Superstar Mariah Carey greeted her fans outside the Dorchester Hotel in London, England Monday. Mariah wore a shimmering ankle length gown that hugged her ample curves.
Rapper/actor Andre Benjamin, aka Andre 3000, and actress Hayley Atwell on the film set of the Jimi Hendrix biopic All Is By My Side Monday. The scene being filmed depicted Andre and Hayley’s characters walking down the street and being stopped by policemen, followed by a verbal altercation and Hayley gesturing rudely toward the policemen as they fled.
Good Morning America anchor Robin Roberts recently announced that she has been diagnosed with myelodysplastic syndrome. Roberts appeared on set this morning sporting a violet elastic bandage on her left upper arm to cover her PICC line through which she receives intravenous chemotherapy treatments. The PICC line is a long intravenous tube that is threaded directly into a patient’s heart by a nurse or a doctor.
A national bone marrow donation registry says the rate of new registrants has more than doubled since Roberts announced her diagnosis. Roberts’ MDS was probably caused by radiation therapy that she received for breast cancer 5 years ago.
Reality TV cast members Mayte Garcia, left, Andrea Kelly, center, and Sheree Fletcher were spotted at NBC NY Live! studios where they talked about their new VH-1 reality show ‘Hollywood Exes’ on Monday. Mayte is the ex-wife of singer Prince; Kelly was married to pedophile R.Kelly, and Sheree is actor Will Smith’s ex-wife. ‘Hollywood Exes’ premiered Monday night. The show will air Wednesdays on VH1.

Many professional women who watch these shows talk about it in secret like it’s a meeting to discuss plans for the Underground Railroad. They are afraid of being judged, yet they still watch. They tune in to shake their heads and wring their hands, yet they still watch. They decry the negative influence that it has on young girls, yet they still watch. They bemoan the stereotypical imagery of black women, yet they still watch.
Controversy sells. And every single person who watches, regardless of intent, is plus-one in the ratings for VH1 — and incentive for advertisers to keep funneling money into the programs.
