Sorority Sisters

Critics of VH1's controversial reality TV series 'Sorority Sisters' may have won a victory thanks to their grass roots online campaign to target VH1's advertisers.

About 50 advertisers pulled their ads from 'Sorority Sisters' after fielding complaints from angry sorors nationwide who strongly disapprove of the show's negative portrayal of sororities.

Now comes word that the show is cancelled.

From Rhymeswithsnitch.com:

While there has been no official announcement the latest television schedule shows the final three episodes will all air on Friday January 16th in one block and there's no West Coast airing scheduled at all.

The funeral service for Sorority Sisters begins at 11pm Friday on VH1 with a repast on Twitter following the final episode sometime after midnight.

Footnote: After I published my post titled Everybody Hates VH1's Sorority Sisters, someone from Mona Scott-Young's camp reached out via email to vigorously deny Mona's involvement in the series. Even Mona knows better than to mess with the sorors.

Sorors was reaaaal mad that their petty ways were put on full display nationally huh? I guess the "fight" was worth it huh?

I think VH1 was just tired of the bullshyt with the petitions and felt they could exploit something else without all the backlash.

Yes having a college degree doesn't make you smarter than someone who doesn't have one, but the benefits outweigh the cons, especially if you life inn a poor neighborhood. No one with a higher education has ever said I wish I never received that degree.

@Dub, I luvs you but that Steve Jobs, Billy Gates, Mark Z, Koby B, Beyonce, Rhianna, etc agreement is null. Those people have talent. They spent countless hours practicing, building, petfectibg their talent. They also had family with money or connections that placed them in the right places to be where they are now. We all know Poochie Darionus T''shaqu-ah & em won't ever get those chances.

My only comment on educated vs non educated.

All the negative images that these shows continue to foster about black women in general and, the loyalty, the movement to shut them down came after they dared to tarnish the sisterhood of your sorors... but nothing regarding the SISTAhood in general yet....?

The problem is that people equate getting a job with getting a degree. You go to college to learn, not to get a job. Somewhere this message got diluted with the American Dream. Me deciding to leave and go to college was the difference in staying in the hood and becoming a statistics or leaving and seeing the world. It took me out of poverty.

They upheld none of the principals we were founded on and strive for today. Now why did they act that way? because every group has them... the people who just wanna be famous .. or they are ratchet.... and they are human. women... which circles back to my orginal point. they are women who joined a sorority. you cannot control that. but if you pay your dues or are a part of an organization that organization has a right to speak out if you are not representing it right. people speak out about other shows all the time. but can you take someone's woman membership card?

I think what really bothered most people is that they went on the show as a representative of the sorority as a whole (based on how it is promoted and the name) and not as a representative of themselves.

@Misunderstood I love you too. But my problem was let's not make a mockery of those who DID make it to college, but maybe for whatever reason, did not make it out. No matter if they stayed for 4 semesters or 4 years. The bottom line is Poochie Darionus, as you said, MADE it there period, is a feat in itself. THAT is what I said. In addition to, I also said, a degree if you have one, it makes most folks. Yes everyone who has one, it enriches them in some way. It doesn't matter to others. Everything is not for everyone. Everyone is not ABLE to see a 4y degree through. If they were, there wouldn't be trade schools, tech schools, Job Corps, etc. Their walk in life is just THAT. Their own personal walk.

I neva said Dubb said that. I said I disagreed with what dubb said.

@CandyCane, that was a bit harsh. Not everyone could afford going to college or had the encouragement to.

@Bird Will Smith neva rapped about f'ing weed or other BS. He was a clean rapper & that's frowned upon. But he had talent & opportunity to become a successful actor later on. As for his kids, unfortunately their parents income will enable them to never understanding how wrong that thought is.

I listened to that Claudia interview and damn she went in  but lets be real here.

When you on a show radio/tv, everyone goes for the jugular whether it was brought on by that person or just random. I don't know Tiny but she seems like a sweet person. Is her face unfortunate sometimes? Fukk yes. But she is a sweet person from what it seems and she don't deserve all that. Prolly why she done changed her eye color n shyt. Trying to fight that ugly label.

But Claudia ain't no different. Everyone has flaws. That there interview was YEARS AGO. YEARS. She should NOT be given hate for it now. That's stupid. She apologized for it and that's that. What they want Claudia to do, kill herself?! Come on now.

The Managers at service places. The waiting lists at tech schools for folks to get re-trained, or for an inital skill, are at an all time high here in the south. Keep doing you.

That's my problem with this whole situation. Several of the ladies on the show were struggling financially. Their sorors didn't give a damn about that. All they cared about was the image of the sorority. Reminds me of these trifling a$$ churches. For the hundreth time, this show was not your usual ratchet reality show. All of the cast members were educated and the extent of their ratchetness was made up bougie pettiness. I don't think the greeks needed to be ashamed of it. What they should be ashamed of is that they sold their sorors a pipe dream about networking and opportunities yet these sistas are out in these streets struggling.

 that's why I said I'm glad she apologized, because really there's nothing else she CAN do...she can't go back in time and undo it, and like you said, the mood of the room was ignant...a bunch of comedians talking chit, so she wanted to find her niche among the conversation...that's why Jamie kept it light the whole time bc he understood what was going on...

it wasn't cool, but she's trying to make it right now...

    • Vanna is the root of all evil

MY point exactly. If Tiny saw fit to tweet about it and was upset then SHE had just found out about it and THEN Claudia went and apologized privately… then she had to say something on air to appease the masses cause she is on RHOA. And there are folks saying this is sad folks digging up her past now because she went in on Nene and it is unfair :stop: She enjoyed and relished going in on that lady. She still goes in on people on the radio and on the show. What’s different?

      ---
I heard that this morning. I was like  bc I'm like tiny ain't thinking bout u. She signed off on yo azz to work when she had her late night show. Now why would tiny be concerned about a broke bish like u going in??? Tiny probably was  at her bum azz bc claudia said she was having financial problems. Kudos to tiny for taking the higher road and giving her a job thus providing her other opportunities. And Ricky on there feeling sorry for her. Claudia talking bout I'm not like that no more. If I offended anybody I'm sorry. I didn't mean it like that. Its just that sometimes folks who didn't get the education try to knock folks that did. With comments like my bank account this, and I didn't go to school. That's good for them, but the experiences I had (especially in undergrad) will always be with me. If I had my way I'd be in school forever. I just love learning. No harm, no foul

    • bama_n_jersey

@Bird...you can't say the sorority didn't help them though. All of the programs we have in place to help people....maybe the people they were around were not the people to help them, but to say the sorority didn't help them is a bit much IMO. but hey whadda I know?

      @Blanche,

Let me say this specifically to you. I COMMEND YOU for several reasons. First, for knowing your boundaries regarding your health. Secondly, for going to better yourself. You cbose not to feel sorry for yourself and did this while being a FULL TIME mom. That alone is an accomplishment.

What I challenge you to do is to re examine how you view your families perspective. Until they take a quarter of a mile of a walk in your shoes, they can't begin to understand your struggles. I applaud you for being honest with yourself and educating us, because it may be someone out there going thru the same. You do what is best for BLANCHE, and don't pay attention to those who aren't supportive or send negative energy your way.

      -----------------
Thanks for the clarification :hugs: this could be said about a lot of organizations and groups. people question the relevance of the NAACP, HBCUs, politicians. So I get it. as a whole we have fallen off. just because that is the case I do not think that we should ignore when people are not acting in accordance with the principles for the organization for which they chose to become a part of. As for what did they do that was so bad... what did they do that was good? positive? uphold the ideals of the org? nothing. there are private truths that we agree to. a higher standard when you are wearing the letters of our organization. and since you appeared on a show under the SOLE PREMISE of being in a sorority everything you are doing is a refection. You are essentially using the name of the organization for shine. they have a right to be like :stop: nah I don't like that.

I am sorry but I have to say one thing.... There are a lot of people here talking about education. However, the grammar being used here and the fact that it is seen as funny or the norm is astounding. I understand that some things are funny when said in broken English, but our ancestors are turning over in their graves at the way we throw away grammatically correct english in favor of humor. If you know better, do better. Sandra never uses broken English while making a point... Why should we? The ebonics and broken English on this blog is sometimes downright embarrassing. I'm not pointing a finger at any one person I'm just speaking truth. Why can't we get our points across like the educated men and women we are??????????????

Commenting on Nene's cancelled gigs when she's been cancelled from being bitch #4 holding a briefcase on Deal or No Deal, hand waving wheel spinning Price is Right bitch, and bitch on The Apprentice. The comments about dark people she made were all good (until she got caught out there) but someone calling her a half breed was wrong. Now this Tiny situation...
