NY Post Alex Rodriguez

There are unconfirmed reports that Barney’s NY plans to donate 100 percent of the proceeds from the Barney’s/Jay Z Collection collaboration to the Shawn Carter Foundation. Barney’s paid an insane amount of money to place banner and tower ads prominently on the front page of the NY Post to make sure you know the truth.

The ad copy reads in part: “BARNEY’S NY WILL DONATE 10% OF SALES FROM ALL FLAGSHIP STORES AND BARNEYS.COM TO THE SHAWN CARTER FOUNDATION.”

Ironically, Barney’s paid more money for the ads than they will in donations to Jay Z’s “charity” foundation.

Barney’s also made sure to mention that the retailer’s collaboration with Jay Z is a limited (short) one. Barney’s recently caught flack for two racial profiling incidents involving young black consumers at their NY location. A private bash celebrating the Nov. 20 launch of the holiday event with Jay Z was canceled.

The high end retailer was forced to scramble their jets to control the damage stemming from the racial profiling allegations. I bet Barney’s can’t wait to wash their hands of Jay Z for good.

Thanks to loyal reader Ernest O. for the tip.
