Monica Brown and Cissy Houston’s Emotional Tributes to Whitney
R&B Diva Monica Brown and Cissy Houston performed stirring tributes to the late Whitney Houston at the 2012 BET Awards that had everyone in tears at the Shrine auditorium in LA Sunday.
Mo performed Whitney’s song from The Preacher’s Wife, entitled “I Love the Lord”, and Whitney’s mother, Cissy Houston performed “Bridge Over Troubled Water”.
Mo shut down all her critics who said Brandy could sing better than her. Brandy’s weak performance had nothing on Monica when she sang a lackluster rendition of a Whitney classic.

Sissy, great performance, but I had time to leave the room, start a lod of clothes,put some in the dryer, fold some, and starch and press the other ones and still make it back in the room in time for the final note

Monica was great. Brandy, although I love her, was a lil extra last night and I wasn’t feeling her performance. Her voice was good but the performance itself seemed a little forced to be something she isn’t.
Cissy was strong to pull it together and perform like that. I cried. Her brother performing, well, I got up and left the room. I just couldn’t stand to see him for some reason. Maybe it’s because of his shady wife.
I actually thought the awards show was pretty okay. Compared to other years, yeah. I do need them not to write smart, disrespectful jokes for snotty nose kids and for them to work on the censoring. Say what you want about Beyonce, but she let them brats know she was there for shading a great. Lauryn Hill made ONE solo album that is still in heavy rotation. Meanwhile, Mindless Behavior will be checking coats next year at the awards show.
Ummmmmm, I think Brandy is a coke-head. I use to be a big fan of hers however something about her just isn’t right. I have always heard rumors from friends in the industry and I never believed them. Last night made me wonder. And did you guys peep that her booty looked a little larger than usual?

Why must it always be a competition b/t Monica and Brandy on here?? Monica did a slow gospel song, so of course it was more emotional. Brandy’s renditions were upbeat so the crowd could dance. I thought they both did good!! In general, though, I prefer Brandy!

The tribute was very emotional. Mo did a fantastic job as did Brandy. Listening to Miss Cissy made me think of how Whit could have retained her gift if not for that dang pipe. Cissy sounded so young. I didn’t see the show. I only watched a couple of performances this morning. Was Bobbi Kristina there? I didn’t see her.

This awards show lacked diversity in a major way. I’m speaking in terms of coverage and award recipients. (Ummm..yeah, Beyonce and Jay-Z)
Goodness let them breathe. I bet if BET stops licking azz, there are PLENTY of other talented artists.
BET is so biased, I predicted all of the winners pretty much by looking at “popularity” (except the one Wale won). Now that’s sad.

Monica did an awesome job….and Whitney’s mother has lost a ton of weight (I pray that all is well with her). Ummm, Brandy late a$$ could have stayed home (I wasn’t feeling her performance @ all). I love how Miss. Cissy took it home (to church, even having “rappers” crying). Folks better wake up (thinking it’s cute, being gone off of “Molly”). I believe Whitney sang background on the original as well, so I think the performance was appropriate, and Chaka looked good. I mean, that’s her personal style, and she rocks it well.
I always felt Monica was one of the few singers that could pull off a Whitney song. She did a great job. I was really bored with Brandy’s performance. I really wish she would step her hair game up. Overall the tribute was nice. Usually I’m disapointed in their tributes. It was good seeing Angela, Lela and Loretta. That was a nice touch. I see Lela has been eating good.

BRANDY did very well. Those were up tempo songs and her voice was on point even with the dancing. I wish Brandy would have done a slower song to knock Mo right out the park. Vocally Bran can sing too.
Brandy was better to me. Brandys tone and low register is just …amazing. If Monica tried to move even a little, she wouldn’t sound as good as Brandy.
