Cam Newton injures himself in car accident

Panthers quarterback Cam Newton was injured when his truck flipped and rolled over in a suburb of Charlotte, NC, Tuesday. The Charlotte Observer reports that Newton was able to communicate with paramedics at the scene.

UPDATE: The Associated Press reports Newton fractured bones in his lower back during the rollover.

Update II: NBC Sports reports Newton suffered two transverse process fractures in his back. Transverse processes are the small bones that protrude from either side of the vertebrae. Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo suffered the same injury this season. He was out one game.

Newton will be hospitalized overnight for observation.

Friend of the blog, rap mogul Tip “T.I.” Harris, lives in a gated subdivision in a moneyed enclave of Jonesboro, Georgia, just south of Atlanta. For extra added security T.I. also erected a gate around his mansion. It’s a good thing he did, because his crazed fans in Atlanta don’t respect his family’s privacy.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge meet LeBron James

After leading the Cleveland Cavaliers to a 110-88 win over the hapless Brooklyn Nets, LeBron “King” James quickly showered before holding court with The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, Prince William and Kate Middleton, at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York on Monday. LeBron presented the prince with replicas of Cavaliers jerseys for himself and his son Prince George. LeBron and Brooklyn Nets center Kevin Garnett were the only NBA players on the short list to meet the Royals after the game.

In 2005, the NBA implemented a strict dress code to combat image problems caused by young black players wearing hip hop attire popularized by street dealers and rap stars. The dress code called for NBA players to wear “business casual” attire before and after NBA games — even if a player was sitting on the bench.

But before last night’s Cavaliers vs Brooklyn Nets game at the Barclays Center, Cleveland Cavaliers stars LeBron James and Kyrie Irving, as well as members of the Brooklyn Nets, donned black t-shirts bearing the words “I can’t breathe,” to support the family of Eric Garner who was suffocated by a NYPD police officer.

Stephanie Moseley Earl Hayes

LAPD homicide detectives say “Hit the Floor” actress-dancer Stephanie Moseley was shot multiple times by her rapper husband, Earl Hayes, who then turned the gun on himself in an apparent murder-suicide early Monday. A SWAT team found their bodies inside a locked bedroom at the high end Palazzo East apartments next-door to The Grove in Los Angeles.
