Quvenzhané Wallis accepts the Best Young Actor/Actress Award with iPhone
Actress Quvenzhané Wallis, 9, accepts the Best Young Actor/Actress Award for her breakout role as “Hush Puppy” in “Beasts of the Southern Wild” at the 18th Annual Critics’ Choice Movie Awards held at Barker Hangar on Thursday (January 10) in Santa Monica, California.
Wallis, nicknamed Nazie, is the 2nd youngest Oscar nominee ever — Justin Henry was nominated for best supporting actor in 1979′s ‘Kramer vs. Kramer’ at age 8. The youngest Oscar winner is Tatum O’Neal, who was 10 when she won best supporting actress for Paper Moon (1973).

I fought hand over fists to get tix to see this movie in its limited release last summer. At 5 years old this kid conveyed emotion and delivered lines like a true pro. This movie is a must see and a fictionalized interpretation about a people/lifestyle that still happens in many of our forgotten and poverty stricken areas. SO PROUD OF THIS YOUNG LADY and glad that the world will finally get to see HUSPUPPY now in her debut of Beasts Of A Southern Wild!!! Great moment for our young black youth!!!

So happy for her. I watched clips from the movie and she’s really good. For someone so young she speaks very well.
Qulyndreia is her momma name and Venjie is her dad…so if I had a gripe about this baby name I would honestly start with her grandparents.
I dont have one though. Qway-ven-za-nay is how I think its supposed to be pronounced. We gonna call this baby Quay and wish her her luck now.
She IS adorable. I heard them announce this award last night…and eh’…Well??? She accepted her award with an Iphone. I really do wish she would have just stood there, with her young and poised self, and given a more personal acceptance speech like we’ve seen other kids do in the past, but she probably has been waiting to read from her phone like all the other celebrities.
Her use of the iPhone is very reminiscent of Keri Hilson at the Soul Train awards a couple of years back. Everybody was like “For why?” But, then again, I’ve never had to go on a stage in front of thousands, to accept an award either.
At least her parents had a purpose for naming her as such. it’s really pretty when you sound it all the way out. Can’t wait to see her performance in the movie.

So I watched Django Unchained this weekend…Not a movie I’d go see in a movie theatre..which is why I watched it in the comfort of my own home. The “n” word was used entirely too much….but other than that I thought it was good. I recall someone saying they had rape scenes with Kerry Washington…idk which version I watched, but it didnt have any in it and I think that was a good thing.
The scene with the KKK was hilarious though

Anyway at one time the censors were off on TV shows like Girl friends which I am sure I heard the use of the N word on that show too. Spike Lee is just mad that he didn’t come up with the concept of the movie. I am sure Jamie Fox would have had a problem with the script if it was too much for him. Another movie that had lots of N words used was Mississippi burning

I don’t know/think there are “other” versions of the movie (as of yet). I LOVED the movie. The “nigga” used too many times didn’t move me to be

His full name is Quentin Jerome Tarantino! That is the BLACKEST name I can think of for the era in which he was born!
Also, his stepfather was Black. I don’t think he has a problem with Blacks and that he is very fascinated with Blacks in general (just like a lot of other cultures). The one part of the movie that was very poignant was when one of the characters asked: WHY DON’T THEY FIGHT BACK?
That really made me pause and think: Here you have these very strong Black males and those lanky, ugly, smelly White overseers along with fat masters…there was no doubt who had the upperhand physically. I think that a lot of the slaves, regardless of their physical prowess, were mentally defeated.

that’s the point of it all. take away the will and the rest just falls. the things they could do to you, legally, just wasn’t worth the risk probably. if you tried and failed, they could take your child or your man or your woman and break your spirit. i often think i would have just committed suicide and if someone took my child! i would go clean the hell off.

Bedazzled i read the script for Django and its a number of scenes that they took out. the rape scene was one of them but i dont even think they filmed that. He said he didnt want the movie to get dark to the point where at the end you wasnt cheering for Django. i think he accomplished that pretty well as everything they cut was basically really violent scenes, but i know they filmed some of them and i think he will do a directors cut. Also the movie was set during slavery what else do you expect them to call black people other than what they really called them during the times?
