Dee Barnes and Dr Dre

Former rapper and TV personality Denise "Dee" Barnes opened up to Gawker.com about the savage beating she suffered at the hands of music mogul and serial domestic abuser, Dr. Dre.

While 'Compton' made history at the box office this past weekend, the film's success is overshadowed by the specter of domestic violence looming over Dr. Dre's head.

Many critics have noted the lack of attention paid to accusations of violence inflicted on women by Dre in Straight Outta Compton. Director F. Gary Gray managed to white wash Dre's shameful history of abuse -- as if it never happened.

That doesn't sit well with Barnes, who agreed to watch Straight Outta Compton, and reflect on it for Gawker.com.

Barnes was relieved that 'Compton' skipped over her brutal assault on the floor of the women’s restroom at the Po Na Na Souk nightclub on January 27, 1991.

"The truth is too ugly for a general audience," said Barnes. "I didn’t want to see a depiction of me getting beat up… But what should have been addressed is that it occurred."

Barnes added:

Dre, who executive produced the movie along with his former groupmate Ice Cube, should have owned up to the time he punched his labelmate Tairrie B twice at a Grammys party in 1990. He should have owned up to the black eyes and scars he gave to his collaborator Michel’le. And he should have owned up to what he did to me. That’s reality. That’s reality rap. In his lyrics, Dre made hyperbolic claims about all these heinous things he did to women. But then he went out and actually violated women. Straight Outta Compton would have you believe that he didn’t really do that. It doesn’t add up. It’s like Ice Cube saying, “I’m not calling all women bitches,” which is a position he maintains even today at age 46. If you listen to the lyrics of “A Bitch Iz a Bitch,” Cube says, “Now the title bitch don’t apply to all women / But all women have a little bitch in ‘em.” So which is it? You can’t have it both ways. That’s what they’re trying to do with Straight Outta Compton: They’re trying to stay hard, and look like good guys.

I was a battered woman for many years and if there was movie made by my batterer i could care less if he mentioned it or owned up to his wrongdoings because whether a person change or not we all have done dirt and if someone hold everything over our head every time we try to do something with our lives then we got a problem. I am not negating what happened but good gracious when do you become the victor over bad situations and let people stop living rent free in your life. forget him, let God deal with him.

    • SummerBaby

I read the article. Very sad indeed. I'm also a domestic abuse survivor. I'm not sure how I would feel if my attacker was rich & being worshipped. I've heard several people say there is stuff missing from the movie, but it can only be so long. Good luck to Dee ??

What I dislike is the women are being frowned upon. Like Miche'le has been very candid about her abuse but people would rather defame her for having a child by Dre and Shuge in an effort to deflect away from The men some people idolize. Our priorities are totally screwed. Funny who we paint as pioneers. Dre, shug, Bruce Jenner not heros not pioneers

    • http://Copblock.org aDingoDrankMyBabies

??Right. Is what it is though?? I'm sure she wishes his now incomes factored into his then income of the settlement days, again though...What can you do? Man commits murder, serves 25, gets out...They say-he paid his debt, if it was my folks he murdered, I'd be hot,,,But, what can you do??

    • hotntot95

well aint this messed up, I've heard stories about Dre but never took time to know what really happened and i haven't seen the movie yet.. but its sad this movie comes out, (very successful at the box office) now these ladies are thrown forward to bring out the ugly truth behind one individual. NWA stood for something more than Niqqas with attitude..It's about the legacy that followed.

    • http://sandrarose.com SandraRose

I'm sorry you were the victim of abuse. But domestic abuse is not to be taken lightly or forgotten just because the abuser is very successful. He is a success at the expense of his victims. I hope the knowledge of what he did to those women hangs over his head like a thunder storm for the rest of his days.

I used to b a fan back in the day, but I was young and not as knowledgeable. The entire group were knuckleheads who praised Dre's decisions in beating women. Many interviews display this. If you can name 1 song or act that was positive from them I'd love to hear it. Ill wait.

    • hotntot95

u misunderstand my point about the legacy..not a fan of gansta rap however cube is director and producer of many movies that paved the way for many black people period. i look at the success stories. There is waaaay more to us than being ho's and thugs and being Products of our environment as black people we turn our negative's into art..but the shade that's thrown aggravates me.

    • Jusstlookn2

Hey Bre, I agree with you....I'm pursuing you, like not in that way. The way DTTS stalks Buffets and changes whigs to get back in line, cuase they got a 1.5 hour limit

Why finally 36 months later, that my google alert went off for Ta Doww....I thought my old home girl had found me. Oh Well.

I been wronged so many times, in so many ways. All kinds of ways, by all kinds of people. I'm sure they have or will be dealt with. Sometimes I want to dress in all black and light 66 black candles with 1 white candle. Then call on a spirit to blow their houses down or raggedy section 8 apartments. But I get in my ride and boy is it nice (yeap I'm braggin) Cause I use to ride the bus, so it's really a testimony. What I do I bump Dre, Micheal Jackson (supposedly he raped only litle boys) Rick James he beat all kinds of asses, Eddie Murphy...Party all the time and Do it in your butt. (that last one has very odd lyrics; like put a light in your butt to make it bright in your butt) ButTTT it's catchy. Every now and then I gotta talk to my ex husband who I happen to have layed down with many a night and somehow we had a child, he says I raped him. But it is what it is....Do we not forgive and move on.

    • Cassie Mitchell

Thanks for sharing truth, something DRE didn't have the heart to face and own. Sad documentary on the mental makeup of black men who champion NWA. I will never pay to see fake ass men who's toughness embodies beating and disrecting their own race. Grown men own their truth

    • Sassy24

I always wondered how these rappers would feel if somone talked about or treated their daughters like they describe women in their lyrics.

    • MissA

My ex would always say that he made some mistakes and that was the past. And his mother said that I could've left. Never addressing how violent her son was in the first place. Not necessarily taken lightly, but definitely dismissive. I had to contact him through social media concerning our kids, and oh boy, the lies on his fb page! All the posts about being a good man...ugh. And it made my blood boil to think that people don't know that side of him.

So...if she herself in essence didn't boycott Dre....*Trails off*

    • http://sandrarose.com SandraRose

This is why I don't listen to NWA music anymore. I was young and dumb when I immersed myself in this group's misogyny.

    • My Thoughts

He recently acknowledged that he abused her at some point?

    • Yani

It is one thing to have a person who knows they did you wrong acknowledge that, and reciprocate your feelings in a way that you are validated. Than to have that same individual acknowledge it in a way that invalidates the whole situation and on top of that, disregards your feelings. You would feel some type of way too. I said all of that to say, he may not have ever actually apologized to his victims directly, but; seeing as he issued a public, totally bs apology...I get where she's coming from and I am glad that Sandra is posting about these ladies and sharing their stories from their side. Some do not want to hear. These ladies need to be heard, if nothing else. I doubt that he even showed remorse after the fact, or even apologized to her directly. Given the apology he issued the public was total bs...after all these years (that was probably the only thing closest to an apology they'll ever get), they get a half a$$ so...without the rry.

    • Its Me

I mean it keeps getting omitted. Pertinent facts. She sued. She married someone with Death Row ties. Just like he didn't say anything for years....where Dee been? What she been doing? I LIKED Dee. Wasn't ANY women in hip-hop ON TV back then. Did she speak up when Michel'e was making confessions on Divas about Dre bopping her in the eye? 2 years ago? Why Wendy didn't interview Dee? I WANTED to hear from her. She coulda released this same statement. It was relevant. ..no? Did I miss it? I was waiting at the doe to hear from her. I never forgot. Did she? Or is she just now reliving it again?

I'm not victim shaming her. SO Don't. Do NOT. But I'm an investigator to my heart. When one person get the side eye? Everybody getting it. Cause somewhere in all of this is not only the truth comes out, but other items come out too. Like motives.

Also...according to a long ago article in Newsweek, Dee only sued Dre in the first place after she offered to not press charges... if he agreed to produce a rap album she was working on at the time... and he refused.

Let all of that come back out. FOLKS WHO WERE NOT around IN 1991 don't know the daggone homework.

I'm going to sleep. I'm tired. From fake gatdamn caring.

    • Nikki W.

I was born in 89,so I don't recall this.My father told me about Dre beating women when his headphones, came out.He told me "he would never support his headphones, because he beat women".

I did my research and saw that dad was right, and that is why I didn't get the headphones(not that I would pay 200 dollars for headphones) but I also did not go see the movie because I can not knowingly support a woman beater.

It's been said that men on the DL like Dre,beat women. It's clear he hate women. He married a lady that, look like a man.I hear he's going upside her head too.

I can remember this incident like it was yersteday. Over twenty years ago. I never liked really liked Dre as a person after hearing what he did to her and Miche le. In no way am I blaming the victims but Dee Barnes/chose to settle out of court and Michele chose to stay until she moved on to Surge Knight who did her the same way. There is a time people need to move on and forgive. If the man isn't harming them on any other woman then they need too move on with life. Remember this was in the early 90 s not in today era.

I truly didn't wanna support Dre. But I had to give my coins to the brothers,(Eazy( RIP) and Cube) unfortunately Dre got his too? so sad,Dee said the song keep their heads ringing was literal for her, she said her ears ring, migraine headaches and everything else...?

You're so insensitive for a woman that got beat down by a man. The lady (Dee Barnes) said she still has headaches until this day from that beating. There has never been any real accountability.

Black people are still dealing with what happened in slavery and beyond,so what makes you think this lady will just "be over" what happened to her in the 90's. She has every right to speak on this.

    • anjelndskys

The movie was about NWA as a rap group, not about how Dre beat women.

From the entire write up, it seems that she was approached about the situation, asked to watch the movie and then give her opinion on it. In her defense, she stayed pretty factual and even said she was surprised by what went down, as she never saw this side of them. I don't think this is an incident of her harping on it, she was asked and responded. Seems to me she just told her and the other women’s side of the story and even said that she was happy that she and Easy E were able to make amends before his passing. Funny how people say get over it.........How? when they have mentioned the beating in their songs and you even had Eminem mentioning her in his lyrics and he wasn’t even around when it happened. Sounds like she has been quiet for long enough.

    • http://theempirefiend.tumblr.com/ Bird

Read this yesterday on Gawker. I'm glad she got her truth out. I was saddened to learn that Dre and Cube continue to effect her career to this day. That's my biggest problem with this thing. Dre got away with a slap on the wrist for holding this woman hostage and beating her into the middle of next week yet she has been severely punished for it for the past 25 years. Now I'm looking at Dre and Cube sideways. I at least used to respect Cube. They need to fix this shat. I was going to see the movie again at theaters this weekend. Instead I'll buy the bootleg.

    • http://theempirefiend.tumblr.com/ Bird

Let God deal with him while back here on earth this woman can't get a job in her chosen field? Yeah, I can't cosign that. To hell with retribution after death. They need to free this woman to work. They have been abusing her for 25 years. It's not ok.

    • http://theempirefiend.tumblr.com/ Bird

Oh she's been held accountable alright. The only one who hasn't paid a price is Dre. She had to raise her son by Dre alone like several of his other baby mamas. He's not only an abuser, but a dead beat daddy to boot. I've always been conflicted about supporting his art. That conflict is solved now. I'm over Dre completely. He'll start getting my money again when this woman gets back into her chosen field. That goes for all his endevours including Kendrick who is my boo. I'm tired of supporting black men who hate black women.

That's a lie. The biggest part of NWA's story was extreme misogyny. It was left out of the movie. I'm cool with it and still think the movie is superb, but the movie didn't even scratch the surface of the real NWA. It was white washed.

    • WHITTYwithWORDS

      If I get another comment...

    • http://theempirefiend.tumblr.com/ Bird

But why is it relevant who she married? She acknowledged in her article that they were all friends. Was she supposed to dump everyone else because of what Dre did? I don't get how her being married to Snoop's cousin is relevant.

    • http://theempirefiend.tumblr.com/ Bird

I honestly don't think they would care. They'd be those daddy's that would tell their daughters they need to stop doing things to make their man beat them. I don't think they respect any woman including family.

    • WHITTYwithWORDS

Listen if you don't want ppl to bring up your past misdeeds than don't commit them. She has a right to say whatever she wants as often as she wants. Dr Dre has a HISTORY of beating women. period. it wasn't an isolated incident...he beats women all the time and ppl have known about it. It sucks that the movie is being tied to it but that's the nature of the beast HE created. Now during that time they were on some gangsta shyt which is why she probably didn't say much but idc how long it was if a ninja beats my ass I'll say what I WANT....while spending the money he paid out.

    • http://theempirefiend.tumblr.com/ Bird

You should read her story. They settled for peanuts after Dre and his attorneys dragged it out for years. He pled no contest and got a slap on the wrist for holding her hostage in a ladies bathroom and beating her to within an inch of her life, slamming her head against the wall repeatedly, chocking her and trying to throw her through the door. She is blackballed to this day and even Cube treated her with disdain when she took a beating that was meant for him. Has Dre ever actually faught a man?

    • WHITTYwithWORDS

Hello? Ice Cube was the reason she got beat and he left her out to dry.

    • http://theempirefiend.tumblr.com/ Bird

Yeah, but funny how they left out the misogyny and violence that defined NWA. They were pretty much shown as sweethearts which is not even partially true.

    • http://theempirefiend.tumblr.com/ Bird

Gotta stand up and say here here.

    • http://theempirefiend.tumblr.com/ Bird

I hope the story gets picked up by mainstream media. Dre is a powerful 1 percenter. All I want to come from this is for Dee to be able to resume her career as an on air personality. I don't want to destroy Dre. I want her made whole.

    • http://theempirefiend.tumblr.com/ Bird

Charges were filed but you know that there is a differant justice system for the rich. He got a slap on the wrist. Dre put her through hail for that little piece of settlement that she got. It wasn't enough to cover the migranes that she still has 25 years later. She was young, dumb and struggling and accepted less than she should have.

    • Sassy24

More than likely which is sad

    • Sassy24

Morning Bird hope your day is going good so far.

    • Genia Gouch

This article just made me have a different perspective on the movie. I did wonder in various moments of the film, why was there no mention Michel'le specifically. They totally skipped right over her story. It didn't dawn on me, all the other pertinent women in their movement who's parts they skipped over as well. I would now watch this movie with different eyes.

    • anjelndskys

Yes, NWA was viewed as a controversial rap group by many.

Particulary because of their song, "f*** the police", meanwhile, police brutality (Rodney king) beating is one of the reasons why these guys response in their music came across the way that it did.

None of the members were angels, but most importantly, some have gone on to remain heavily in the public eye in a positive way.

    • Clapback central

Im so disgusted i'm dry heaving.

    • anjelndskys

I was so excited when the movie came out, I rushed to my uncle's house, and myself, uncle, and cousins all watched the movie twice.

This was my era back in the 90's, it just felt good to see NWA's story being played from a (not so negative view)

    • Tip

Exactly!! I've lived through it as well. I'm Not condoning what he did but can't people change?? I don't think that it was overlooked because anyone that was old enough to know what was going on back then knew. We saw it on tv. All I'm saying is I think just about everybody over the age of 30 knew what dre was about. But if people held on to everything that we did when we were young and stupid where would we be. I know I did a lot of crap that I wouldn't be doing now. Now I don't know what he's doing now in his relationship but as a firm believer in God the bible does say that you reap what you sow.....Who's to say that this has not come back on him already???

    • BubblingBrownSuga

Were azz beatings different in the early 90s than they are today? If the man was your next door neighbor with the same history of violence but without multi-million$ would you still be as generous with your forgiveness pass?

    • Ladysweetthang

Well since the world is talking about Dre and she's been under employed for years. Time to write a book. Based on her " opinion about the incident" it seems as if the settlement didn't include silence. The time to write that book is now! Yup she's still mad . Dee tell us nosy folks why you mad! What did the illuminati do to you girl?

    • BubblingBrownSuga

I guess they're too rich to respond about police brutality now. Either they don't know...don't show...or don't care about what's goin' on in the 'hood.

    • ????Angela White ????

How did he leave her out to dry? Her show was responsible for editing that show. Her show was being messy. Dre should have not beat her and Cube not responsible for what another grown man does.

    • more

Idk much about NBA but I mean. I'm just going based on what the interview said. They had a 3 hour movie by they time they was done. So they had to cut out side stories

    • ????Angela White ????

I don't support violence on anyone. Thank God I never got abused by any man or woman. I would have to fight back. I'm not supporting Dre or forgiving him cause he rich. I no of a situation where a family member was abused for 30 years and the man is still mentally abusing Her. She Chose to stay. If this was a poor person doing that and he got the help he needed I would move on I not have anything to say or do with that person.

    • more

Well said, I had no idea he was this dirty but hey that's how a lot of celebrities are.some are low key

    • GuestSTAR

Or that he beats the sht out of his current wife and has an infinity for trannys.

    • anjelndskys

True dat, but if they were to go about speaking against police brutality today, the way that they did back then, it would be another Ferguson situation in black communities, and it would be 10 x's worse.

    • Its Me

If I'm scared for my life...I'm disassociating myself from the whole crew. Everyone.

And I sure as hell am not negotiating favors with you on the fact you BEAT my azz...to try to get my record out there. You spoke on who she married, but glossed over that. After he beat her, she STILL not only was talking to him, but trying to strike a deal. If I'm scared of you, you done whooped me, why are we talking.... Ain't nothing left to talk about with the abuser.

"Also...according to a long ago article in Newsweek, Dee only sued Dre in the first place after she offered to not press charges... if he agreed to produce a rap album she was working on at the time... and he refused."

    • ABbaby

Wow, I'm not surprised though. I havent seen the movie and Im in no hurry.

    • more

Damn man I honestly I would not. Any man who beats woman is not safe for kids but I mean u got the situation handled so best of luck

    • ABbaby

      Huh?

    • ABbaby

I have experienced a terrible abuse also and it sickens me every time I hear that a man has abused or raoed a Woman. A decent man would never do that and Dre should own up to it and I mean fully own it.

    • ????Angela White ????

Yes Dre was wrong. I never really like him as person. Seemed like he has ugly ways. Was her job not supportive of her. If she is having these medical issues Dre should still be held accountable for her ongoing medical expenses.

    • WeAllWeGot

      Haha! Me too! ?

    • anjelndskys

Just Keyia, I agree, the NWA movie comes out and now these women are on social media rehashing their beatings.

Did they really want thus part of their life exposed, or is it because they are ashy within their line of work and need their last 15 minutes.

Dont get me wrong, anyone becoming a victim of violence is not okay, but why bring all of the abuse up now, Smh!

    • http://Copblock.org aDingoDrankMyBabies

I said let me block you?

    • ABbaby

I do know I will never forget the experience i had of being in a abusive relationship. You can forgive but you never truly forget. If we forget we are bound to make the mistake again. Anyone ever heard of post trumatic stress disorder ? You never forget.

    • anjelndskys

Totally agree, can we just be gr8ful that the story was well put together, and did not reflect on a lot of violence.

Or maybe F Gary Gray should have made the movie like menace to society, dead presidents, or boy in da hood.

    • Wakando Shamar Taylor

Its unfortunate what dre did but u wait till the movie come out and say somthing? Why would u want to see that in the movie anyway? Why didnt u be Strong and press charges instead of taking a settlement? I never advocate beating a woman i dont deny that it still haunts her but the timing is suspect

    • Jusstlookn2

Morning Hunny Bunny - Some body talking follow me and make money all day. FLAG

    • anjelndskys

Her son name is Marcel, and he is 24 yrs old, and I believe her daughter Bailei is 12.

    • Jusstlookn2

AGREE with you 100%, tell your side of the story. Say he beat the MONKEY crap out of you and it's your story and your side.

    • Bee ?

I read this article yesterday. Bravo to her for speaking out about it!

    • <—Doesn'tTalkToStrangers

But we hearing about now that the movie didn't show her getting bopped up and choked down?!?!?

She agreed to answer this interviewers questions. Why other folks so mad now?

    • Tiffany Miller

At some point in life, you have to forgive and move on. You exposed it, you sued, and you received some type of settlement. I feel really bad for her and what she experienced from people she thought were her friends. However, there is only so much you can fit into a movie and her story sounds as if it needs a movie by itself. Her story is a CRITICAL and crucial part of their history. But relating her love for Heads Ringing to having migraines from the beating is a bit overkill.

SIDENOTE: Just because they are your enemies doesn't mean that they won't achieve success. And you have to be mature enough to understand that while you are left back in 1991, people aren't thinking about you. Let it go!!!!

    • JENNYJONES1

SANDRA DID DEE PRESS CHARGES ON DRE? I REMEMBER THE INCIDENT BUT NOT IF HE WAS ARRESTED OR PUNISHED. IT'S JUST DISGUSTING REGARDLESS. I WONDER HOW HE'D FEEL IF SOME MAN DID HIS DAUGHTER THE SAME WAY HE DID WOMEN EVEN HER MAMA? SMH!!!..........JENNY JONES!!!

    • Michelle

Her interview was very revealing and very long. Way longer than whats on the blog. But what i didnt understand is why she says she didnt want that shown because she shouldnt have to relive it, but at the same time get mad because it wasnt shown. If i had got beat down by Dre and drug down the stair and put through a door, I would never go sit in a theatre and go see his punk @ss movie. Why even do an interview about this woman beater? His name would never come out my mouth. It seems to me she mad because she wasnt in it.

    • Ladysweetthang

After I made this comment I read the article thoroughly and saw that she is indeed writing a book. Hmmm I hope her voice can be heard if we can listen to superhead we should be able to listen to her.

    • shun king

That whole n.w.a thing helped usher in a new kind of cool to be a criminal crime wave that has not stopped or slowed down.

    • Tippie Toes

Dre will get his for sure!

    • Michelle

Even though my comment was deleted i have also been a victim of violence and as i said before i would not want that to be shown either. I wouldnt have even went to see the movie. Some people think its hard to believe that some people crave the attention or relevancy. Since this movie was a huge hit everyone is coming out left and right.

    • BLOODBLOOD

Exactly he been doing stuff for yrs why wait till the movie to bring it up these #itches had yrs to speak

    • Michelle

Yes and she agreed to a cash settlment with him. So all im saying is if it was that bad, she should have put his @ss in prison but of course cash rules everything around us

    • BLOODBLOOD

      ??? oh well

    • mamita

well after being savagely beaten by a grown man like that and her head butted into a wall im sure she had medical expenses. also she was blacklisted from hip hop. i agree she should've pressed charges but these people are powerful. i cant say what i would do in that situation

    • AriesSun

In my view, you're making excuses for the abuser by blaming the victim.

Has it ever occurred to you that not everyone in Snoop's clique or Death-Row was supportive of what Dr. Dre did to women?

You don't even know the person she married or his relationship with Dr. Dre.Perhaps he was someone that pulled that abusive man off her or other women because there are women he beat that aren't named.Maybe they liked each other before this situation occurred,after-all she was in those circles.

Bottom line is that Dr.Dre cat seems to harbor hate for women and is very abusive, which also makes him dangerous for any woman.

    • AriesSun

Sadly many black women will make excuses for black men that abuse a black women, especially if he's famous.

    • AriesSun

But this incident was and is not about you though.Everyone reacts differently in various situations.

    • Michelle

I would have taken his cash and put his @ss in jail. My point is she said she didnt want her part to be in the movie but then she gets mad that its not. Lets be real. That is not something to relive. She already told millions of people her stort 30 yeard ago. They didnt care. So why would they care now

    • VDot

She DID press charges. He just pled no contest to the assault charges, got a fine and had to do community service. Lightwerk

    • Liah

      SMH!!!

    • AriesSun

They don't care,They just care about idolizing somebody.

    • mamita

it probably hurts her to see these guys who treated her so badly become media darlings. gary gray was even the cameraman for her show. but dre didn't go after him or ice cube. just the interviewer doing the show. gotta feel crazy seeing that. guess she just needs her voice to be heard.

    • mamita

you sound so silly. so she married the COUSIN of snoop dog.. who happens to work with dre. what in the world does that have to do with her getting beat up.

    • Blue

We reap what we sow. One way or another.

    • ????Angela White ????

Wow I didn't no fgarygray was her camerman back then. This open a new light on the situation. I remember her getting beat down like it was yesterday. I was a big Ice Cube fan. Not much Dre and NWA. Well she was clearly thrown under the bus by her show and the industry. There was always something about Dre I did not like.

    • chappedlippz

She needs some attention. She got paid from his bad behavior. Why want to relive it?

    • Jusstlookn2

?Brenden? - Who bothering you bugga?

    • http://Copblock.org aDingoDrankMyBabies

Chile, his punk a?s only said that ish cause Sandra Claimed she couldn't follow***EYE Roll***She know what I said and he do to??

    • Sincerity7

Michel'le still seemed mentally messed up from having Suge Knight and Dr. Dre for baby daddies. Acting all crazy on R&B Divas LA.

    • TheWay

LMAO and he had the nerve to name his headphones.....BEATS BY DRE!!!! hahahaha He know what HE was doing!!!

    • Karma WhO

U kno I heard Dee isn't quite the saint she's acting to be, not sayin what he did was justifiable, never! But point is it was 91..maybe the karma is that nwa didn't survive..I don't think the movie was to highlight all negatives but yet to praise the music and the movement. What people have to deal with with God can't be avoided and dre can't avoid that..but would u get mad for Dre naming his brand BEATS after he beat u 20 years ago?! No..so have some chill..

    • Kbellaluvvs

It's her story to tell whenever she feels the need to. Who says a story can only be told once smh

    • Michelle

I agree with that but Dr Dre has been in the public eye for almost 30 years. Im just saying i dont understand why she says she doesnt want her scene in the movie but then get mad that its not. I would think it is very disrespectful for them to put her domestic violence scene in the movie.

    • mamita

I feel you. who knows.. maybe it's seeing them all together like that plus even gary gray directing just made her be like u know what im gonna get this out there. i mean it's all the guys who betrayed her and changed the track of her career/life. i still think it's an excellent movie and i never held any of them in that high regard anyways but it's crazy to learn this new info. (new for us younger)

    • Kbellaluvvs

I'm 31 and never heard about this until yesterday reading the comments here...... This is why I've always loved the Roses.

    • Michelle

This story has been told plenty of times. It wasnt in the movie oh well get over it.

    • Imperfectly_perfect

The little respect I had for Dre is gone. That Frankenstein front lining makes him look as crazy as he is! My question is, why did Dee choose to settle out of court? Instead of having that sucka thrown in jail?!

    • Meme81

I didn't know he was an adult. She's always saying 'I have to pick up my daughter' so she must be referring to Suge's kid or another child. Either way, Dre is a multi-millionaire, he could buy her a whip to try and help her in her time of need. That's the LEAST he could do.

    • Meme81

Yep. Apparently her son with Dre is like 24 and her daughter with Suge is 13.

    • SummerBaby

That would be a nice gesture especially all that he put her through.
