When George Zimmerman’s wife, Shellie, lied to the judge during George’s bond hearing, she set the stage for her own possible arrest on perjury and contempt of court charges.

Now Zimmerman, who is charged with 2nd degree murder in the shooting death of 17-year-old Trayvon Martin, is back in jail after Circuit Judge Kenneth Lester revoked his bond on Friday for lying about his assets.

Shellie Zimmerman was under oath when she gave telephone testimony on April 20. She told Judge Lester that George was indigent and had no assets or money to pay his bond.

But bank records show that the day before the hearing, the Zimmermans were flushed with cash after collecting over $200,000 in public donations to his personal website.

According to a motion filed by prosecutors, George Zimmerman instructed his wife to “reset the password” on their PayPal account (probably to lock his attorneys out of the account), and to transfer the $155,000 into her credit union account.

Now Trayvon Martin supporters are calling for Shellie’s arrest on contempt of court and perjury charges (lying under oath is a federal offense).

If Mrs. Zimmerman were to be charged with perjury, “the question becomes a matter of how, if at all, she could explain her statements at the bond hearing,” Kendall Coffey, a former U.S. attorney for the Southern District of Florida, tells Grio.com.

Coffey says if State Attorney Angela Corey goes after Zimmerman’s wife it could backfire by turning public sentiment against the prosecutors.

“Some might say a loyal wife trying to protect her husband could be allowed some latitude, said Coffey. “But others would say it goes to the heart of the justice system,” that people cannot be allowed to mislead the court and get away with it.
