Singer and former Disney star Zendaya Coleman, 17, was cast in the coveted role of deceased hip hop star Aaliyah in an upcoming Lifetime biopic on the star's life and death. But the TV movie will never see the light of day if Aaliyah's family gets their way.
Gossip tabloid TMZ spoke with Aaliyah's uncle and former manager, Barry Hankerson, who said the family is pissed that no one from the network contacted them about the TV movie.
Hankerson says the family will block any attempt on Lifetime's part to use any of Aaliyah's music. He says the family has hired a lawyer and will do everything they can to block release of the flick.
The family is not opposed to a big, theatrical film, but thinks a TV movie is too small for someone as big as Aaliyah. Source
Lifetime is expected to start filming this summer. Aaliyah died in a plane crash in 2001.
