Kanye West’s clothing line bombs – and not in a good way

Musician-turned-fashion designer Kanye West had good reason to be a little nervous at the debut of his DW Ready to Wear Spring / Summer 2012 show during Paris Fashion Week on Saturday (Oct. 1) in Paris, France.

Barely minutes after his collection debuted at Lycee Henri IV, the national media and bloggers were already tearing it to shreds.

Forbes fashion critic Blue Carreon suggested that the collection consisted of “clothes for Kanye’s tribe”, adding that they were for “women who have to attend the Grammy awards in statement making clothes that reveal a lot of skin.”

“Next season Kanye should get a tailor so clothes might fit. Models swimming in some looks,” wrote the NY Times.

“Necklines plunged so precariously that they seemed a personal shout-out to J-Lo…there were lots and lots of tight leather pants,” wrote Heard On The Runway blog.

But one fashion critic, Lindsay Lohan, whose clothing line West once compared to “9/11 for celebrities doing fashion,” was more forgiving. She flew to Paris just to attend Kanye’s debut. LiLo sat in the front row and laughed all the way through the debut.

Daytime Disaster: Anderson Cooper almost gets a kid killed

Anderson Cooper’s daytime talk show is only 3 weeks old, but already the show, and its host, is mired in a PR disaster.

According to Gawker.com, a teenager is in a coma as a direct result of instructions given to him by one of the show’s producers.

Details are sketchy, but we hear the show booked a teenager to appear on a show about how the adolescent mind works. In advance of his appearance, a source says, a producer “encouraged [the] kid to go out and ‘film the crazy stuff you do.’” In the course of following those instructions, the teen filmed himself skateboarding adventurously and fell, sustaining a severe head injury. We are told he is comatose, and that Cooper is “distraught.” The show never aired.

At first Cooper was tightlipped about the whole accident. But on Monday he finally issued the following statement:

I was very saddened to hear the news of this accident, and want to express my deepest concerns for the teenager who was injured. I take this situation seriously, and my thoughts and prayers for his health, well-being and recovery are with him and his family.

Anderson’s producers were quick to add that they didn’t provide the teenager or his family with a camera. But they did encourage the boy to film the crazy stuff that he “normally” does. And it was probably understood by the teen that his daily routine had to be over-the-top in order to be included on the show.

fanMAIL from BK2ATLMAN (AKOO Brunch Winner)

Loyal reader BK2ATLMAN wrote in to let us know all about his experiences at T.I.’s “A King Of Oneself” Birthday Brunch on Sunday, October 2nd!

Hey Sandra.

I just wanted to thank you again for the tickets. It was a great event. Before I tell all the details, I also wanted to give a shout out to Hannah Kang, who welcomed me and my business partner, made sure we had our table and was just an overall great person. Cute smile too…

She even made sure T.I knew I was the winner and brought him to my table to chop it up a bit. Also it was recorded for his [reality] TV show.

The Good:

The place was beautiful, everything was setup perfect. There was an open Ciroc bar, so that was one of my best friends throughout the day. Can’t believe everyone was getting sauced that early in the day. The food was good, except for some egg seafood thing that just wasn’t the business. The chicken breast was the bomb, but after a couple bites it was done.

More Good:
My table was the bomb, on the left of me I had the A&R from badboy and on the right side of me I had Shawn Holiday from Interscope, who I already knew. I made tons of new connections and might have to cut you a check in the near future.. lol.

Not So Blind Item

The BET Hip Hop Awards took over Atlanta this past weekend, which means industry insiders were out in full force attending parties, getting drunk and spilling the teas. A working blogger could overhear a wealth of information, and gossip, especially when the loose lips don’t realize that a blogger is in the room.

One such conversation overheard at Frank Ski’s Restaurant and Lounge on Saturday piqued our interest. It seems that a certain national retail boutique chain, headquartered in California, has been hit repeatedly by boosters, aka shoplifters, over the years. And after having lost millions in merchandise to these self employed, five finger entrepreneurs, the store has beefed up its loss prevention staff.

One such staff member, a security specialist, told someone within earshot of us that they use a training video to educate their security personnel about the ways and methods of shoplifters.

Guess who’s all up in the training video boosting merchandise from the store on several different occasions?
