know why they can’t get hired. They look old. That’s why.
@Dougie…and you prolly workfor the type of person who can schmoozed…I work for a black woman who wishes she was as cute as me, wishes she was where I am at this point in my life, when she was my age, who doesn’t have any kids and despises the fact that I’m a mother, etc. I could go on and on…and these are speculations…she’s insinuated to all this and more to me and other black women in the office. Shmoozing can be done when you have someone open to being schmoozed…I dont have the correct “equipment” to get anything from her…and the way I look just may take away from some of her “equipment” (if I went like that) so there’s some personal issues there that I could never do anything about…the resolve to that is that some people shouldn’t be managers but who am I?!

Education does mean something. But I guess it depends on the field you work in. The federal govt is really getting hard on their reqirements. They seem hard pressed for advanced degeeres MBA and PHd’s. When I worked in the hospital/couseling side not alot of degrees weren’t needed unless you were a MSW or a Physican. However, I’m now on the IT side and great majority of thise folks have MBA’s and Phd’s. Everybody’s looking for Subject Matter Experts. Even for govt clerk jobs…They want to know if you are in Expert in Excel, Word and Powerpoint.

I hate to say it but I must because its another form of discrimination practiced. If you are out of shape start working out to trim up and tone up.
Use make up too but don’t over do it… It refreshes the look and state you take time in your appearance. You wont show up at work looking as if you just rolled out of bed

Don’t forget to followup with them after your interview. Even if they send you the “thanks but no thanks email” follow up, thanking them and asking to be considered for future positions.
in the initial stages of the interview process, keep those emails and phone numbers and call em back or email if you haven’t heard anything.
If you are working with your state unemployment office get your casworker to call them and try and and get feedback about why you weren’t hired. They aren’t gonna tell them anything but it scares the hail out of HR people especially when the reasons are discriminatory. All of a sudden you’ll start getting calls for second interviews and getting some job offers. That’s what I did when i was out of work.

Some employers are saying don’t EVEN apply if you aren’t currently working. Voluteering does wonders, I volunteer at the woomens shelter about once a month….Just because I did it back for one of my internships in college and found it to be rewarding. Additionally it’s a great way to meet business ownwers. Especially when they have open houses, etc….
@Cali…I JUST DID…thank the good Lord. Although its still within this agency, I think it’ll be a welcomed change until I can get out of here all together. This entire agency is full of drama but the black women here try to pull down the others when its not even necessary bcuz truthfully there’s enuf salary to go around…HELL…”they’re” all 13s, 14s, and 15s…we can get some of that too if we stick together and stop hatin so much…there’s strength in numbers!!!

@Les, oh wow, I worked for a female like that and I had to go. I couldn’t stand going to work and I cringed whenever I saw her car in the lot. Come to think of it, I worked with a female exactly like that about a year ago. She had all kinds of EEO and labor relations complaints against her. She moved over to DHS. I wonder…. I do hope you find another job soon.

I totally agree with your #278. My office is a WGN (White Girl Network), and every single one of them in here are 13-15. The lowest GS in this office are the 11s and 12s. But THEY stick together. Some of the Blacks in here have recently advanced to 13s/14s but if we all could stick together a bit more, we could have everybody in here at 13 or above because it IS possible.
@Cali…I’ve found that you can be a high school graduate, still wet behind the ears, and because your boyfriend’s mom is the chief of a division…you’ve come in as a GS 11, 12, or in some cases the 13 (I see it everyday at my agency…23 year old GS 12s with no prior experience and a SME at nothing) while those that have earned it, and taken enuf trainings and have enuf experience to be considered a SME get nothing just because they dont know the right person…there’s no justifyin that to me, I dont care how you try to slice it.

I know how you feel. It’s a 22 Year old in here who just came in at a 12, hasnt even finished her bachelor’s and used to work retail before this. But her chief…used to be her old manager at the retail store…soo…. yeah.
Another person in here came in at a 13 one year ago as a team lead and she used to work in a daycare center for almost 10 years. BUT her husband is bff’s with the AGENCY director. AGENCY. Ha!

So you did the best thing by moving to another agency. Sometimes a lateral move is better than no move at all.
I don’t like the government as a employment option. Mostly because the stipulate you can’t own a business. If it weren’t for private industry I never would have stepped outside my comfort zone and start my journey to self independence.

My friend is getting food stamps dont know why cuz her son is 20 hell if thats the case I got some nephews I can claim they over my h ouse all the time eating up my food lol.

If you had 7 different kids by 7 different men at least make one or two of them by a celebrity = instant financial upgrade (if he aint broke).
Its not about looking like a super model. When most people are depressed or desperate it shows. No one wants a debbie downer working for them.
I do long distant runs everyday because it gives me personal time with myself. Even a brisk walk for 1/2 a hour a day does the most for one spirit and it shows on the outside.
Don’t give up just continue to work on you. Honestly, you are blessed to have a supportive husband and children. Your going to school put you above many other people. You just have to believe and take the tips to better your self not to down yourself. Its the world and the way it operates. Infiltrate and assimilate until you alleviate and elevate.

#296…EXACTAMUNDO!!! They get to the GS-15 level or even SES and then sit around delegating all of their duties to the pion’s like me…while they plot on their next victim…and they’re paid big bucks to do what some of us would consider to be nothing!
