PICS: Celebs Hit the Carpet for ‘SPARKLE’ NY Premiere

Thanks to Saptosa Foster, of 135th Street Agency, who sent these pics from Tuesday’s SPARKLE premiere in New York City.

She writes: “Busy night in NYC last night! First, Tri Star Pictures hosted a red carpet screening of the upcoming ‘SPARKLE’ film at the Tribeca Grand Hotel in Soho. The cast was on hand: Jordin Sparks, Mike Epps, Carmen Ejogo, Derek Luke, Tika Sumpter, Omari Hardwick and executive producer Debra Martin Chase. A slew of celebrities hit the carpet as well: Russell Simmons, Gabby Sidibe, Olympic medalist Cullen Jones, Steven Baldwin, Valerie Simpson, June Ambrose, Rutina Wesley, S. Epatha Merkerson, Q Parker, Adrienne Bailon, and pop/R&B newcomer Austin Brown.”

Continued:

“And speaking of Austin Brown, the “Backpack Kids” singer (who’s the son of Rebbie Jackson and managed by Jermaine Dupri) took the stage at Santos Party House after the ‘SPARKLE’ premiere to perform his single “Menage a Trois” at the BET Music Matters Showcase. Attendees such as Angela Simmons, BET music exec Kelly G and Sister 2 Sister’s Jamie Foster Brown were on hand to check out the emerging artist. For more on Austin Brown, visit www.austinbrown.com.

‘SPARKLE’ opens nationwide on August 17 – www.sparkle-movie.com”

Oh, not going to see the movie. Just seem low-budget. Still haven’t seen the first, but we need to stop remaking movies and create original ones.

Okay why is FAB’s side piece still relevant – Cheetah Girls and that other group she was in was like 50 years ago. I see the Angela/Romeo dry hump romance is over and I was thinking about calling in sick to catch the matinee of Sparkle, just in case its not worth more than $5

@ lovezoe: You’re not going to support a black movie when it is so difficult for black actors to get roles in Hollywood? This is why we will always lose, because we refuse to support each other.

Three words come to mind when I look at Grabster:

    FAT, BLACK, GREASY!

Someone, please tell her…I am not self-hating but this is a horrible, horrible image for young Black girls. Her image is so unfair. I may be wrong but…D*MN!

How is talmbout her shade not derogatory?

Talk about these wack wrappers and reality hoes that the young ladies look up to more than Gabby. IMO of course :coffee:

    DoNotDeleteMe says:

    @yallcrazy:

I go in on everyone who is ratched. I am not going to feel sorry for Grabster because she is projecting that ratched image. She looks horrible and that is that! No sympathy. We cannot stand behind her and make her think that her image is ok because it is not.

  43. 43
    gypsyeyes says:

Who are her people to co sign this? What about health factors? When a celebrity is super skinny there is all kinds of backlash but Gabby is supposed to embrace herself. No people, she is too young to carry that weight.

I hear you, believe me I do. But if the objective is one thing, the delivery should different IMO.

Your term “fat, black, and greasy” doesn’t allow your real message to get through.

Again I agree that she needs help, I’d just phrase it differently so that it doesn’t come across as hateful. :coffee:

Ummmm, Auntie with the exception of Mike Epps and Gabby, I don’t see any “celebrities”. I love Gabby and I think she’s an awesome actress, but why do they insist on putting mauve colored make up on her? I just HATE that. I really think I’m going to pass on Sparkle…….

I’m going to have to disagree, I didn’t go see Who’s Your Caddy, Snakes on Plane and NOTHING Madea related in the last 5 years. Just because it’s a “black cast” doesn’t mean it’s worthy of going to see. Maybe if (blacks) would come out with decent screen plays, which resulted into films, than I would support. @ the end of the day, we need to start doing BETTER. So sick of the “reality” television shows where they make (or rather, we) make ourselves look like fools, self hate @ it’s best!! Very sad, but true.

    That is all….
