Daniel Villasenor choked girl for laughing at him

A California mailman was arrested and charged with assault after he brutally choked an 11-year-old girl for laughing at him when he accidentally entered the women’s restroom at a park.

Daniel Villasenor, 55, allegedly asked a girl for directions to the men’s room at the park, according to local ABC affiliate KABC via the L.A. County Sheriff’s Department. Following the directions, the man walked into the women’s room.

The girl and a friend started laughing. They were still laughing when Villasenor exited the restroom.

Witnesses say the uniformed mailman chased one of the girls and grabbed her by her neck, choking her.

The unidentified victim’s friend ran screaming for help, alerting nearby city workers who witnessed Villasenor abusing the child.

“He got angry and pushed the 11-year-old child, and then grabbed her by the neck and the collar in what appeared to be a choking motion to the witnesses,” L.A. County Sheriff’s Sgt. Dan Scott told KABC.

Villasenor was arrested later as he made his mail rounds in the neighborhood.

Villasenor was charged with cruelty to a child and assault on park property, KABC reports. He pleaded not guilty Wednesday, and is being held on $15,000 bond. His next court appearance is on March 5.

A postal official released a statement to the media: “The employee has been placed in an emergency non-duty, non-pay status. The incident is also being investigated by the U.S. Postal Inspection Service.”

Villasenor faces up to a year in jail if convicted.
