CNN Don Lemon

Some people can't accept the truth even when it's right in front of their noses. The Sandra Bland suicide debate continues to rage on social media.

Bland is the 28-year-old black woman who committed suicide in a Texas jail cell 3 days after she was arrested for allegedly assaulting a state trooper.

On Tuesday, Lemon, CNN contributor Sunny Hostin and anchor Wolf Blitzer discussed new video released by the Waller County Sheriff's office that shows Bland arriving safely at the jail.

Bland was very much alive when she was booked and her mugshot was taken.

The new footage debunked the conspiracy theory that Bland was dead before she arrived at the jail.

"The official cause of her death is suicide," said Lemon. "There's nothing to indicate otherwise."

Black Twitter exploded with rage.

I heard a Jewish guy paid for the 1,000 Person BLACKLIVESMATTER Convention in Cleveland. Why? Follow the money people.

  • aRoth

I heard him on Tom Joyner yesterday saying reading the same script. I have my theory on this whole ordeal. I don't think she killed herself. I think she gave them hell. Talked sh!t. Bruised their ego (not hard to do for cops) and they came in, suffocated her, she put up a damn good fight. They killed her. Then tried to stage it and call it a suicide. Sh!t ain't right, yo. #mytheory

This situation is sad. Sandra Bland did NOT kill herself. akneewho I.cannot.with.this.

  • http://sandrarose.com SandraRose

I never thought I would say this, but I agree with Don. All the evidence points to suicide. Sunny Hostin should be ashamed of herself for basing her opinion on emotions rather than facts. The other inmate said Bland cried for 3 days because her family and friends abandoned her. Video shows no one entered her cell. What more proof does Sunny need? She must have been a terrible prosecutor, or whatever she was.

  • iWasteTime

In history they have felt and empathized with the black struggle. It, in some ways mirrors their own. hundreds, marched, funded and died during the civil rights movement and they still continue to stand up and protest and fund if and when they can. They know what the out come of all out hatred is. With their ancestors it ended with a trip to camp and a gas bath or being baked alive.

  • OpinionHated

Why doesn't anybody believe she killed herself though? I don't think anyone came in her cell and flat out murdered her that would be insane... I do however think its possible she killed herself or was injured when arrested resulting in death but uhhhmm wouldn't an autopsy put all this speculation to rest - where is the report....
people just love to jump on a bandwagon and run with it - its when people start taking something like this and inflating it that makes the black cause look foolish - you know how dumb people sound saying they ran up in her cell and killed her - why for what - come on some cops are racist and terrible but pre meditated murder cause she's mouthy - highly doubt it...

  • Lorenzo Chaps

This is more believable than she killed herself. I will say I'm biased because my family knows first hand what it's like for when a fam member goes to jail for something simple and come out dead. The jailers will never admit to anything and will always play up the past or flaws of the inmate.

In my uncle's case, they said he fell on a bar of soap after having Vietnam flashbacks. But no one could explain all the bruises, bumps and lumps all over his face, head, etc. All that from one fall? I think we will never know what truly happened in that Sandra Bland's cell either.

This situation is so sad... As her family I too would want to know what the hell happened. I honestly do not believe she killed herself.. It wasn't like she was tried convicted and sentenced to life in prison all of this doesn't make sense and something in the milk aint clean!

  • Its Me

I would actually prefer for once to do some work.

  • Lorenzo Chaps

Well, I'm biased from family experience. I think for most others, like SR eluded to, we are emotional right now. You do have to separate emotions or personal feelings from facts AND EVIDENCE. On top of that, look at all the things we've experienced with cops within the past year related to all these deaths that happened at the hands of cops. So cuz of that, we're less likely to just believe she killed herself.

i will be the first to admit that I don't want to believe her family and friends would not send $500 to get her out of jail after 3 days. Will most people kill themselves cuz they haven't been bailed out and their alleged mental health is pushing them to that point? I hope to never find out.

I'on know why people would think she was dead when she arrived at the jail. She left voice messages for her family and friend. She still shouldn't have been in that jail in the first place.

YO! I'm here at work hot. I'm about to email you

I agree with you about Sunny. She keeps getting it wrong with her legal analysis. I actually feel sorry for her when other legal analysts make her look like she graduated from Devry Law School. Every case since Travyon Martin, her legal analyst has been wrong.

I'm sticking to my theory that they ignored her calls because they were tired of bailing her out. Ms. Bland had almost $7000 in fines owed in Chicago for traffic violations. She probably saw Texas as her last shot, but then this happened and it took her over the edge.

  • GTFOHWTBS

I believe she killed herself as well. When her roommate did not show up with the $500 after saying he would and days later still no show and when she tired to contact him, his phone went straight to voicemail.. Sandra's mother was not taking any of her calls . what a damn shame. Probably none of them had $500 much less $5

My friend just posted LITERALLY about 8 mins ago on FB about how her brother died in jail. He begged for his life! They left him in his jail cell from Wed. to Fri. because that's when the dr. was to return. They told the family, they thought he was sleeping. He did not receive the proper care.
And in the case of Sandra Bland, we seen how she was treated during the traffic stop. We also seen that she was upset and irate. She did probably talk sh!t behind bars. The cops probably became irritated and boom.........now we're marching.

  • Lorenzo Chaps

Agreed. Who gets pulled outta their car for failing to signal and not putting out a cigarette? I got pulled over before on my way to a job interview. I handed that fat phuck my license and kept tieing my tie in the mirror after he asked what he needed from me. He came back, had me sign the clipboard, and went on.

Can we get rid of all cops in every state? It's not like they're really policing anyways. They show after the fact for most crimes. They don't defuse any situations, they make them worse usually. ANd they show up like what they say is the end all. So again, what are they policing?

  • http://sandrarose.com SandraRose

Feeling depressed occasionally and suffering from depression are 2 different things. Imagine feeling depressed 24 hours a day with no relief. It's painful and exhausting! The prevailing thought in the back of your mind is "suicide will make all this pain go away." Every day is a struggle NOT to kill yourself.

  • 1/8

After seeing the newly released jailhouse footage, you'd have to be insane to believe someone strangled Sandra Bland to death.

Sandra wasn't a small woman and if someone murdered her, she would have put up one h3ll of a fight! Which brings me to the forensic evidence.

The medical examiner said the findings were consistent with suicide. When a conscious victim is being strangled, they struggle to get free... and whatever is being used to strangle them, leaves bruises consistent with a struggle.

Apparently, that was not the case with Bland. Her ligature marks were likely even, indicating she hanged herself.

  • Canary Red™

    Not today...not today!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ?

  • Lorenzo Chaps

How does that roommate show his face knowing that in some way, her death is on his hands. U gave that woman your word that you would come with money and never showed up. When a person calls you from jail with that phone call, they feel like you are that one person they can count on. He never showed up. Please explain sir.

  • ATL White Guy

I think the only thing the new video debunks is the feeling that Sandra Bland was deceased when they brought her to the police station. Here's my view (and ok, yes i'm a white guy but i am looking at it logically based on video available, vilify me if it makes one feel better): 1. The pull over was lawful; 2. She should NOT have been roughed up and arrested in my view, the officer plainly escalated and overreacted - bad training, bad attitude, 3. She was alive when brought in to booking. Beyond that point, though, there is still no definitive proof one way or the other on the suicide or homicide.

  • aRoth

Because the video of her arrest sure was. TUH!

The autopsy shows she asphyxiated. That means she choked to death. Unless you can prove the cop was in her cell choking her, she killed herself.

  • http://sandrarose.com SandraRose

True. The facts are clear. Her autopsy shows she was strangled by a trash bag liner that was tied around her neck. NO ONE entered her cell in the hour between her last phone call and when she was found dead. These are indisputable facts.

  • Itzgoingdown

Don't be so naive. Jewish people help when it also benefits their own self interest. How has this partnership worked for Blacks? It's been great for Jews. • Ready4Fun

There is no doubt that the young lady died because of the vicious actions of a rabid police officer who should be charged with manslaughter.

I was in the same place she was 35 years ago and know the feeling while so many are guessing what she felt. 35 years ago, I was stopped for speeding...the police officer ran my license, I had a bench warrant for a 4 y/o speeding ticket. I said "I'm in a hurry, you had that ticket for 4 years ... you can wait another 4 years". The officer was courteous but did not speak as he handcuffed me and took me in. I sat in a holding cell for an hour before allowed a telephone call (no cell phones back then). When I got my call, the only person I could find was one of my sisters. She said that she would let my parents know as soon as they got home. As the day went on and no one came .... I started getting scared. Then it was night...I was in a panic. I became hysterical when the police transferred me to a regular jail cell. I’ve always been a very strong-willed person but I cried the entire time. My family not coming hurt worst than being arrested. About 11pm, my oldest sister came to get me out. It turned out that the sister I talked with on the phone didn’t see the urgency and told no one. When my parents found out, they called an attorney whom called a familiar judge who called the jail to get me out.

Sandra Bland was viciously attacked by a police officer and thrown in jail for absolutely no reason at all ... then no one came to her rescue. She felt violated and rejected. I can’t even fathom what I would have been like after 3 days in jail. So yeah, she probably committed suicide. That doesn’t mean the police officer is off the hook. Again, he should be charged with manslaughter.

  • Lorenzo Chaps

yeah, cuz the one time I got selected, we were going to war...over a traffic accident...tween two black men. I know the thing that pushed us there was the white juror who took his stance before we were in our seats 5 seconds in the deliberation room. On top of that, other people weren't taking it seriously. It was like, 'I think he's lying so, he's guilty.' HUH? And what about this stack of evidence and reports? We got off track so many times cuz it was personal for us 2 outta the 3 days we were there.

  • nucynu25

Exactly, it really makes no sense. Sandra Bland wasn't mentally strong, sorry to say it but she was a fuk up. Trust am not judging I've been one 2. She Saw TX as a new chance on life , but she didn't forget to leave the attitude. What ppl keep forgetting is Sandra had issues, her family was tired. Jail makes the strongest weak. Everybody wants this to be a murder. Why? ? What we going to do besides March for a couple weeks, pray & forget abt it. Yes there's racism in this country, but this isn't an issUe. • THE OLDER SISTAH

Not every death deemed a suicide is indeed a suicide, just
like there have been cases where it was determined a person was murdered and instead it turned out to be a suicide. All this being said, I think the problem people are having with Sandra Blands’ death are the inconsistency of the facts being presented. She was made to put out her cigarette and get out her car, she was man handled by an overzealous cop- all for a traffic violation?
Then she had the means to harm herself (garbage bag) in the
cell with her, even though the police by their own admission were told she had tried to commit suicide before.
Then the high amount of weed in her system. How did she
sneak it in when she was arrested? How did she smoke weed or ingest it in jail? These questions need to be addressed, then we can say for
sure that she committed suicide. IJS

if you watch the video of her making calls at the FRONT DESK or whatever....you can see how upset she became after not being able to reach anyone. You just don't know a person's mental state....if she had mental issues, it's easy to go from 0-100 REAL QUICK, then back to 0 then back to 100. Trust me, if she was being treated unfairly in that jail, they wouldnt have let her walk around and use the desk phone for 30 minutes straight! It is POSSIBLE that SANDRA BLAND committed suicide. I have witnessed people be ok one minute, then start getting DEPRESSED AND paranoid, believing that their fam and friends don't care about them or don't love them - all because they didn't ANSWER THEIR PHONE...or TEXT when they wanted them to and then start talking about taking their life and mess like that. MENTAL ILLNESS IS REAL. BLACK FOLKS BE SCARED TO ADMIT IT. Word!

  • Nik

I agree. On a normal day we can say suicide with some degree of certainty due to the likelihood. However, there's a lot of concerns regarding the facts that should slow down our rush to judgment.

  • ATL White Guy

The use of the word definitive comes into play. While I hear what you are saying about the phone call, the video that shows no one entered her cell, the preponderance of evidence does seem to side with suicide. It's just my heart weighing in, with all the police on black brutality lately that says I wish I had definitive proof - actually seeing the unfortunate act - that causes me to not be 100% clear. Yes, emotions come into play as I look at my children and grandchildren and hope they grow up in a better society.

  • Nik

This gives some good insight. Thank you.

  • Nik

WHERE did you see something like that?? I'd be traumatized.

  • slim3542

I agree. As a sufferer of depression and bi-polar. Which i don't take treatment for. In my past, ive been in the victim's exact position. Prison, loneliness, finances, alienation on my part from many family and friends, relocating on a whim to different cities and states trying to escape my problems, feeling overwhelmed, feeling unworthy, feeling alone, low @ss bail that seems noone can pay....or no bail judgement at all, small space confined within 4 walls, alot of regrets....would have, shouldve, couldves and Whys.
Yup, been there and have contemplated suicide many many times.

  • slim3542

To answer your question. Yes they will.

  • 1/8

Online, and I'd rather not say where. I cried when the video was over. The man was obviously in a lot pain and determined to end his life - just like Sandra Bland.

  • Victorious82

What about own autopsy performed don't you understand?

My question is if they can afford a second autopsy why couldn't they come up with that $500 bail bond.

  • Victorious82

Lord I've been saying this all day. You took the words right off my fingertips. I feel bad for her. Her family ain't shit. Couldn't come up with $500 and stopped taking her calls. I hope they never have another good nights sleep.

  • Nik

Yes, please don't. For someone to do that they are in extreme pain. Also, I think many people don't realize depression is not always just a "feeling". It is a state of mind for those affected that they can't shake without intervention. For others it's a chemical imbalance or having a propensity for depression may be hereditary.

  • Will

The only reason I'm not willing to dive right into a conclusion that she killed herself is because "conspiracy" is just as plausible. To come to a conclusion based on the theory that it isn't just isn't logical. How carefully has all the witnesses and evidence been examined. I've seen a video showing a comparison of the traffic stop video vs. audio of what the officer reported to have taken place and he was lying ...trying to cover up what took place, so how far could he (or any others) go to covering up what really happened to her becomes what the public has a right to consider and demand that it be investigated. Is it possible the video evidence or any other evidence made public has been tampered with? The public's refusal to accept this as a suicide is reasonable until all questions have been answered. The way I see it, we don't need it to be a fact that they murdered her in jail to be a fact for them to still be guilty and held accountable even if she took her own life.

  • ATL White Guy

Exactly my feelings, and not just in Waller Co. but our nation as a whole. I wish I could fully trust the conclusions of investigations and such, but there is just such a historical cloud that overshadows our society based on race that there's always some doubt.

  • scentsychick30

I don't know on this one,was just reading a story in which the prison said suicide, but the towns medical examiner said it was homocide. Ultimately police investigated themselves and said we're right and called it suicide.

I hope you are coping well and know your triggers. I think we all are prone to it due to one thing or another.

  • HisLovelyOne

Exactly, seems like her family has quieted down. Perhaps they know she killed herself.

  • sunni_daze

Has the autopsy report been released yet?

  • Wildcat34

This case is definitely skeptical, however I'm not sure why no one is even considering she may have committed suicide. I keep hearing...well she was 6ft tall in a small cell, as if the only way to commit suicide is by being suspended in air...case in point, Robin Williams. Also, no one wants to talk about the fact she had mental issues...was her family tired of the attention seeking measures? If the cops were being violent, why didn't she indicate that information on the voicemails? Some people thrive off attention, people get tired of dealing with personality issues such as narcissism...it is exhausting. I can only imagine the pain she was in once she realized no one was going to bail her out. I hope and pray we found out what happened to her and the family finds comfort in the matter.

  • HisLovelyOne

The first one has, I don't know about one done by the family.

  • HisLovelyOne

He's right. I heard the family asked that people not use the hashtag of her name due to the rampant speculation.

  • sunni_daze

Do you happen to know what it said. I haven't heard anything.

  • lenny

? But she did kill herself. but that dont excuse her bs arrest. She would be alive if she didnt have to go through that torment.

  • HisLovelyOne

It said that the death was the result of a suicide . The findings said her injuries were consistent with someone who hung themselves vs someone that was killed. She had no defensive wounds that would suggest murder. They also found 30 cut marks on her left wrist that were in the process of healing. She had marks on her wrists from the hand cuffs, and I believe bruises on her left shoulder, probably from tussling with the officer.

  • Michelle

I absolutely can't stand this little queen but I do agree with what he said.

  • sunni_daze

I found and read it. Thank you!

  • sheloves2play

So you will believe anything that the media puts out, smh, sorry I forgot you are part of the media

  • HisLovelyOne

    You're welcome.

  • Kim

Black people kill themselves.Black people have eating disorders.Black people commit incest.Enough of this nonsense that only white people engage in these behaviors.
On The Sandra Bland issue I have always believe she killed herself and I believe the trooper should be punished for arresting her.She would be alive and at work if had given her a ticket or warning

  • http://ivyleaguelove.tumblr.com/ Applebootay

For the sake of argument, let's say she did in fact kill herself. Do you not hold the entire law enforcement staff that processed her arrest in Waller Co. accountable for her death?

  • Tammie Reed

I could have sworn he got fired? I guess I was wrong. Sigh!

  • HisLovelyOne

I don't hold them responsible because, although she had attempted suicide in the past, she answered no to the question of being currently suicidal. Therefore they didn't have to put her on suicide watch. The officers weren't doing their visuals timely which would be hourly, however if she was intent on killing herself it wouldn't matter if they were on time with their visuals.

  • http://sandrarose.com SandraRose

I'm sure the jail has copies of all the voice messages she left for her family members who never called her back. I am anxious to hear what the bail bondsman has to say. He was kind enough to offer to call her mother. It's a shame how black families treat each other.

  • toni walker

Black women have horrible attitudes period! We do not have a race issue in this country! Most black people killed by police were negative human beings to begin with it was not there race! Black lives matter is a bunch of bull!

  • toni walker

Trevon Martin and Freddie gray was not about race either. Trevon martin attacked George Zimmerman first! It is never about race when this happens. Black lives matter is just used to play the race card!

  • http://sandrarose.com SandraRose

You're right. They let her make multiple phone calls when they really didn't have to. Inmates are entitled to one phone call. Depression is a serious disease. It's an exhausting daily battle to convince yourself that life is worth living. We need to do better for the Sandra Bland's of the world.

  • http://sandrarose.com SandraRose

The family ordered their own independent autopsy in Chicago. What does the Texas ME have to do with anything?

  • http://sandrarose.com SandraRose

For the most part they just relax. There is very little struggle because they have resigned themselves to their fate.

  • Tia

Sandra Rose is ignorant to the fullest. She likes to stir the pot and go against what most of us believes. She makes up her own stories most of the time and adds her own theories. She should probably be on suicide watch because she is definitely crazy and delusional. She acts as if she was there when it all went down. Sandra pick a seat and plant your sorry arse in it for GOOD! Over you and your antics. I don't even care to come to this sorry arse blog again. Change the name of this site to miserableazzsandraroseandherlies.com

Why SR got all these folks words up here?!

  • Hmmm~?

You people who keep bringing up the "she was 6ft, how can she hang herself from a 5f wall?" argument are close minded and completely uneducated on the topic of self-asphyxiation. You don't need to suspend yourself in the air in order to choke yourself. It would be very easy to "hang" (not literally hanging as in dangling in air) yourself from a 5ft wall. I fully 1000% believe that she killed herself, now that this video debunks the myth that she was dead when those photos were taken. She killed herself. Stop desperately trying to find injustice in a case where there is none. I also find it ironic how you call Sandra an idiot when you think the only way to self-asphyxiate yourself is by literally hanging yourself from the ceiling.

  • LesBiTru

She DID NOT kill herself. Not for a traffic violation. I don't care who says otherwise. It's foolish. The government is the killer, they've been the killer for years, and they will continue to be the killer, until we put a stop to this ****! The next time I get stopped for a "traffic violation" I won't be reacting like Sandra did. I won't be the one dead...So GOD have mercy on any officer of the law that crosses me. Ima get you before you get me.

  • prc

People are calling him an Uncle Tom because he actually is forming an opinion based on inmate statements, intake forms, her statements in social media. He never said the arrest was legal , but the evidence shows she committed suicide. What evidence shows she was murdered? Again unlawful arrest equals firing from his job and civil suit against police department. No one can be charged with murder just because black people say so(I'm black ). That attitude of the law is to be ignored and group think of our community has to stop. Valid evidence of murder ????

  • Guess Who

I see you're an idiot too.
There are way too many inconsistencies with EVERYTHING concerning this case and you know this. STOP ACTING LIKE IT"S FAR FETCHED that she was MURDERED when daily footage shows that cops truly ain't ABOUT SHYT. The video doesn't debunk SHYT because she was in STREET CLOTHES in the video, NOT a jail orange outfit da faq wrong with you folks?

  • Guess Who

    BIOTCH PLEASE

  • http://www.mediakraze.me/ Kristi Luv

    true, we do.

  • Celestewriter

Not to be frank, but why and how are people getting into police custody to begin with? Shouldn't we be mad at them for causing civil disobedience, and acting like they are the ones who enforce the law, and intimidating law enforcement? We have to be in our roles at all times. If you're a civilian, be a good one and don't land in police custody. If you're a police officer, serve and protect.

I agree that things went too far with her being pulled over. We really don't need to dissect what happened, as the focus is on the end result: her death. I hope she rests in peace ans her family gets closure.

I also don't feel that we should glorify her death, either.

Our (the black community) focus when it comes to events regarding black people and their livelihood constantly overrides the major issues in the community, We are stuck on focusing all of our energy and power on death and murder or blacks by the hands of white people and cops, but we never place that much energy on the black community's destructive cycle of raising thugs, having bad attitudes toward authority, as we are taught to fear cops through black art (rap), rappers who constantly go to prison and make it a trend for young black boys to go out and break the law by selling dope and trapping , the over sexualization of black women in media, and most of all: the fact that our black community leaders are horrible at leading; they just keep you stuck on the past and the turmoil that our ancestors endured...leading to us looking like imbeciles in the eyes of the world, because we are full of crap. How can we say that we are looking for justice from racism all the time, yet keep crime in our communities?? Is there a reason why our black leaders push their agenda on tv like this?Who knows about #100days100nights? The media isn't showing us that there is a contest among gang members in L.A to see who catch the most bodies in 100 days in retaliation of a gang member getting murdered.

Why isn't this known widely? Why are we steadily making martyrs out of our people to prove a point that out descendants already proved. We can make it in America, just act with respect and like a civilized person. Don't glorify criminal behavior in our community like it's no big deal. It;s a crime. The music we have is a threat. These tattooed faced rappers and strippers are threat. The drugs and bad parenting is a threat. We are our own threat...but no one needs to know about threat. Those are black problems, Who cares?

  • http://sandrarose.com SandraRose

Just think if her so-called "friend" had bailed her out in an hour like he promised, she would be alive today.

  • Amel

I totally agree. There is NO evidence she was murdered. Everyone is so upset now but none of her family would answer her calls or post the bail. I dont know why people are so stuck on the idea of suicide.

  • Amel

Yes! People should focus on improving treatment of mental illnesses. Although the cop should also being investigated for how the traffic stop was handled.

  • digital_femme

Guess it's time for the police dept to cough up unedited video evidence then. In the meantime, I'll be waiting for the apocalypse. Which will probably happen sooner.

  • Rolly

You might be right. So sad.

  • digital_femme

Yeah, because it's impossible to edit video.... I almost moved to London a few years ago, and you're making me very grateful that I didn't because between you and a few other brits I'm seriously concerned about the educational system there.

  • http://sandrarose.com SandraRose

She spoke to the bail bondsman an hour before she died. I guess he's lying, too?

  • digital_femme

Yes, people do usually speak until they no longer can.
