Black Friday

It's Black Friday in America, the day after Thanksgiving that officially kicks off the Christmas shopping season with huge sales, bargains, and deaths.

2 people were killed during Black Friday riots in America. The death toll is expected to grow.

A 20-year-old man was killed and his brother was wounded in a shooting outside a Macy's store in New Jersey early Friday.

And a person was killed outside a Walmart in Reno, Nevada before doors opened for Black Friday shopping.

The senseless deaths helped fuel reports that America's Black Friday tradition is slowly dying as bargain shoppers stay home with their families and shop online.

In related news, the militant group Black Lives Matter blocked white-owned stores along Michigan Avenue in Chicago for the 2nd year in a row.

Kimberley Veal, a BLM organizer, said, “One of the cornerstones about why we’re boycotting on Black Friday is to attempt to redirect people to businesses owned by people of color and women, and explain why it’s important to patronize these businesses.".

It's really not that deep. I have NEVER been a fan or shopper on Black Friday. Smh it's not worth your life.

Big Red looks like it's a contest where the last one to take her hand off the TV is the winner.

  • Keesh5000

Wow...people dying over a deal. I've never participated in Black Friday. Pointless to me, Boosters dream day and I love my boosters

  • SpiceGirl

let this be the reason I don't do Black Friday Shopping!! damn shame!!

  • klwbaby

A little secret because I used to work at Wal-Mart, most of those TV's and other electronics are below standard quality. Instead of throwing them away, they save them for black Friday...

  • Keesh5000

I'm all for Black Lives Matter but they can't be blocking people stores
They may need to study MLK non violent movement
#BLM, but some stuff getting out of hands. I'm from TN so I'm ingulfed in a nonviolent movement...did few much

  • We Can Do This

If you have a propensity for violence and people being in your personal space, it's better to just stay home.

I don't agree with blocking stores. You can't fix stupid, lazy or crazy as I always say. If black people want to spend their money with people that have a deep hate for their kind, well that's their choice.

  • UGHHHH

    Sandrarose.. sucks.

For the past 5 years I havd found those same deals online without the burden of long lines, cold weather and physical violence

  • OrchidJones-Work for Money

Some people get a kick out of the Black Friday Madness.

I saw a Wendy Williams episode where she had her people search for the woman who was knocked down and wig came off during the trample. They show the video religiously every year thanksgiving and or black Friday. She was a recent guest who was given a gift card and a year supply of wig clips............really Wendy?

Anyways, good to see you working Sandra-Happy Thanksgiving weekend to you too!

  • shun king

Few members of my family just get up and leave already don't bought all t

  • OrchidJones-Work for Money

Prrreach... former Macy's Employee.... these same sales are hyped up 2x a year.

And...People need to know they hype the prices up and then by the time they give you coupons and percentages off, the sale YOU THINK you're getting is regular price.

  • Carolina Blue

    Its never that deep! Ever!!

Yep, the #BLM boycotting will make white folks rush to patronize Black-owned businesses.

If we patronized us more, we wouldn't have to worry about anything else. Our buying power is a huge part of the economy.

Black lives do matter, but i will never support this movement. These people don't seem to think these ideas through... at all ?.

  • OrchidJones-Work for Money

I will most definitely support black owned businesses but black owned businesses need to support us as well. More community outreach and come down on the prices a bit.

  • SG

Exactly. I never go out on Black Friday. Never got the appeal.

  • IntroSpective

The problem is they are all over the place. I think if ppl definitively understood the movement was about, they'd get more support. ?

Lmao I had to scroll back up

  • the guest

    Same here.

I finished Christmas shopping two weeks ago. Too many online sales and free shipping options to risk death at major retail stores.

I do like the experience of shopping, so I do small boutiques for stocking stuffers closer to Christmas Day.

  • Di Ana

? Ah well, if you're black you shouldn't be shopping. You get what you deserve if you entertain this foolishness.

  • NovemberFling

Yeah, you pretty much overthought that comment as well as missed the mark (point) on the BLM activist's comment as well.

  • GuestSTAR

There’s an outlet here in Livermore, Cali, it opened a couple years ago. Has some high end stores, i.e., Sakes Fifth Ave, Burberry, Brooks Brothers, Lecreuset, Giorgio Armani, Bloomingdales, Bergdorf Goodman, Polo etc…. yesterday afternoon on our way to my mother’s house for Thanksgiving they were already packed, parking lot full to capacity. On our way home last night around 8ish all you could see is a long line of lights with people exiting the freeway to get there. In the parking lot all you could see is even more lights with people driving up and down the parking
lot trying to find a parking space. People were even parking a mile away and walking. It was crazy. I don't see the logic in going through all that for sht that's not really discounted anyway.

  • NovemberFling

I don't understand the excessive griping over the BLM movement. If YOU don't support it, then be proactive and start your own black activist group that support your ideas of how you believe blacks should go about making our voices heard. Always the guilty ones who aren't doing shit for the black community who have the most negative crap to say.

Ignorant. Black Friday should have been canceled years ago. The ones raising the most havoc, are the ones who showed up with $10. Online shopping is the way to go.

  • Carrington

This is some good sheyit right here. It makes me feel good to see how ignorant I am NOT. It's a TV, or a toy... is a couple hundred dollars savings REALLY worth fighting a stranger, and embarrassing yourself over? Oh my DAMN! The only thing that would piss me off is if I have something and someone decides they want it and try to take it out of my hands.

  • Kilroy

    Sad

  • ?Patty Kakes?

    Smh

  • Noirluv45

This is PATHETIC! Grown people acting like savages for a TV. Unbelievable.

  • Noirluv45

    Will you please repeat this!

  • Lorenzo Chaps

Yeah, newsflash. The better deals come closer to Xmas though. Never be the first when it comes to shopping. THose last 2 weeks (in 2015 and 2014), I racked up on stuff from Wilsons, Macys, Nordstrom's. I'm just waiting for the "12 days of Xmas." During this time now, I may pick up a couple things, but I'm waiting til mid Dec to do real shopping.

  • Soon2BWife

That will be on "sale" until Christmas. Sheep mentality. Black Friday was so retailers can get in the black for projected sales early. Consumers act like it was created so they could save big money. BIG DUMMIES.

  • Soon2BWife

Wtf does boycotting businesses have to do with BLM?

  • GuestSTAR

EXACTLY!!! Back in 2000 on Black Friday, my sister and I both had it off so we took BART to San Francisco,
ate and shopped. That was the last time on a Black Friday. Online shopping wasn’t as popular and easy as it is now. Can’t see myself spending 30 minutes looking for a parking space, then standing in excessively long lines, I CAN’T.

  • SumthinSweeter

Lmaooooo... welp, another faction then huh?

  • Hmmm~?

All of the best deals are online, so why do folks keep risking their lives for this every dayum year?

  • scentsychick30

Savages going to jail over off brand TVs?. It's not worth it at all.

  • Tee Bullock

    Ridiculous acting like fools

  • Hmmm~?

The message would be clearly conveyed if BLM wasn't full of a bunch of ignorant fools. Not a single protest they've done has served any real purpose aside from giving people headaches. They need to find a meaningful way to protest aside from blocking stores and streets (causing enormous traffic jams), and then perhaps people would be more obliged to listen to what they have to say.

  • Tammie Reed

Where I live it was VERY calm and peaceful but I didn't really see what all the hype was about with Black Friday. If I wasn't doing a campaign for Target, I would have stayed home. I got what I needed and got the hell on lol.

  • Tammie Reed

I haven't been in Wilsons in years lol. I used to love that store for moto jackets!

  • http://sandrarose.com SandraRose

    Agreed.

  • digital_femme

Aaaand radio silence. I am shocked. SHOCKED, I tell you ? To be fair, it's much easier to complain and throw stones than it is to find or be part of a solution. Just sad.

  • NovemberFling

    True indeed!

  • Alicia.Ashe

    Shut up clown

  • Junkanoo

Thats the tough part small business owners can't price goods as low as big box stores
All other ethic groups support their own ,Mexicans shop at Mexican owned stores, same for Asians but not us black folks we have the worst time sticking together

  • Readytochokemothernatureonout

Smh it was nice and orderly where I went people in fact were helping each other. Smh shameful.

  • ChikPea

Yes they do!!! get yo ass out the neighborhood

  • acire

Many African American activists groups are urging and have urged blacks not to shop from this day until next year at primarily white owned organizations, and particularly those who carry Trump's merchandise. We have buying power, the most in the U.S. It's called #RedistributingThePain. We can't seem to call attention to our mistreatment any other way, why not hit people where it hurts, in their wallets? And this 'stuff' won't be in use long anyway.

  • puppylove

That is usually what starts the fights. People get bold and try anything.

  • Lorenzo Chaps

LOL Tammie, I go to their website every year mid December and always get a jacket or coat. The markdowns are crazy. I knew somebody was gonna be like "WILSONS?" But yes, Wilsons, still have good jackets and coats.

  • Salena Says

Say..just shop online. Most people are drunk anyway from the holidays. No person's life is worth a damn t.v.

  • Raquel WHITE

Oh so BLM is militant now? Do white people own this blog? I swear it's bad enough this site is so pro Trump and anti Obama.

  • OrchidJones-Work for Money

That's true. Due to hate, crab in the barrel mentality. I've always support black owned because I love progress. But a few make it bad for the remaining. Stealing is also another factor. Which jack up prices which leads to people not wanting to support. I've seen too many blacks go out of business in this country.

  • 88

That's a waste of time how about we stop celebrating all of their holidays like Thanks4KillingTheNativeIndiansDay, Christmas, Valentine's Day, Easter, Mother's Day, Father's Day, Independence Day. If we not gone go all the way then gripping about Black Friday means nothing.

  • 88

This is how so called whites used to act on the original Black Friday at the Slave Markets when they were wholesaling negroes.

  • Shira Harding-James

I have family that would pack up and car pool...for them it's the thrill, but for me I've never been enthusiastic about doing. Hell im shopping as we speak from behind my computer. Anywho I hope everyone had a lovely thanksgiving!!

  • ShadesofEMPRESS

Having experience with retail and being on the other end black Friday is so overrated and the people are fools. I thank God I'm out of working with people to that extent. I never hid my face expression. Coworkers stay laughing and customers stayed looking confused.

Perfect. We will take all these other holidays by storm, even though we can't get it together on this one. Shop on Black Friday and the next one too, but somewhere in between, educate yourself on the many ways blacks can make a statement. Economic boycotting is just one. But you'll learn.

I definitely can believe that! I went to Walmart this afternoon (not for Black Friday) they had a 50" $225 television brand name Element. My son was like mom can you please get me that, it doesn't cost a lot...since he asked for a bigger TV for Xmas. I explained to him the TV was probably a piece of sh*t AFTER I took him to the back to show him the price of the Samsung 50" TV. Lol! ITA Taylor. We are as a collective right where they want us. They can do whatever they like, and we will still line their pockets. Well, some of us will because we do it every other holiday. But bought sense is better than none!

It wasn't funny to me. None of it is. But of course to each their own. She said she was embarrassed. And I was for her. But you can google the episode or go to the network app and pull the clip because she was a guest thanksgiving day. It may be your college friend.

  • Well$$Well$$?

I worked in retail in college. The store I worked at raised the prices of the clothes and "cut" the prices so that the customer feels as though they're getting a great deal. I'm sure they're good deals during black friday but the majority of it's hype...

  • Mister Fantastic

When the BLM "movement" is bullying into my life ie: causing traffic, shutting malls/ businesses down, causing hard working people to get shorter hours/ lose their jobs, then it's more than a gripe! This is arse backward! Do your thing as it is YOUR RIGHT, but don't encroach on my rights in the process. That is plain dum and why I "gripe" about BLM! Hell, the KKK is not blocking my way to work or shopping lol.

  • George

As TheInformantSpy mentioned, There actually is a trend of people moving towards online sales and deals. i for one shopped all online this year. got three games for a total of $62 and a 2-yr vpn deal from ivacy for $36 and that was it for me. my friends shopped online too because it was pretty much agreed between us how rampant these retail sales can turn out to be. some have died for pete's sake.

Again, my statement stands. If you don't like it, DO YOUR OWN THING, something that YOU find more effective to the cause, but to moan and groan about something, and do nothing to counteract BLM is far worse than those minor offenses you've accused BLM of doing. While BLM was blocking the sidewalks outside the Water Tower Place in downtown Chicago, I was inside buying clothes to help people look their best during interviews. Last week, I bought a stranger a coat because he's been walking around in 30 degree weather, wearing a windbreaker. Next weekend, I'm going to buy four pairs of boots for people who just started a "from welfare to work program."

I dont understand Black Friday. People spend "Thanksgiving" being "thankful" for what they have, even though the holiday was started out of celebration everytime a Native American village was raided and destroyed. Then the next day people go out and damn near kill each over for some stuff. Some how that doesn't line up to me. SMH
