clock

President Obama raised eyebrows by inviting a 14-year-old schoolboy to bring a homemade "clock" that resembles a bomb to the White House.

School officials in Irving, Texas called police after Ahmed Mohamed brought the suspicious looking device inside a briefcase to his school and showed it to at least 2 teachers. One of his teachers was sufficiently alarmed enough to advise Mohamed not to show his "clock" to anyone else.

When the alarm clock went off inside the briefcase, a teacher asked Mohamed to open the case. When the teacher saw what was inside, she sent Mohamed to the principal's office. The school decided not to take any chances and called the police.

When the boy's parents alerted the local media, the story went national. The leftist media came down hard on school administrator's and the police for "overreacting" to Mohamed's "clock".

President Obama mocked the school and police by inviting young Mohamed to bring his "cool clock" with him to the White House.

Imagine the outcry if school officials did nothing when they saw Mohamed's contraption, and then it went off killing innocent schoolchildren?

Or, as a Twitchy.com blogger wrote:

We’re just spit-balling here, but if this “clock” were mailed to President Obama, we bet the Secret Service might not be too “cool” with it.

  • shell

    That clock does look suspect

  • Yolanda McDonald

    Hecky yeah lol

  • Renay Peters

    As he77!

  • Nik

I'm sorry but these days you can't be too cautious. I feel bad for the kid, but we have to consider the times we're living in. Everybody wants to scream discrimination, but wait til a bomb does go off in a school. Those same people will blame the school for being too lax. Can't win.

  • imright

his parents shouldve known!! black ppl warn "our" kids abt outside...they should too!

  • Nik

That's because we don't fool ourselves about what they think of us.

  • LuvMyBrownSkin?

The police tore it apart and that's why it looks like that. If it had been little Billy Ray we wouldn't be discussing this.

  • Nik

He's lucky it wasn't me on the scene. I'd be up that butt looking for a remote. Don't play widdit. Spread 'em, son.

  • http://sandrarose.com SandraRose

I've never seen a clock inside a briefcase with wires hanging off it. Have you? Yet the media ridiculed the school and police for overreacting to a "clock" when there should be zero tolerance for children bringing anything into the school that resembles a bomb or a weapon.

  • http://sandrarose.com SandraRose

Please believe that ISIS is right here in America teaching these little kids to desensitize Americans by bringing homemade devices into schools. Once teachers let down their guards, you will see real bombs being brought into schools.

  • Nik

That's exactly what I thought; test run. We keep making light of the wrong stuff in our effort to be PC. Err on the side of caution always!

  • http://sandrarose.com SandraRose

Exactly. Then Obama tells the Jr. Jihadist to bring his "cool clock" to the White House.

  • http://sandrarose.com SandraRose

Being too PC is what's going to get children killed. Now the next time a Muslim kid brings anything suspicious to school, teachers will be too afraid to question him.

  • http://sandrarose.com SandraRose

I updated this post with the Pop Tart "gun" that got a kid suspended from school. No media outrage or White House invitation because the kid wasn't Muslim.

  • BRING THE PAYNE

Hello Aun'Tea, sumone very near and dear to me,doesn't believe that things Obama put into place.ex.OBAMA CARE won't be undone when he leaves office.

  • Nik

That kind of subtlety in regards to testing our reactions is what causes 9/11s in some form or another. Regarding feelings will cost this country again.

  • Amilia A Lee

The clock was made out of a briefcase, wires, and a circuit board. No form of "explosive" was even found. At the very least the "engineering" teacher should have known what he was looking at. Does this teacher even have an engineering degree?

  • ???

This selective outrage is killin me!?So..so you can bring national attention to Ahmad and his bomb like contraption AND invite him to the White House but you on mute about our kids being gunned down like animals in the street? Sweet!

  • ???

Let that had been one of ours in the hood tho! Not that that's our thing but something that resembles a weapon...dead!

  • WiserWords2

This just goes to show you how ignorant some of our educators are. No wonder our kids are lagging educationally behind so many other countries.

Do you think they would have reacted the same if a white child had brought in the same thing? I can't believe people are trying to justify their bigotry.

  • WiserWords2

Has he been mute or have you been playing deaf and dumb?

  • WiserWords2

There was media outrage. That's how we know about it.

  • jasmine_tigerlily

I'm Muslim and have no problem with them questioning the weird bomb-like clock. What I don't like is that feeling that it would not have been considered suspicious if it was a kid of another race or religion... If caution is to be taken make sure it's towards EVERYONE. While I think it's great to encourage great minds and in no way do I think little Muslim kids are being trained in America to do evil, parents should not be oblivious to how the country views Muslims. While most of us are normal and don't use a peaceful religion to justify the evil already existing in our hearts, some Muslims ( at least that's what they call themselves) have ill intentions and have given the rest of us a burden to bear. The parents should have told him to keep it at home and explained how it could be taken and why... The same way parents of young black men should educate their kids about how they need to conduct themselves with severe caution when dealing with police... It's not right that people are prejudice , but it's real and we have to act accordingly to remain safe and secure.

  • Linda NaeNae Owens

What if this were a test run just to see what reaction it would get check any other suitcase clocks check them all

  • jasmine_tigerlily

Seriously because he's Muslim.... He did the equivalent of the old potatoe-light-bulb science project, it's just the 2015 version because kids today are su much more advanced when it comes to technology. Ppl are taking this so far because he's Muslim. I get the sensitivity because of A**holes who call themselves Muslims torturing and killing ppl. As a Muslim it hurts me to know that if I have a child he can't be creative and innovative because he's Muslim... Ask yourself if it had been a little white/black boy would teachers have been so suspicious...I understand why ppl are prejudice towards Muslims and sometimes it hurts because I have never thought or have known anyone to think about hurting anyone just because they don't share my beliefs.... I have a family, we are just like any other family, we love each other and don't wish any harm on any human being. But we also have to walk around knowing that just because there are ppl doing evil things in the name of my beloved religion, ppl expect that evil from me and many other Muslims. I've grown up here and so has my whole family, how does my religious beliefs make me any less a part of this country. Why are we looked upon as dangerous when all we're doing is living like any other family. Please everyone consider this when you make these assumptions about a Muslim.

  • Linda NaeNae Owens

I say check them all if it looks suspicious entirely too much going on right now I'd rather apologize later than cry later

  • jasmine_tigerlily

I'm fine with checking it all so long as we're not singling out Muslims. Last I checked more non Muslims have committed terrorist acts in schools. I get the reality of the situation. I'm just saddened because it's the reality of Muslims in this country to be suspected of being terrorists.... I imagine it's the same way a black mother would be saddened that she has to tell her boy he may be suspected of being a "thug" because of his skin color and clothing preference.

  • the guest

Yes it does. The teachers were actually too lenient. If I were a teacher responsible for other people's children, I would have cleared the classroom or called an emergency fire drill. Then called the police to check it out. Why are they acting like teenaged kids haven't shot up schools before. And if it was a bomb and went off? Better safe than sorry.

  • Linda NaeNae Owens

Did you see anything in my comment that said I was singling anyone in particular no so have a great day you seem more on pushing that issue I said all that's exactly what I mean have a good 1

  • the guest

Homeschooling is the wave of the future.

  • the guest

An apology is one thing. A phone call, maybe a letter. But a White House invitation is an extreme reaction and presidential bias against law enforcement and educators who were in this case doing their job to protect children. An adult didn't shoot up Columbine. Those kids were building arsenals in the basement for months right under their parents noses.

  • the guest

    Exactly.

  • Linda NaeNae Owens

How do you compare the two their killing our children this child wasn't even locked up or shot if that were one of ours that really could be more of a possibility they suspected it was a BOMB and he was shot ours have no WEAPON shot see the big difference

    These race stories fawking blows...???

  • jeniefrumdabloc™

What people don't realize Obama care was a republican idea from the jump! Lol ole Mitt proposed Damn near the exact same idea before Obama ??????, it's obvious the reason it's not being accepted... When he is out of office they will make minor changes... Rename it .... The goal is to wipe or tarnish this man's name ....

  • jeniefrumdabloc™

I feel threatened more by these local terrorists.. such as some police, and these other criminals roaming the streets !

  • jeniefrumdabloc™

Bawahahhah ????? Chile... Rofl! I was asking the same thing

  • jasmine_tigerlily

I know why I said what I did, and why I made that comparison. Do you know how many times Muslims who are doing nothing are stopped because they look "suspicious". Or that a few months ago there was a white man who lived next door to a Muslim family and shot 3 college kids barely out of high school, execution style in the head because they supposedly parked in his spot. Or the thousands of Muslims being tortured and killed by ISIS in Syria, causing thousands to flee and leave their homes penniless. We worry about these evil terrorists too, because they don't care for Real Muslims who aren't with that messed up version of Islam their pushing. No one talks about this because many ppl think it's ok, because we're all probably terrorists. I am not saying you feel this way, but just because no one talks about Muslims getting beat up and harassed because of their beliefs in America doesn't mean it's not happening. The same way there are far more unarmed black folks getting shot by police then they talk about in the media. Im frustrated because these sickos make it so that a whole religion with people of many races gets blamed for the sins of others, and ppl think it's ok.

  • jeniefrumdabloc™

Sandra this post got the people going ??never mind racism will always be in this country and always have... I'm done with this particular topic because obviously this shyt is a Damn smoke screen for other shyt! Pay attention!

  • jasmine_tigerlily

I'm sorry if you thought I was accusing you of singling out. It was more a comment on what I've seen many others saying about the story and my frustrations on the situation because this is not new to me. I'm all for security and I agree with you better safe than sorry. You have a good one as well.

  • jasmine_tigerlily

And by the way I'm an African Muslim not an "Arab" Muslim ( not that there is anything wrong it's just a fact) so I know what it is to be a black women in this country. I just don't have a son and I know there is a different struggle black men must face in this country and can only imagine what mothers must feel worrying about their boys. I know this boy is fine and thankfully no one was physically harmed, but with the way tensions are so high about this issue with security do you really imagine that ppl are not gonna start taking action like Zimmerman. Those who don't know the difference between a normal American Muslim and these retards who kill for no reason. The media hyping this up doesn't help either, especially when families are still hurting over the killings of those innocent marine soldiers, or the recent 9/11 anniversary. I'm sorry if you felt I was comparing this particularly story with the slaying of unarmed black men because that wasn't my intent. I was speaking on a broader issue because I see comments sometimes and it hurts that ppl feel that way and rarely make the distinction between those crazies and the rest of us.

  • jeniefrumdabloc™

    ????

  • Linda NaeNae Owens

I hadn't heard about that So tragic that disgusting and ignorant all I'm saying is yes they do harass but I don't know about y'all being regularly gunned down as ours are no dispute from me that they harass people of color but it seems black & brown are for target practice.

  • jasmine_tigerlily

An apology from those involved sure. If the clock was safe, then explain to the student what was wrong and apologize for arresting him. You're absolutely right, the White House getting involved is waaaay waaaay too much. All kids today are extremely volatile, if someone bullies them, brain washes them, or they're racist, it goes so far and gets deadly quick. They were being cautious and that's ok, I would be nervous if any kid brought it, although it's sad that we have to feel that way cuz he was just being creative and wanting to show his work. The world is messed up.

  • Linda NaeNae Owens

I totally get where your coming from I apologize as well I by no means want us to have bad taste if you will with one another we are in this struggle together , what they want is to pit us against one another I'm very receptive to most other than who's out to hurt them I have no tolerance

  • jasmine_tigerlily

Ima do that when I have kids. Did you know a substitute teacher gave a 17yr old a BJ on her first day on the job..... Wth

  • jasmine_tigerlily

I understand and you're right. It's an apademic and I feel so sad for these mothers and families. Tired of seeing parents outliving their teen kids for no good reason.

  • jasmine_tigerlily

We good. I was not clear in my reply and what I was referring to, got too heated and in my feelings. You're absolutely right we all have to support and stick together.

  • Linda NaeNae Owens

Absolutely the order is completely off its the old still here and the young going absolutely frightening & frustrating

  • Well.well$well

Doesn't look like a clock....At all. I don't think this was about his ethnicity/religion....It DOES look suspect AF...

  • jasmine_tigerlily

Did you hear about police raiding the home of a black family last year and accidently killing their 7yr old child while she was sleeping. She was shot in the head when they charged in after throwing a flash bang into the room....it was a suspected dope den.... Which I get is their job, but how do you open fire without even looking at what you're shooting at.....they didn't even check and apparently it was evident due to the toys strewn about that a child could be present...I cried when I heard it last year... She was a baby sleeping. Wth

  • Pebbles

    I agree!!!!

  • Linda NaeNae Owens

Yes he said the grandmother pushed the gun and he got off along with so many more they don't care

  • OpinionHated

That kid weigh all of 90 pounds - I would have just asked him what the phuck is dat and when he said a clock I would have given him the side eye and full nesloned him... I'm torn on this cause I think more kids do need to be passionate about science and engineering (cause we suck compared to other industrial nations) but that thing up there look like some Isis inspired mechanism...

  • OpinionHated

  • OpinionHated

That was real - I thought that was a joke - somebody actually got suspended for eating food into a shape... you got to be kidding me - I'd have marched up to that school and tore that principal a new one.... making me leave work for this bullchit.... what... that's so stupid making me angry....

  • Nik

I don't think we should assume it's about race. When you work with kids, it's better to overreact than under react.

  • jasmine_tigerlily

  • Dee

It does look like a bomb. Americans are getting so dayum bent out of shape over everything and doesn't the PRESIDENT have more important issues to take on task than a homemade clock that looks like a bomb! Now they left the doors open for a real crazy kid to take a real bomb to school.

  • Nik

I agree. If it was a bomb, this same teacher would be called a hero for quick thinking and good eyes.

  • Nik

If this happened pre-9/11 we wouldn't even blink. But now we have terrorists blending in with the general population. It could be ANYONE. That's how we got sucker punched on 9/11. No one checked a dayum thing for fear of violating rights. I lost four people from that ish.

  • Zizzle

  • Just Keya

Good morning everyone. Now about up top. I did not read all the comments yet, so if someone already asked this then sorry. But: If the 1st teacher saw it and thought is was a bomb, why did she not call the police then? All she did was ask him NOT to show it to anyone else. So did she think it was a bomb or not? How long was it sitting for BEFORE the alarm went off? And when he finally got to the principal's office with it, how long before they called the cops and the parents? I'm a bit confused, because if you really thought the thing was going to explode and kill yall, why not from jump call the police? Why tell him to not show it and then do nothing else? If the alarm had not of gone off, would this even be news? Because would that teacher ever had said anything?

  • CapoteJones

That looks like a damn bomb to me. F that

  • SameoleJ

He brought it to school to show his teacher and ask for help with it, apparently this isn't his first invention, so they know he isn't that type of child. The first teacher commended him on it, but told him that she thought it should not be shown to anyone else as it could be misinterpreted, which shows that she didn't see him as a threat. When the alarm went off and the other teacher asked him to show it to her, he did. That instructor said it looked like a bomb and he told her, "It is a clock. It looks like a clock to me." When the police questioned him he kept telling them it was only a clock. His parents were not contacted until after he was questioned. We don't know what the clock looked like, prior to the police taking it and taking it apart. The picture up top is the clock, after it was taken in as evidence. FYI, even after they questioned him and ascertained that it was only a clock, they still wanted to charge him with a bomb hoax, this has since been dropped. Interestingly, kids take all kinds of contraptions to Science Fairs, etc., which contain chemicals and wiring.........and look like they are bombs, but they are not accused of this. But, I digress.

  • iWasteTime

    Good Morning Roses.

This was racist pure and simple.
He took the clock to the class and asked for help.
That teacher knew it was a clock and that teacher also knew how it would be perceived and told him to keep it in his back pack. The alarm on the clock went off and he was told to turn off the alarm. Once he went to do it that teacher was "scared" at no time did the school go to the first teacher and say "you saw this? He showed it? Did it work like a clock? was explosives attached? Could explosives be attached? " etc etc etc
Then everything after that violated his minor civil rights. Dillon roof was treated better and that confirmed Terrorist killed 9 people.
We wonder why we have home grown terrorist?
What happened to Ahmed is the same thing that happens to us daily. Inexcusable.

  • A.J.

    Agreed, wassup Jenie?!

  • Buttercup

So he took the clock to school to show his engineering teacher. His engineering teacher said that it was nice and not to show it to anyone else. The clock later beeped while the lad was in his English class. The English teacher was alarmed and got the principal involved. I'm sure this child tried to explain to his English teacher as well as the principal that it's merely a clock and they can even talk to the engineering teacher about it. When not listening to children goes wrong. MacArthur High School may assume a name change to Mohamed High School after the dust settles.

Especially since he used a pencil case for the outer shell. I am still stuck on them repeatedly questioning him on whether it was a clock, even after he said it more than once. i'm willing to guess that they did question that teacher because then they turned around and said they booked him for something akin to making a "fake" bomb. so after a certain point, they knew it wasn't real but they booked him anyway for making something that looks like a bomb. they wanted to put that boy in the damn system but they fugged with the wrong one because no resources will be spared to make an example out of this school and police district.

The Chief wanted the little boy to say it was a bomb. I guess he wanted the little boy to lie. smdh.

  • Just Keya

I saw he was going to be in Atlantic City...but if he is not going to be funny, I don't want to throw my money away...

  • Just Keya

They wanted it to look more bomb like so they threw it in the briefcase. So damn sad.

I was nervous for the prez when he sent that tweet. The clock does not look like a clock. Why is that? Where is the time displayed? If the kid is such a genius why didn't he make it look like a clock? Why was he carrying it around? I think the kid was trying to cause alarm and he just might be a little terrorist in training. The president did not need to weigh in on this situation and he better watch his back if he lets that boy come to the White House.

  • BRING THE PAYNE

Lol,chyle this is a VERY charged conversation between she and I.we were discussing this yesterday.and I had to say the words,MA,DONT COME FOR ME IF I DON'T SEND FOR YOU.she ride like the city bus for OBAMA and she'll profess her love for him as if he were her own son!I mean the space with her and you can become nothing in no time if you say anything other thanYES FANNIE,I LOVE OBAMA!!!!:')))))

  • Sonny Johnson

Why was the kid put in handcuffs and detained. They could have easily kept him in the principal office waited until the parents arrived and then asked the necessary questions. Instead the authorities jump the shark and pretty much made themselves look like assholes

  • Just Keya

No. The picture is what it looked like after they took it apart. It was for school. This kid makes stuff all the time. He is NOT a little terrorist in training.

  • Bootcampgirl

The way I feel this morning, I have zero fcks to give about this boy or his clock/bomb...

  • Zizzle

Here's a pic before the non bomb squad ripped the so-called bomb apart. See the numbers now?

  • Buttercup

But the school and the police did secure his tuition at MIT for undergrad and grad.

  • http://sandrarose.com SandraRose

The teachers were correct to react the way they did. The 1st teacher who saw this thing and didn't confiscate it should be reprimanded. It looks exactly like a briefcase bomb. It doesn't matter if there were no explosives in it. This is not about race. This is about zero tolerance. White kids are suspended from school for making guns out of Pop Tarts and paper! Why should Ahmad be treated any differently?

  • Buttercup

    Why so jaded, boo?

  • Just Keya

    You better know it!

  • http://theempirefiend.tumblr.com/ Bird

I think a ticking briefcase would be suspicious no matter who was carrying it. I really do.

  • Just Keya

Now why isn't this picture posted?! smh

  • iWasteTime

He was making the clock and asked a teacher for help.
It is a work in progress. The internal clock worked though, since the alarm went off

  • jeniefrumdabloc™

chile okay!!!!! I feel fine and I still don't give a fawk

  • http://theempirefiend.tumblr.com/ Bird

If it was a school project why were the police called and the child handcuffed? And why was he carrying it around? And why was the alarm set to go off during a class where the teacher was unaware of the project? Maybe I need to read up on the story. Admittedly this is the first story I read even though I saw the headlines and the president's tweet.

  • BarbieLenox

Lol sorry... looks bomb like to me.

  • iWasteTime

Remember this story and these comments when white people are being "cautious" of suspicious looking black folk.
Now a days we can't be too "cautious" right and that makes the actions against this child justifiable right, so aren't they being "cautious" when they stop and frisk, pull us over DWB, cross the street, grab their purse or any other profile-able offense.

  • Petty_boots

Well I get that you claim you're Muslim and all, but you keep emphasizing black children being taught to be obedient, so then Muslim children should be taught not to tote anything around that resembles a bomb.

  • jeniefrumdabloc™

we need a new post and please lord not about the debates .... please

  • Just Keya

(In the order the questions were asked)
*Because the school over reacted. His own parents were not called.
*He took it to school to get help with it from the teacher
*I don't think the alarm was supposed to go off, again he did need help with it.
*the ENGLISH teacher was un aware. Not the science teacher.

  • Just Keya

I did not even watch. No thanks. I was not up for that. Heard it was a bunch of foolishness though.

  • http://sandrarose.com SandraRose

There is a zero tolerance policy in schools nationwide. If Ahmad is so smart he would not have brought this device that looks like a bomb to school. He took apart a regular clock and screwed the components into a briefcase and took it to school. He told other classmates that it was a bomb. Then he told police he never said that. This is a 14-year-old boy who was looking for a certain reaction from his teachers and his classmates, and that's exactly what he got. Other children have been suspended for making guns out of paper. Race does not play a part in this. The safety of school children comes first!

  • Bootcampgirl

  • Just Keya

How?! The teacher that was supposed to know about the project, did know. The dag on school did not call for bomb sniffing dogs or nothing. No evacuations, nothing. Some bomb scare. And no parents called. Sorry, they are dead wrong. Not one procedure followed.

  • http://sandrarose.com SandraRose

It doesn't matter if the police tore it apart. It looked like a briefcase bomb. The school and the police were correct to react the way they did. There is a zero tolerance policy in place that covers anything that looks like a weapon. He had no business bringing what looks like a briefcase bomb to school. He knew exactly what he was doing when he took a regular clock apart to make this thing. He was looking for a certain reaction, and that's what he got. This will teach other kids to leave such devices at home unless a teacher assigns them to bring it to school.

  • BiggE

Yes the clock does look suspect. But once it was determined to be an actual clock why not admit the wrong doing and keep it moving. America does this thing when even through people know a wrong was admitted, instead of just admitting error they just pretend they were in the right the whole time. Most times to flat out deny descrimination took place.

  • LipstickANDlace

I'm sorry but not sorry looks like he practicing for bigger ???boom

  • BRING THE PAYNE

Gm,lady, well I'm gone hit back with,"well do we gotta start looking crazy when whyt PPL come up in our churches and other places when its more of us and less to none of them?"

  • SameoleJ

I was about to say the same thing. Every report, has the officers and others admitting it was a pencil case that was used, but we are getting pictures of larger items.

  • BarbieLenox

Whoa. Look. Nothing you say is going to make me change my mind. It looks bomb like and suspucious TO ME. Period. Now bye.

  • http://sandrarose.com SandraRose

This is not the equivalent of a science project. The boy took apart a regular clock and went to a store and purchased a small briefcase to screw the components into it. What clock have you ever seen inside a briefcase? He knew exactly what he was doing. He was too stupid to realize he could be arrested. I have no sympathy for him. Please don't make this about race when children of other races have been suspended for making guns out of paper and Pop Tarts.

He was not being creative. He took apart a regular clock and built a briefcase bomb without the bomb parts. Zero tolerance policy is clearly not working or this kid would have known better than to bring this to school.

  • http://theempirefiend.tumblr.com/ Bird

I just read one story on CNN and that is not what it said. That is not what the student said. Where did you guys get your details? I don't want to read a million stories. He got arrested because he was evasive with the police when they questioned him at the school. His response to that point was smart azzed. He also said he made the clock to impress the teacher that called police, not his science teacher. Sorry, not feeling this kid at all. My opinion has not changed that he did this on purpose.

  • Zizzle

Better check all your clocks at home, then, cuz they all look like "bombs" on the inside. LOL!

  • MS PEACHES

    Damn did he file bankruptcy?

  • BiggE

And you point? A little girl was put in handcuffs for drawing on the desk was the response was completely egregious? Absolutely, however the little girl actually did do something to intentionally disobey. In this case the boy did not appear to intentionally do anything. To say he did not know the thing could be perceived as a bomb is naive true. My point however is, if no wrong was committed why was he arrested at all? The little kid was a stereotyped, plain and simple. You do know no bomb squad was called in but he was still arrested and authorities are considering charging him with a misdemeanor right?

  • SameoleJ

Exactly, but the clock was in his bookbag, by the teacher's account......how was big was his daggone bookbag? It is too much spinning in this story, to hide the fact that they handled this wrong. I don't they expected his Sudanese father to know his rights and they surely didn't expect this much attention. Hopefully this doesn't scar other children from using their minds constructively.

  • http://theempirefiend.tumblr.com/ Bird

Of course not. But he doesn't know this kid or his motives. I wonder if he has seen interviews with the little smart azz who felt that he didn't even need to explain himself to police when questioned. I have not forgotten 9/11. We need to be vigilant. Folks can't be walking around with ticking briefcases. Period.

It shouldn't have been believed, no difference between a bomb looking like a BOMB. He should have took a picture of it or a video AT HOME and showed the teachers not take the bomb looking clock to school. Obama and those other Facebook idiots should have stayed out of it and fight for a more meaningful cause. Period.

  • Buttercup

    Ahahahahaha!!!!

  • http://theempirefiend.tumblr.com/ Bird

Yes. If police were called for such a device on any student and when questioned about what it was, the little smart azz kept saying "it's a clock" with no further explanation, the same thing would and should have happened. This little shyt is such a smart azz that even his lawyer had to shut him down during an interview. The president made a terrible mistake riding for this kid. His intelligence is no excuse for rewarding him for his inappropriate actions. The 9/11 bombers learned how to fly commercial jets. Should they be rewarded for that?

He made inventions all through middle school, in high school, he wanted to impress the engineering teacher and made the clock. Teacher said, cool, but asked that he not show it to anyone else (and was right in his thought that it would be viewed the wrong way). Clock went into book bag, alarm went off in another class, teacher saw it and felt it looked like a bomb, student told her it was not. The police were called and questioned him...police said, "We asked him what it was. He said it was a clock, He was not forthcoming with any more information, so we detained him." Um, how about a clock is a clock. If you ask me what something is and I say what it is, how am I being evasive if I have no further explanation or is it that you don't like the one I gave you? I guess my children were evasive too, growing up, because they would tell anybody in a NY minute, "I am not saying anything until my mother gets here."

  • ABbaby

I'm not saying that's how it went, but the boy wouldn't answer the questions that they were duty bound to ask. If a child brings a clock that resembles a bomb to school but you KNOW it's not a bomb, how about you take it and keep it in the office then contact his parents and explain to THEM and the child that he should not bring his inventions to school unless asked or given permission to do so. Encourage him/her to be creative but work within set guidelines at school. You do not have a child handcuffed and taken to juvenile hall. They over reacted. It's not about conservative or liberal it's about humanity and common sense.

  • Datsmdubya2u2

Obama is right to mollify any people out there on the fringe who might take the treatment of this boy to heart in the most extreme way. And use it for an excuse to take revenge. Not that such a person was not already waiting for any excuse but the POTUS is right to try and get ahead of it by inviting the kid to a science and technology event that was ALREADY SCHEDULED.

I dont care that the police were called...did the kid have to be handcuffed?

  • http://theempirefiend.tumblr.com/ Bird

    Big time.

  • chachadigi

This is the reason why we are in last place in the world for education! Use common sense people! Yes the clock looks weird, but does that justify handcuffing, taking him to the police station, and then suspending the young man? Use your thinking cap! Ask questions! This is straight racism at it's finest and I hope this young man's family sues the pants off Irving ISD.

  • CrazySexyKool

The 0 tolerance policy needs to be revised. Kids are being expelled and arrested for things so minuscule. It creates other issues that could have been avoided.

  • chachadigi

Ahmed gets the last laugh because in about 10 years he'll be somewhere super successful while others will be dreaming about that type of success. Yes, all because he made an alarm clock from scratch at 14.

  • WHITTYwithWORDS

Well...one he had an engineer teacher who KNEW what it was....they could have spoken with him.

That little boy is African and Muslim and that played a BIG part of it.

  • chachadigi

How?! Most American are too dumb and LAZY to home school their kids.

  • Savoy7

M.I.T./Harvard, Facebook Headquarters & the White House is offering this young genius a visit. Take this extraordinary opportunity Ahmed.

  • chachadigi

The boy had on a NASA shirt!!! How dumb can ppl be?!

  • Nanny

Exactly! As soon as he came to school he showed it to the engineering teacher.

  • Vixen

We must look at the bigger picture. There are way to many killings in schools. To me it would not have mattered if he was of another race. If I was a teacher and saw this, I would have done the same thing. The teacher not only thought about their life but the many lives of others. Too much is going on in this world involving children of different ages causing harm to others. Safety in schools is the number one priority now. If that was indeed a bomb and children were killed, they would've blamed the school. Is it me or is it to early for Science projects?

  • Madonna Cayes

but why would we have to imagine the cry of something that was not the case? that comment of yours sounded so ignorant. this boy was obviously discriminated against. he was questioned without his parents, hand cuffed for building a clock and these school officials thought he built a bomb but FAILED to evacuate the school or call the bomb squad. who were they really protecting? they tried to force him into confessing into building a bomb. so you expect for Obama to side with the school? it is no wonder you hide behind your blog and throw stones! your exact small minded way of thinking and ignorant comment is the same thing slave owners, non-colored racists and KKKs used to kill, torture, humiliate and prevent blacks from succeeding. Sandra I wonder if your anger and ignorance is a direct result of your ugliness? There's an old saying that goes the rock in the water doesn't know the pain of the rock in the sun. you are the rock in the water. until this happens to you, you will never understand

  • Nanny

Then why wasn't the school evacuated? Why would you put a bomb in your desk?

  • LibraGirl

    Truth!!!!!

  • Nanny

You new aged Negropeans stay cooning for the right. See how far it gets us as a people.

  • LibraGirl

Finally someone with some sense. Thank You for typing this so I don't have to.

  • LibraGirl

Hey Sandra girl. I do think the adults should have done a better job in handling this situation.

  • Zizzle

It seems she stopped short of seeing/thinking the "bigger picture" all the way through.

  • Sassy24

Having seen the pic of the actual clock, I see this is a bait post.

  • chachadigi

AND suspended, after being taken to the police station! They didn't have this conversation in the principal's office. I would have lost my mind on those ppl for traumatizing my child.

  • Zizzle

Fear and paranoia... the hallmarks of racism. Way to expose yourself. ?

  • Sassy24

It wasn't in a brief case

  • Low E. {CIRCA 1908}

CAN'T SAY I'M UPSET ABOUT THE CAUTION, BUT THIS IS A KID. HE LOOKS LIKE BILL NYE FOR CRYING OUT LOUD. THAT'S THE SCIENCE GEEK IN ME MAYBE...

  • Chellie141508

YEAH your dialogue only make sense if that is how it went how do you know they didn't approach him with an accusatory tone because they saw a Muslim I n front of them this is Texas after all don't be so naive..

  • Readytochokemothernatureonout

I would of looked at that crazy too

  • AmericanMade

Right, how soon we forget 9/11

  • Mister Fantastic

OK, I get it. It looks like a movie bomb. Keyword "movie". On the cool, I think that was part of what he was trying to portray. But once the school teachers and administration found his intentions were innocent, why handcuff, arrest, and perp walk him? People play too much!

  • Zizzle

    ...

  • Mrs. Soul Touch

Ha. When (white) David Hahn made a NUCLEAR REACTOR in his backyard and homeland security thought it was cool and even offered to help. Ironic.

  • Toni ToniToni

Well, Now I can understand why. That ish looks alike a friggin Clock for the B 0 M B like they have in movies, 1908 Style though. His parents shoudl've probably rethought this one and sent him back to the drawing board or something,.......These days, You don't know what's going on..

  • the guest

Wholeheartedly agree. If I was a parent at that school I'd want that teacher to do exactly as she did to take this matter seriously. Ahmad is being treated differently because it is now deemed unequivocally racist to suspect any Muslim of possible terrorist activity even though this country in under Muslim terrorist microscope. Black folks need to understand Muslim terrorists don't see black people as exempt from their agenda. Black folks thinking brown is brown black is black. Not to Muslim terrorists.

  • the guest

Me too. At first I had in my head a homemade clock like he built a kitchen clock. Then saw the BRIEFCASE, come on. I think this kid is playing naive and he knew exactly what he was doing. He also knows he can pull the Muslim card in the future.

I don't make assumptions about anybody and your kids can innovate and create till the cows come home. Just don't bring that chit to school unsolicited or unexpected. I don't care what race or religion they are. I am a parent and I want my children and all the children in our schools to be safe.

That boy knew what he was doing. He wanted to scare people, he even timed the alarm to go off during class.

I watched Ahmed's body language and facial expressions during his news conference and I believe he's a budding sociopath.

Obama needs to learn to keep his mouth shut.

  • http://sandrarose.com SandraRose

You have eyes. You can see the picture of the case above. Does that look like a pencil case to you?

  • SameoleJ

My eyes tell me that he would have no room in his book bag for his books, if that was in there. But okay, I'll play...he took all his books out of the book bag, to make room for the briefcase up top and carried his books in his hands all day. Okay, makes sense.

  • FlyMiss

The engineering teacher was the first he showed it to. He knew it was not a bomb. But he still stood by and let the little boy still get arrested when he knew the truth

  • the guest

Thank you for this information. I thought he looked a little smug in the photo. I knew it he was playing naive and knew full well what he was doing.

  • the guest

Those teachers target 12 year old boys let alone 17. Imagine somebody's 12 year old son getting a grown pedophile teacher pregnant or getting an STD from a grown pedophile teacher. Schools are not monitoring the teachers well enough.

  • the guest

This is true. Brilliant analogy. But in these cases the white kids have been getting punished for less with no apology and no invitation to the White House as Ms. Sandra has been pointing out.

  • ???

Nah bish I'm too damm busy being scared to death for me and my children everytime mf time we head out the door. I'm too busy hoping and praying that one of don't get profiled for no got damm reason. I'm too busy wondering if one of us gonna get shot for just BEING. Now the little attention he has brought to light simply ain't enough and it damm sure took him long enough AND it damm sure ain't stopped these senseless killings. WE NEED MORE THEN!!!!!!!

It might be more productive to start locally. What are your elected officials doing to combat drugs, guns and gangs?

  • Vixen

My opinion and my thoughts are just that.

  • Vixen

Thank you. I'm not an engineer and I would have likely thought the same.

  • Vixen

I stand by what I said from the story I read. There was no mention of a teacher or anyone putting anything in a desk. Like I said it doesn't matter or would've mattered what the child's race was in my opinion. With 9/11 just passing, it has a lot of people on edge. Yes, the teacher based the situation off his last name etc. Lots of schools do not evacuate because they don't want to cause an alarm but will put a school on lockdown or nothing at all and use the precaution they used.

  • Nanny

I have read several articles on this story not just Sandra write up. The teacher put the clock in her desk. You don't want to cause alarm but you think everyone's life is in jeopardy??? Are you white? Or a negropean?

  • Unita Lucinda “Lucy” Freebush

    Ok? You know it.

  • Vixen

Didn't read Sandra's article..sorry sweetie. I'm neither honey and I see my opinion has your panties up yours.

  • Vixen

This is no different than one school miles away from me not notifying parents, evacuating the school or anything after a policeman employed at the school broke up a fight and notice his revolver was missing. After a few hours looking through the school, they told him to go home and check. That's where he left it but according to the school, they took precaution. I'm not down playing discrimination but like I said if it were me no matter the race I would have probably done the same thing. Notice the word "I". Since this is my opinion, this will be my last post because I'm not trying to convince you or anyone else to agree with me. It's just that..my opinion. You can read and keep going or do as you please but there will be no back and forth with you. You'r not worth it.

  • Chocolate Bliss

Components baby. That briefcase looks just like an IED and I don't blame that teacher for one second for calling it in. Sometimes people test the waters to see how far they can get with something. If he knows how to make a home made clock, I guarantee you he knows how to make a home made bomb. They have a lot of the same components.

  • jasmine_tigerlily

I Didn't make it about race, Muslims are of all races . I did not realize he took it that far, he really should have known better then at age 14. But as I said in other comments, the parents should have sat him down and explained why it was a bad idea and how it would be perceived. And lets be real it was taken a little more seriously because his name is Mohamed.

  • Guest

Sandra, they kept trying to get that boy to admit that it was a bomb and he kept saying that it was a clock. Other students have already stated how involved he was in the middle school robotics program, fixing school projector screens, etc. The engineering teacher should have confiscated the device instead of acknowledging that 'Ahmad did a good job, just don't show it to other teachers.' (I had wondered what the eng. teachers race is but I know for sure that he isn't muslim. I have heard far and few people mentioning this eng. teacher where circuit boards are common gadgets) I've had a bad experience with my daughter about 15yrs ago at the same school when I scheduled a parent/teacher conference to schedule tutoring. To my surprise, the young lady came in, introduced herself and said she was 'finst' to call me. I said that I know she didn't use a scholastic upgrade of the back woods slang 'fittin. I informed her that I grew up in NY and my mom worked as school secretary for 30yrs and I have never been approached with such a stereotypical term from an educator in my life. I'm here asking for help for my child but your ignorance is an attempt for people to be made to feel inferior, and it's unacceptable. They made an attempt to attack this boys psyche which should be obvious since they made no attempts to vacate the premises of students, denied him access to his parents, attempted to get him to sign a written statement with a threat that if he didn't he would be expelled, and lastly keeping the 'bomb in the school and police car without calling the bomb squad. Racism at it's finest.

  • jasmine_tigerlily

I did state that in previous comments. I think that his parents know better even if he didn't. I'm and aware of how some americans perceive muslims and I'm careful and so is my brother who is in his early 20's and is a young black man and muslim. It's sad but it is the reality of today.

what at Kiera Wilmot, he didnt invite this sister, when she got arrested and expelled for her science project... sell out don't care about yall, he stans more for whites, immigrants, and real heavy for the LGBT.

I wonder, if a kid took a radio like this to Obama's girls
school...if the "SS", did not inspect the clock...what
would Obama would do? He is just like playboy Bill...

he was in the white house? He did crap.... Cindy A.

    I agree! Cindy A.

  • gary allen

Just in case, you do not know what a briefcase or
other makes...the radio was inside not outside of
his briefcase or small boxed with a handle.... Guess
what? Do you remember 911? These diaper heads,
were here with expired passports, one was allowed to
practice flying a plane after hours...the security guard
knew this;however, this diaper head was not stopped!
Obama, does not care about all the blacks in Chicago...
I have never saw or hear of him or Michelle...being

Since you're so interested in facts now, did you remove your post lying that the judge in the Kim Davis case was appointed by President Obama? No? I didn't think so.

  • Chocolate Bliss

I bet you if this was a black person not one arab muslim would be hopping mad about this. All black and brown people ain't your people.

  • Antsy Kuhnwisse

Wiser Words2, I've been following this zero tolerance thing for 20 years now -- I used to put out a youth-related publication -- and it's clear to me that kids of all races and religions have suffered from it. It's not a minority race or religion thing -- it's an AGE thing. It's a school thing.

Not saying it's *impossible* that there was an anti-Muslim or anti-black element in the school's reaction in this case, but it is certainly also possible, from my observation, that there wasn't any.

  • Antsy Kuhnwisse

Eww, no it isn't. Why do you say that?

  • Nik

When I read the report, all I read is that the clock looked suspicious, not the kid. The fact that he was Muslim was the icing on the cake. It very well could have been, though. Either way, it's about safety for all involved. If I had a child in that classroom and knew the teacher didn't report something that didn't look right, I'd have some strong words.

  • Rose Sarver

Is this the role Obama wats other to follow. Bring a bomb like item to school so one can be invited to the White House.

  • LuvMyBrownSkin?

If this was a suspected bomb then why wasn't the bomb squad called or the school evacuated?

  • LuvMyBrownSkin?

Then evacuate the school and have a bomb squad come and safely remove it.

  • http://batman-news.com Roderick2011

    That's kinda stupid.
The element of surprise is what gets people everytime.
Did the Columbine kids do a test run?
    What about Adam Lanza?
It's kinda stupid of a kid to do a test run by bringing something into class and drawing so much attention to it.

He had already shown it to his engineering teacher so your point is beyond stupid.

  • http://batman-news.com Roderick2011

BTW if you had any common sense the picture above was taken AFTER the cops took the clock apart and weren't able to put it back together so what you see in the picture is the result

  • Linda NaeNae Owens

    If only your dad
and mom had this discussion on really whom had sense this wouldn't even be taking place btw find any bridge and take a flying 1 when you learn to address a person with the use of common sense then but not before will I give you anymore acknowledgement

  • Kiki

This is just terrible. Some kids study electronics. Some kids prefer that over killing creatures in a video game. Just because YOU can't tell the difference between a clock and a bomb doesn't mean Ahmed wasn't being creative. He did absolutely nothing to show that he had ill intent. Stop putting people into boxes that you want them to belong into! Caitlyn Jenner is a girl, Ahmed Mohamed is a kid who makes electronic projects.

  • Kiki

    she's incredibly close minded
