Congrats To Courtney Pearson! First black Homecoming Queen at Univ. Of Mississippi

Times have certainly changed! First America elects a half black man as president of the United States, and now a black woman has been chosen Homecoming Queen at the University of Mississippi!

“I am still in shock, but I am definitely very excited,” said Courtney Pearson, a 21 yr. old senior English secondary education major. Ole Miss has a long history of racism on its storied campus, where students still proudly affix confederate flag stickers to their bumpers.

2 years ago riots erupted on the Ole Miss campus “over student led actions to remove traditions associated with the Confederacy and segregation (source).”

But racism was not a factor in Pearson’s decision to run for homecoming queen. “It couldn’t have come at a better time. Ole Miss, get ready. We just changed the face,” said Pearson.

There are so many places in the South that are like this. Remember in Alabama they just had an intergrated prom, those kids did a black prom and a white prom every year. I was shocked when I first went to Miami back in 95. All those different races just blending together was odd to me. Although I would see it on TV. Some things here are still seperate, and really not by law. We are just use to living a certain way, that we dont really notice it as being seperate. Just recently they let artist curse while performing shows at our Arena. It has to be a certain amount of curse words though.

Hello, first of all, she is a pretty young woman but a very over weight young woman and according to most newspapers, the few that actually covered this story, and blogs, it may have been a joke. (take a look at prior queens, all white and skinny) About her weight, our young folks are in BIG trouble, literally. Look around you, most are extremely overweight and I’m not talking bout 15 or 20 lbs, I’m talking bout at least 50 or more, and getting bigger. The other day, I saw a FB pic of 10 female college classmates in the early 70s and NOT ONE was overweight, not to mention obese, NOT ONE! Today, at least half would be obese. The food, the environment, the physical activity, what is it? Black girls don’t want mess up their hair and nails? WHAT? With our weight debt and financial debt, this country is in big, big trouble if we don’t address both now. Did I hurt someone’s feelings? Then don’t wear them on your sleeve. For your health, for Christ sake, lose some weight, before you get sick at a young age with diabetes and high blood pressure. These. 2 diseases CAN be prevented. One last thing, IMO, NO YOUNG WOMAN should weigh over 200 lbs unless she’s 6 ft tall! IMO. Besides, I’m old as hell to most on here, except maybe Sandra, and I’ve earned my chance to speak my mind. IMO. Peaceeeeee.
