Catherine Zeta-Jones and Michael Douglas split

Catherine Zeta-Jones, 43, and Michael Douglas, 68, have called it quits after 13 years and two children together.

The Hollywood power couple’s rep confirmed the split to In Touch Weekly. The writing was on the wall after Jones checked herself into a facility for treatment of bipolar disorder. At the time, Douglas described Zeta-Jones’s admission to the facility as “a 10,000 mile check-up.”

Zeta-Jones revealed her diagnosis exclusively to People magazine in July 2011.

From In Touch:

One of Hollywood’s longest standing couples, Michael Douglas and Catherine Zeta-Jones, have announced their plans to separate after 13 years of marriage.

“Catherine and Michael are taking some time apart to evaluate and work on their marriage,” a rep for the couple told In Touch.

Although this isn’t the first hardship that the couple has faced together; in 2010, he was diagnosed with throat cancer, for which he underwent chemotherapy and ultimately beat it.

The 43-year-old mother of two has also been actively receiving treatment for bipolar disorder; she first checked into a healthcare facility in 2011, and most recently this past April.
