When music producer Kanye West directed a Twitter rant at late night TV host Jimmy Kimmel for mocking him, many astute observers knew it was just another publicity stunt orchestrated by Kimmel. Kanye returned the favor by making an appearance on the comedian’s talk show ‘Jimmy Kimmel Live’ on Wednesday.
Kanye was the only guest on Kimmel’s hour long show.
As planned, Kanye brought along his reality show baby mama Kim Kardashian and their daughter, North West. The odd couple arrived at the studio in Hollywood, California accompanied by a small army of bodyguards. Kim concealed North West under a blanket so no photographers could get pictures. It didn’t matter; there were scant few paparazzi present compared with the hoards that usually trailed Kim in the past.
Word has it that E! is contemplating canceling reality show Keeping Up With The Kardashians due to poor TV ratings. The show has simply become too expensive for the network to produce.
Thanks to blogger and radio jock Miss Info for doing all the heavy lifting and compiling the transcript and videos of the interview.
Kanye reacts to talk his feud with Kimmel was a publicity stunt:
“I’ve never done a publicity stunt in my life… I don’t follow rules of normal celebrity.”
Kanye on his public image:
“I’m not running for office. You know what I’m saying? I’m just here to make good music, make people feel good when they hear my music. And you know, when I did that interview, I was really vocal about a lot of things I had been dealing with over the past 10 years when I was putting in the classification of ‘just a celebrity’ because for me, you know, I’m a creative genius and there’s no other way to word it. I know you’re not supposed to say that about yourself, and I say things the wrong way a lot of times, but my intention is always positive.”
On plenty of people who call themselves geniuses:
“For me to say I wasn’t a genius I would just be lying to you and myself.”
Kim Kardashian getting rejected by the Hollywood’s Walk of Fame committee:
“People are so, so dated…there’s no way a Kim Kardashian shouldn’t have a star on the Walk of Fame.”
On the struggles in creative fields, and past issues coming up in Chicago:
“There’s no black guy at the end of the runway in Paris. All we wanna do is make awesome stuff. I refuse to follow those rules that society has set up and the way that they can control people with low self-esteem… It’s about truth, it’s about information, it’s about awesomeness, and the only luxury is time.
It’s not about racism anymore. It’s classism………I’m not into all that snobbery.
Creatives have gotten beat up my entire life. There’s moments when I stood up to drug dealers in Chicago and said ‘you can’t have my publishing, come and kill me.’”
The paparazzi invading his privacy:
“We bring something of joy to the world. When people listen to my music, they have a good time, and I should be respected as such when I walk down the street…Don’t try and antagonize me because you know what? It’s not safe for you in this zoo. Never think that I’m not from Chicago for one second,” but also: “You do help me get money, paparrazzi. You show people how fresh my outfit is.”
