Above are 2 photos of ‘Walking Dead’ actress Dania Gurira before the network’s overzealous makeup artist gave her the blackface treatment. Have you noticed that those of us who are 100% black are never dark enough for Hollywood?

Whether it’s Lupita Nyong’o (pictured above) or Viola Davis, black actors are never black enough by Hollywood’s standards. Meanwhile, light skinned, long hair celebrities like Rihanna or Beyonce are barely touched by the makeup artist’s brush.

They had one color for dark skin Ruddydark is what is was called. When I became manager I politely went and purchased make up that could be mixed and worked for all of my sisters that sat in our chairs. smh.. looks like they used ruddy on her

The differences aren’t even really noticeable. Different cameras and lighting gives off difference effects. Black people knows this very well lol…. Dead as hell at the mention of Glamour Shots. Do they still have those. Had a chick give me one of hers in high school. She was dark brown sister that wore purple in the photo. For why did the entire photo have a purple hue. Wifey found it years ago in a box I forgot about and asked was I still pining over Barnie. So mean, yet such an accurate description.

For a small minority the colors match dead on.. for others we have other undertones to our skin and placing Mac on it with its red undertone to it leaves us look a shade under or over.

I have MAC foundation. But every since I came back from Orlando, it’s not working for me anymore. I don’t know if it’s cause my tan is still here. But it doesn’t blend like it did before I left. I’m going to wait to buy more cause in the winter I get pale af.

Slightly off-topic: I was an NW45 groupie until I got turned on (or out!) to Lancome. I am a CONVERT! Both the foundation and powder have more red-based hues and it makes dark brown beauties like us – pop! Get a free makeover and let me know what you think. I used to wear Fashion Fair before I started really wearing makeup. Brown Sugar lipstick was everything to me in high school. I actually never wore foundation until my wedding day. God blessed me with pretty good skin. I wear it now cause I just like wearing makeup to work.

You tried it though….lol If a black company came out with the same quality makeup as MAC is use them too.

Rihanna and Beyonce do not fit the LSLH category. Rihanna is not light skinned or long haired. She’s light brown Afro Caribbean with green eyes and short chemically relaxed hair. Beyonce is light skinned creole but she is also not long haired naturally.

Hello! Somewhat newish, more long-time lurker, previous commenter and life got in the way…one thing I will say is she’s definitely gorgeous, but as a former professional makeup artist (of over a decade), the disparities in these two shots can come from a handful of things…MANY make up artist (even some of the brown ones sadly) do not know how to match brown skin (or the mix and match for the many undertones that come with it) for photography and other non-natural light (hence the first picture looking like a metallic mess, along with no highlighting to bring her natural hues and undertones up and not make her appear so flat)….if you’re not in a circumstance and actually know what you’re doing or have someone tapping you on the shoulder like “nah breh” many directors will only see that “s/he looks well enough in character lets shoot!” and not send someone back to make-up for color corrections.

I had one done and yea they told me to come in with my hair clean and that’s it. So I wash and just blow dry no press no flat iron just bushy. Needless to say they just bumped a few strands and had my chit looking big as fugg. The pose that they had me do made the overall pic come out nice but yea never again..and that chit COST!

Photo on left is of Danai Gurira who plays Michonne on The Walking Dead show. She is suppose to look weathered and rough from being in Georgia during the zombie apocalypse (sun, rain, & snow). The photo on right is obviously from a red carpet appearance for something. If anything her make-up artist should be questioned if anyone has an issue with her appearance with the right photo. At any rate in both photos she is beautiful as well as Lupita Nyong’o.
