Baltimore single mom Toya Graham got a peck on the cheek from her 16-year-old son, Michael Graham, as she exited 'The View' studios in New York City, New York. Ms. Graham was caught on video smacking and hurling profanities at her son who was throwing bricks at cops during the Baltimore uprisings this week.
Some in the black community are bristling at the mainstream media's rapturous celebration of a black mother mollywhoppin her son in the street. The media also took comfort in the fact that Graham has 6 kids by 6 different fathers.
In her thought-provoking article titled "Why is America celebrating the beating of a black child?," Dr. Stacey Patton wrote, "This celebration of Graham reflects a belief that black youths are inherently problematic, criminal and out of control. The video also supports the idea that black fathers are absent, suggesting that all we need is an angry black mom to beat the “thug” out of an angry young man – and everything will be fine."
