I've been natural abt 6 years now and can never go back to a perm. it was thinning my hair out so I just did the big chop and wore weaves til it got some good length to it. I wear it out sometimes but it's hot and big, so I keep it up most of the time.

a few of my friends have just for me's but i'm scared it may cause excessive shedding for me.

I wanted a perm last year, went to my salon and told them I wanted one and they refused to do it Talked me in to keeping my hair as is and just getting a wash and set when I want it straight. I have to wash my hair a lot so straight never lasts long for me but if it was relaxed I'd be good. I'm considering going to a different salon to do it.

@Whitty Just For Me is the same. They say it's less harsh, blah, blah.... Same shyt. I used to use that when I wore short cuts..

When I used to relax I got so tired if that flat arse hair! Having to wait for two to three washes for it to get full. And my hair is thick, fine but thick., So then I started texlaxing which I liked. I was able to wear wash and go's, and still rollerset (had to flat iron afterwards) but it was cool. But after a while I just got so freaking tired of mixing and smelling. Holding my airs up and chit, plus I only relaxed at the most three to four times a year. I was over it. So I just went to the salon and got a cute cut, and never relaxed again. it will be a year next month. Now I rock a taper/undercut and I lovessss it!

Really? I hear people say that a lot but my daughters get them on a regular basis and their hair is healthy and growing fast. Dragon10 has a coarser texture and slower growth rate than her sister and I and you can see the biggest positive difference with her.

I don't get blowouts. my natcha stylist says it's too harsh on the hair. she sits me under the dryer with big rollers in it to straighten it some, then finishes off with the flat iron or big curling iron. I've seen the bad results of regular/frequent Dominican blowouts and it ain't pretty. try the whip and/or pure Jamaican black castor oil, and that should bring it back to a healthy state.

that's heat damage. they fry the shat out of your hair to get it straight. though most thing it's irreversible, it can be repaired. the bonds have been broken, & it will take time but it can be reversed

Wayyyyy too much heat. I can't. I did it twice, thought my scalp would ooze out my head and on to the floor. The last one I had I asked the chick if she used heat protectant and she said no, but she doesn't use a lot of heat...... Yeah she used a lot of heat and then said "See I didn't use a lot of heat, right?" Told me my hair was healthy, I told her yeah and I wanna keep it that way.. Never went back. Dominican hair salon smells like cooked hair, that burned!

Just breaking down your relaxer with either oil or conditioner.. Or you can use a mild perm and leave it on for less than the time you normally do. You can still see your waves and when wet it will look permless. But once you put a flat iron to it, it's straight with lots of body, instead of dead and lifeless.

Dark Caesar - I started texlaxing because I didn't like the bone straight too. I plan on stretching at least 10 weeks too. Shooting for 12 tho.

never been, too many horror stories of heat damage! even tho the hair be layyyed. that's bc they've broken ALL the bonds in the hair

which by the way can be repaired with protein treatments and deep conditioning. BUT u have to be consistent with doing them

Dub you ever looked at some of those chicks hair tho? Hair be long as shyt but then when it gets wet, it's thin as hell! And it didn't smell burnt because of the products. When I was a regular I used to just get roller sets. Once I brought my own rollers please it was over. One thing tho sometimes I could never get it to look like theirs. What's they secret? It was hit or miss for me.

thanks vdot and hairlova! i'm so scared to put any harsh chemicals on it cuz after chemo, it took a long time for it to get back thick and healthy. I didn't get a perm until about a year later, and it started thinning it out really badly, so I went natcha and haven't looked back. the worst part about being natcha for me is that I am extremely tenderheaded.

@ Whip girl I love the comb chase method. I don't even use my hot comb. Get my heat protectant, blow with that mommy brush (deman) and then flat iron. I wanna try to roller set since my hair grew some, to cut out some of the heat.. But ion this will be my first roller set since being natural.

I mix olive oil in the relxer so it’s not as strong and slows down the process so the hair doesn’t get bone straight.

Shoot just a little at a time.... You don't want it to be too runny. I don't measure nathin! Maybe try a cap full at first and stir and see what the consistency is like.

Nan - I just use a tablespoon. But I also coat the rest of the already relaxed hair with a combo of grease/conditioner/olive to prevent over lapping.

I stopped letting other people give me relaxers years ago because they aint know what they were doing. Really I don't like anyone but my niece doing my hair. And she's 5

yasssss! if my hair had not "come back" to it's normal state after chemo, I was prepared to wear a wig FOREVAH or make regular visits with hubby to the barber shop. folks need to be honest about their "situation" and stop doing more damage to already over-processed hair. since that lady, I've noticed it more and more with women spraying their scalp.
