Justin Timberlake’s “Suit and Tie” Single Sales Fizzle; ‘Blame Jay Z,’ Says Music Critic
Justin Timberlake’s entertainment woes continue. The former N’Sync lead singer-turned-actor hasn’t had a hit movie in his acting career, and now his first single in 6 years is a flop.
Music critics believe Timerlake underestimated his audience by asking aging rapper Jay Z to hop on “Suit and Tie”.
“Suit and Tie” is “ruined by Jay Z’s rap plopped into the middle of the song for no reason,” writes Roger Friedman on his Showbiz411 blog.
“Jay Z is fine if you like him, but Timberlake fans don’t want him popping up on records willy-nilly.”
Friedman continues: “The single is great, and so is the video,” says Friedman. “But after a flurry of initial interest and sales, ‘Suit and Tie’ has struggled on all charts. It’s dropped to number 9 already on iTunes, and number 13 on amazon.com. It’s only been 10 days.”
Friedman goes on to note that “the top pop station in the US, Z-100, lists ‘Suit and Tie’ at number 20 of its most popular records this week. And in morning drive, ‘Suit and Tie’ is simply not in the rotation of the last 10 records played.”
This news doesn’t bode well for the former pop idol who needs a strong single to kick start his album sales.
Timberlake’s age is also a factor, according to Friedman (Timberlake is 31, Jay Z is 45).
Friedman believes “Suit and Tie” is already “too sophisticated for the dumbed down audience of today.”
“You think of JT as a kid, but Lady Gaga and Adele are six years younger than him,” he writes.

It’s official! Singers Angie Stone & LaTocha Scott will be bringing their lives to the new season of “R&B Divas” in Atlanta. Network sources have exclusively confirmed that TVOne’s hit show “R&B Divas” has two new cast members that can bring it in the talent..and drama…departments.
It was previously reported that Angie would joining the cast of ladies (including Syleena Johnson, Faith Evans, Monifa, Nicci Gilert & KeKe Wyatt). But the second addition has been confirmed as former Xscape member LaTocha Scott.
Filming for Season 2 has already begun with Angie performing at the 2012 Soul Train Awards and LaTocha popping up on the red carpet of the 2013 Trumpet Awards.
What are we looking forward to? Well, Angie is the mother of singer D’Angelo’s child. And they had a long term relationship before he blew up in the industry. And since we still harbor our crush on the mysterious sexiness that is D’Angelo…we’re just hoping to get a little tea on that.
As for LaTocha, her baby’s daddy is her manager. That’s drama in itself. And now that she’s working on her own new music, we’re hoping she spills some secrets about former Xscape members Tiny & Kandi Burruss that we don’t already know.

About 10 years ago I got laid off (downsized) as a medical/coding billing office manager… HUNTY i was SO MAD at them crackers (they only laid me the other black girl and the hispanic girl off!!!) I went on to get a masters degree and went into a WHOLE NOTHER LEVEL of my field and work for the government in my CUSHY OFFICE !!!! sometimes we are FORCED to move out a comfortable situations that opens a WHOLE OTHER WORLD of possibilities keep your head up and find something else God will make a way

I worked for a medical insurance company from 19 to 30 then got laid off. I went back to school for HIM since that’s what I had so much experience in. Started my current job still doing medical coding then last year got promoted to another area doing something brand new. Swithced majors in school, still keeping on…had I not been laid off I would’ve never went back to school. Blessings come in different shapes and forms. We just need to make sure we don’t miss out cause it may not be wrapped in the paper we want. Everything happens for a reason and God still sits high and looks low

well, the music business has changed. Think about it; these singers of today want to do music, act, sell clothes and everything else. It’s too much. People simply aren’t buying music like that anymore..cd’s that is. These big budget acts just aren’t exciting any more than the new acts. How many of us are still listening to old music? I’m not sure why Justin and Jay-Z dont get that kids who will buy cd’s dont want to see their moms and dads on tv. That is how they look at anyone 30+. And those 30+ are less likely to buy millions of cds.
I dont think the music industry will ever be what it once was. Hell I can put out a song on Itunes or the net just like a big budget artist can. Tell me again what’s the point of having millions of followers when not even a third of them ever buys your product?

@lexdiamonz – actually I came out of that field. I got my CPC and started with the additional courses but now I’m actually in procurement. It’s a lot of freedom in the HIM field and one can make a really nice living.
