Maybe Soul legend Aretha Franklin reads my blog because she called off the wedding to her fiance Willie Wilkerson, according to published reports. And not a moment too soon.

Everyone knows Miss ReRe is not the best judge of character when it comes to smooth talking brothas. Had Ms. Franklin gone ahead and walked down the aisle with Mr. Wilkerson, he would have been ex-husband #4 for sure.

* “Will and I have decided we were moving a little too fast, and there were a number of things that had not been thought through thoroughly. There will be no wedding at this time,” Franklin said through her representatives. “We will not comment on it any further because of the very personal and sensitive nature of it. We appreciate all of the many well wishes from friends.” Source

I’m happy for her! She made a wise decision.

So many of us make the wrong decisions while under the giddy influences of Dopamine and Serotonin (brain chemicals that control pleasure and passion).

It’s funny how we can live our entire lives and never figure out that love and hot, sticky passion are mutually exclusive. We follow our hearts into the wrong relationships by not using our heads. And that’s why the divorce rate is over 70% in the black community.

I’m not saying don’t enjoy wet, sticky sex with your lover. I’m saying do not make any serious decisions while you’re in this stage of the relationship because this stage is not true love.

The only ones who seem to understand this concept are the strippers and gold diggers who never lose their heads when it comes to matters of the heart — or the wallet.

Good for Aretha!
