Monty Williams

Ingrid Williams, the wife of former New Orleans Pelicans head coach Monty Williams, died from injuries she suffered when her SUV collided head on with another car on Tuesday.

Williams, 44, was driving her SUV in Oklahoma City when another car crossed the center lane and collided head on with her SUV.

The mother-of-five was pronounced dead at OU Medical Center on Wednesday morning.

Three of the couple's 5 children were traveling with their mother in the SUV when the accident occurred. The 3 children survived the crash with non-life threatening injuries.

The other driver died in the accident. Her dog who was riding on her lap was also killed. A third driver who was involved in the accident escaped with minor injuries.

Monty Williams is now an assistant coach with the Oklahoma City Thunder NBA team. The team's front office released a statement on Wednesday that reads in part:

“Our thoughts and prayers are with Monty and his family, and we will support him in every way possible. We know the entire community of Oklahoma City has them in their prayers.”

Deadspin.com -- The 44-year-old was traveling with three of her children north on S Western Avenue around 8 p.m. Tuesday when her sports utility vehicle was struck head-on by a southbound car which went left of center. The driver of the car, Susannah Donaldson, 55, was pronounced dead at the scene. Her dog was riding in her lap and was also killed. Mai Nguyen, 59, was driving a third vehicle that hit the car driven by Donaldson. Nguyen was not injured. All parties involved were wearing seat belts.

Do not stand at my grave and weep.
I am not there, I do not sleep.
I am a thousand winds that blow,
I am the diamond glints on snow.

I am the sunlight on ripened grain
I am the gentle autumn rain.

When you awaken in the morning's hush,
I am that swift uplifting rush
Of quiet birds in circled flight.
I am the soft star that shines at night.

Do not stand at my grave and cry,
I am not there, I did not die.

Some people take driving too damn lightly. Cut out the distractions. There is no reason why you should have a dog in your lap while driving. That's ridiculous.

  • http://www.sandrarose.com Django the God

They trying to blame it on the dog...

  • harley_quinn2.0

It ain't the dog fault that his owner is a dumbazz

  • E Love

I was going to make this same comment, but I continued to read the comments, because I knew someone else had to be thinking what I was thinking. Now, I'm up-voting yours.

  • Alicia.Ashe

Sad. My condolences to his family.

  • Vonn

    Mutley did it.

  • Ni Ni

I see it all the time where i live, yt folk driving with dogs in they lap or hanging out the wiwindow. Instead of writing tickets for loud music, etc. lawmakers should've been proposed a bill banning animals riding in vehicles unsecured. Its a distraction.

  • It’s Taurus Season

Him too man. I read they been married 21 years. My GOODNESS. This stole ALL my thug.

  • Yoni

I read about this this morning. Truly sad.

  • smartchickfl

    God bless her family.

  • Gabriella Greentree

Thank you. Common sense seems to escape some people apparently, but as a dog owner I always harness and secure my puppies when I drive them somewhere. I can see in my mind how that probably went way left very quickly. And it affected sooo many people. It's just sad.

  • Di Ana

Not only are you driving for yourself, but you are also driving for the other nut-jobs that shouldn't be on the road driving to begin with. 10% is you driving and the other 90% is you watching and navigating around all the idiots on the road. What in the hell was that stupid woman doing driving with a dog in her lap!? Stupid a$$!

  • It’s Taurus Season

My daddy told us this when he taught each of us to drive. You not driving just for you. You are driving SADLY for the other crazies out here on the roads. I dont worry about YOUR ability. I worry about theirs.

  • SummerBaby

This!! I tell my kids this also. I'm also the type that hates to be a passenger because I trust my abilities.

  • Readytochokemothernatureonout

My heart goes out to the family. Prayers and condolences.

  • Readytochokemothernatureonout

We were just saying this as the snow started to fall heavily in Cleveland, folks were still driving like it was clear out smh.

  • SameoleJ

    ALL OF THIS!!!

  • It’s Taurus Season

When I see people doing stupid stuff I just shake my head. The dummies who pull around you and speed up and race to the SAME red light EVERYONE at. Stuff like that. My dad would say "now look at that idiot! In a rush to go absolutely NOWHERE. We all at this light TOGETHER. Yet he almost rear ended you, and almost side swiped the car in the far lane. Only to end up at a red light. Dont be stupid like that."

  • YOUR man chose BSweet #ohwell

I'm stuck about that dog bit. That's clearly a distraction. I was raised much the same... you have to defensively drive for the other dummies out there.

  • harley_quinn2.0

I find myself looking out for pedestrians because they do some of the craziest shyt.

  • SameoleJ

Them and the people on bikes- pedal and motor ones.

  • harley_quinn2.0

    Rain,sleet, snow it never fails

  • Di Ana

Exactly... I like how your dad put it.

  • Yoni

Just like crossing the street. You don't look at the lights, you look at the ppl. The lights ain't NEVER killed nobody. I RUN across the street when there is a car approaching. I don't stand on curbs either.

  • YOUR man chose BSweet #ohwell

Folks take pedestrians have the right of way too damn far. They just cross the street, don't look up, don't look left nor right... they just walk.

Por me, pedestrians have the right of way except when they're in the way... which is why I keep good brakes on my car.

  • harley_quinn2.0

    True

  • Locapoca

My Mom used to say, " you're only rushing to get to heaven or hell" when you drive reckless

  • harley_quinn2.0

We're motorcycle heavy here in NC. They are SO SO DUMB some of them. OMG. They scare Dub20 to DEATH. She hates them. She was driving, stopped for gas and came out the store and saw about 15-20 of them ride in, and was like mama YOU gonna have to drive from here. They swerve around you. Stop suddenly. We have a HIGH number of cycle deaths here. A LOT.

    What?! That many?? Mercy!

  • Futuredocdonte

The other driver died in the accident. Her dog who was riding on her lap was also killed.
    ----
Bruh... See. You done killed somebody fckin round with Fido azz in the front seat being a distraction ?

  • YOUR man chose BSweet #ohwell

Or the people who just pull out in front of you. I often say that some people in big SUVs drive like they're in a Honda Civic. Don't swing that big shhhh out in front of me like that.

No ish, a lady pulled out in front of my cousin. My cousin had the green light, the lady was making a right turn. Cousin was half way through the light when the lady pulled out. Things went back and forth because per her and the insurance company, my cousin should've stopped... when she had the green light.

  • Readytochokemothernatureonout

It truly doesn't and it's sad.

  • Yoni

Girl I HATE when I see folks standing at the bus stop ON THE CURB! Damn near in the street. I'm thinking "don't you know folks can jump this damn curb and you'll be done for?"

  • SummerBaby

On Tuesday to be exact my brother & I were in our way to visit a relative in the hospital & a car ran through a stop sign the only way she didn't hit us was for her to drive up in a front yard of a house.

  • It’s Taurus Season

Me too. At least 7 or 8 folks in about 5 years. I was sending @Yoni nem the articles/obits left and right at one time. One of my childhood buddies in a motorcycle club for YEARS. She LOVES EM. I worry SO bad about her.

SO STUPID man. Is your cuz okay? Roads HERE? ARE BAD. My goodness. They have gotten worse more folks we get too. On my way to Brier Creek for lunch. I leave AT 1130 just to avoid the madness.

My ex has been in like 3 accidents. Drives like Grandpa in the car but gets on the bike and is a plum fool. I want to ride but people are crazy.

  • Dee

You never know when your time here is up. Bless her and her family.

  • DivineMsM

    Good morning, all.
This is extremely sad. Prayers out to this family. @locapoca:disqus , I agree with your mom. When I see these rushed drivers, I carry myself accordingly, and as they pass, I go "see you next lifetime." ::badu voice::

  • SameoleJ

It is saddening, especially since they were pretty good dudes and left behind children. At least 4 had good jobs and took care of their children, but loved the bikes.

  • YOUR man chose BSweet #ohwell

Yeah she's okay. The airbag ended up burning her arm. Still battling to get her medical bills and the car paid for because 'she should have stopped'. The roads here are bad and the dang drivers are worse. You have to time stuff to not deal with the foolishness.

  • YOUR man chose BSweet #ohwell

If I'm late, I'm just late. Oh well. I recognize sometimes you are rushed but many people drive like that all the time.

  • harley_quinn2.0

Man I saw these kids by my house literally playing in traffic trying to dodge cars. I told them to get they bytch azz out the damn street. If someone had hit them, I surely would have told the cops about there dumb azz game...You not finna hem nobody up for your stupidity, no sir

  • YOUR man chose BSweet #ohwell

My friends cousin died on his bike last month. Wife, kids, fam, left behind. He was an all around good dude.

This is so tragic! :( R.I.P.

  • YOUR man chose BSweet #ohwell

In my neighborhood, I see kids playing football in the street, across the street but I don't ever see an adult or a parent. I'm lost as to how you let your kids go out and play you're nowhere near by. You know they're not in your backyard so they must but in the front yard.

  • DivineMsM

Afternoon, @bullsweet:disqus very true. As long as I arrive there whole, and in tact.

  • Lovelove

Driving with phucking animals should be illegal! I knew of a situation where a small dog got loose in a car and got down by the gas/brake pedals and the driver lost control. while the driver survived, by wearing a seatbelt, several other ppl died when they were ejected from the car.

  • Lovelove

    So correct!

  • Hot Caddy Girl

Some of you idiots on here are making some really insensitive comments about the woman having the dog in her lap when she lost her life and left behind five children and a husband! Assholes! Those poor children will have to spend the rest of their lives without their mother. It's all fun and games until it happens to you or someone close to you. smh

  • Jeanie

I have to be honest... I ride with my dogs in my lap. I will never EVER do that again. This is a horrible tragedy that didn't have to happen. My thoughts and prayers go out to Monty and his entire family.

  • Mel

Aww man condolences to him and the Fam smh

  • https://www.wattpad.com/user/aleonhart Annie Leonhart

Her dog who was riding on her lap was also killed.

This is why I don't drive with my dog on my lap or hopping around the car. Too much distraction.

  • Let Your Soul Glow

Wow. I'm sorry for your loss, Dubb. That's way too much death. I have a close friend who has gotten into bikes since she's been married the last 10 years. I try not to think about her actually on the road. ?

  • Divame

    The dog caused the accident

  • 7ate9

They need to outlaw dogs from being in the front of cars to me its just as dangerous as being on a phone while driving. Seems like if folks actually cared about their dog they'd want it safe...in the back. What if you gotta brake really fast and hard poor pooch is going to go thru the windshield. Ive seem big dogs like German Shepherds with their head out the window...how tf can these people see past all that a33?!

  • rampage jackson

Um, the lady that had the dog in her lap that caused the accident wasn't the woman with the five kids.

  • 7ate9

Sprites would have a fit if they couldn't tongue kiss their pooch or smell their a33 while they attempt to drive with those big dogs hanging out the driver side window.

  • Particularly petty

Godspeed to Mr. Williams and everyone involved. ??

  • jussaying

Lmfao pedestrians get on my last nerve. I just know Ima be in jail for running some dumb pluck over. I make a note to walk in the crosswalk on my turn. However that still doesn't help. Some old Asian guy almost ran me over while I was in the crosswalk bc he couldn't see. I'm like bruh. YOUR GLASSES THICKER THAN THE WINDSHIELD PLZ RETURN YOUR LICENSE TO THE DMV.

  • Fendi

I'm disgusted that someone felt the need to mention a dog riding in a driver's lap was killed. That driver may have been paying more attention to her damn dog than the road, which caused the death of Mrs. Williams.

This is truly heartbreaking. My prayers to the decedent's family, friends and colleagues. Such an unfortunate loss.

  • Fendi

I saw an idiot driving with one foot up, propped on his or her window. People are beyond stupid today. And, of course, the police are never present to cite people when they should be.

  • yvette46

Prayers going up too their family! ! This is so heavy to bare..

  • Lorenzo Chaps

You see folks driving with these busy body dogs in their laps all the time though. Wow. I wonder what the true distraction was or what caused the other car to cross the center lane. Condolences.

  • Auditor

Exactly my dad totalled the car when I was younger cause the dog licked his arm and he looked down for a split second. The dog was in my sisters arms...accident happened right around the corner of the house.
