Montrell Jackson

Officer Montrell Jackson, 32, was among six police officers shot in an ambush in Baton Rouge, LA. Sunday morning. Three officers lost their lives. 1 cop is in critical condition, the other 2 are in stable condition.

Jackson and the other officers responded to a report of a man wearing a mask and carrying an assault rifle less than a mile from the police precinct. As they arrived at the scene less than a mile from the police percent, they were ambushed and shot.

Police identified the gunman as Gavin Eugene Long, 29, of Kansas City, MO.

Long reportedly traveled from Kansas City to Baton Rouge to target cops near the site where Alton Sterling was killed by white officers 2 weeks ago.

Jackson was a 10-year veteran of the Baton Rouge police force. He leaves behind a wife and a 4-month-old son.

Jackson wrote a heartfelt post on Facebook in the wake of the Dallas mass shooting on July 7 that left 5 officers dead.

He stated he was disappointed in family, friends, and officers who made negative comments about the shootings. “I still love you all because hate takes too much energy but I definitely won’t be looking at you the same,” he wrote.

He added: “I swear to God I love this city but I wonder if this city loves me. In uniform I get nasty hateful looks and out of uniform some consider me a threat”.
