Darren Benson, of the UK, is furious after officials at George Pindar School sent his 13-year-old daughter, Chanise Benson, home for wearing white dreadlocks extensions.
Benson, who is Caucasian, said he splashed out £140 ($170 USD) for his daughter to have the ethnic hairstyle done. Chanise got her hair done special for her sister's birthday during the half term break. She was sent home from school when she returned after the break.
According to Splash News, Darren accused the school of practicing "double standards" -- because a classmate of Jamaican-descent is allowed to wear dreads.
Dreadlocks are worn by Jamaicans who adhere to the Rastafarian religion. Cutting their dreads is a violation of their religious beliefs.
Wearing dreadlocks extensions is an insult to true Rastafarians.
Bajan singer Rihanna, who is not a Rastafari, removed her fake dreadlocks after she was informed of her religious appropriation.
