Jay Z Pulls Occupy T-Shirts from Rocawear Amid Criticism
Rap mogul Jay Z has come under heavy fire for attempting to profit off the Occupy Wall Street movement by selling ‘Occupy All Streets’ t-shirts on Rocawear.com without donating a portion of the proceeds back to the movement.
Jay Z quickly pulled the t-shirts from the website amid heavy criticism in the media.
The Occupy movement organizers say Jay Z is typical of the corporate greed that gave birth to the Occupy movement. Jay Z, Kanye West and Russell Simmons have been widely criticized for pretending to be supporters of the movement when they are really looking for ways to line their own pockets.
Before the t-shirts were pulled … TMZ spoke with Grim, one of the leaders of the Occupy movement, who told us, “Jay-Z, as talented as he is, has the political sensibility of a hood rat and is a scrotum. To attempt to profit off of the first important social moment of 50 years with an overpriced piece of cotton is an insult to the fight for economic civil rights known as #occupywallstreet.”

So the leader of the movement has time to address Jay-Z making T-shirts but can’t address the rapes and sexual assaults that are happening in the camp.

I just posted something on this on another site and to save time and keystrokes Imma just be lazy and cut and paste:
doubt the “leader” who made the statement is an actual leader based off the wording she used but I’m thinking they may be saying to donate time, food, things to be used as shelter, medical supplies,that sort of thing since money wouldn’t really help those out on the street although even speaking out publicly would help the cause. I honestly think it’s not so much about him/Rocawear giving funds as it is about them making the decision to create and sell shirts that will bring them a profit while not contributing anything to the cause they’re profiting from. The statement from the company wasn’t necessary imo and did nothing but create further controversy. A better pr statement would’ve stated that some proceeds from the sale of the shirts will be going to assisting the Occupy movement nationwide and then lead into how the company supports what those people are protesting for, blah, blah, blah. Something like that would’ve been better received and given them leeway to donate what they could, how they saw fit. Although I still think it’s tacky to attempt to make a profit off something like this but at least it would have been received better
This whole thing could’ve been avoided or at least handled in a way to make everyone look better and helpful. Now he looks like a selfish ass, the “leader” looks like an ignorant wannabe leader and whoever wrote the Rocawear statement looks like someone who should consider a different career where putting a positive thing on things isn’t a necessity and requirement. If you watched that Jimmy Fallon show you would know that’s when she performed in July, the same time she performed Best thing I never had in the white dress.
I was so shocked to hear Jay was selling those t-shirts with the disclaimer that no proceeds would go toward the movement. It was such a greedy opportunistic thing to do. Almost like the guys who stand on the street and sell bootleg t-shirts outside of concert venues. There was no way it was going to be worth the negative PR. Truly a dumb idea from a guy that I thought was smart.
I don’t know why he would even sell those shirts. I heard he wasn’t even going to give them a profit. Is that true?

Jay-Z was only out for a profit for himself! If he wasn’t there would’ve been a deal made to donate some of the money to the movement instead of the shirts being pulled.
