Ne-Yo On Nuptials to IG Model: “We Can’t Wait to Share Our Life Together”

Singer/songwriter Ne-Yo married his baby mother, Crystal Renay, over the weekend. The 28-year-old singer married the Instagram model, who is nine months pregnant, at the luxury Terranea Resort in Rancho Palos Verdes, California on Saturday.

Ne-Yo didn’t invite Monyetta Shaw, the mother of his 2 children. So Shaw took to Instagram.com to explain why she didn’t allow their children to attend their father’s wedding (something about a scheduling conflict with their school).

Ne-Yo gave an exclusive interview to People magazine, saying: “We can’t wait to start our life together. We’re looking forward to just being each others’ best friend.”

About meeting Crystal, he said: “I kind of knew right away. From that first encounter, I knew there was something different about her, something special.”

Ne-Yo didn’t mention if he made Crystal sign a prenup. That would be a good idea considering his run of bad luck with women over the past decade.

I don’t think it’s about “shame” as much as it is about Black men and women, specifically, taking personal accountability and responsibility for what we do, how we do it and why we do it. And the comparisons between what others do versus what we do need to stop, unless someone is actually pitting us against another. Ex: If white women want to be loose as a goose, that’s on them. They’re not *my* concern/priority. Black girls and women are *my* concern/priority. I want my sisters to not just look good. I want them to feel good. I want them to be good. I want them to then take that goodness and extend it to others, but not before they learn how to feel good about self. I want them to get to know who they are before they venture out into the world trying to get to know some little rock head boy or football head man. Play sports, take sewing classes, study law, study architecture, study medicine… But do something other than open your vault to every stiff breeze that comes along. And really absorb the fact that while we all make mistakes, some mistakes simply cannot be corrected.

If more girls and women would really allow these things to sink in and they truly absorb them, we could accelerate to such magnificent heights.

I used to have this laundry list of what I consider my “ideal” mate. I’ve dumbed it down so much because the more you complicate the list, the more you complicate life. I will NOT relax my standards for a damn body. But rather than seeking a 6’1″ or 6’2″, 225 lbs., brown-to-dark skinned, muscular, etc. man, I want someone who is just cool. Cool as a fan. Cooler than a polar bear’s toenails. Be chill. Be the homie, but the homie who knows how to deal with me. Don’t try to “understand” me. Don’t go out of your way to try to “please” me. Just be yourself and let me love you. When I find HIM, it’s a wrap. I’m shutting it down and once it’s done, I’m not doing it again. Sweatergawd. ?

Until then, I will just continue to build and grow in every aspect of my life, so I can reciprocate the goodness that I expect to receive.

Women who are past a certain age are still club hopping, twerking for likes and follows on social media, spending money to look “cute,” but not to better themselves, etc. No, ma’am. If they’re young and still have a way to go, I understand their exploration. But when you have children, especially girls, who have a memory and are of the age to comprehend and/or question what you’re doing (because they’re learning), you sure as h3ll better be mindful of your actions!
