2 Chainz

A restaurant co-owned and operated by rap mogul 2 Chainz failed a health inspection, according to the Georgia Dept. of Public Health website.

Escobar Restaurant & Tapas opened less than 3 months ago to much fanfare in Atlanta’s Castleberry district. The restaurant, which was inspected on Feb. 17, received an unsatisfactory 59 grade for multiple food safety violations.

The violations included uncovered food, cross contamination of food, no thermometers in cold storage, and improper heating temperatures.

Escobar Restaurant & Tapas is located at 331 Peters Street in southwest Atlanta. The establishment is co-owned by lesbian entrepreneur Mychel “Snoop” Dillard, pictured below with 2 Chainz at the grand opening party in December.

  • Strong White Woman

Meh. As long as they ain’t got roaches imma still eat there? That there ‘snoop’ was so friendly to me. Must have been my low cut blouse? Comped my bill amongst other things, allegedly?

  • Bossy704

Guess you never had food poisoning. Seafood not stored at the right temperature? I’ll pass.

  • nucynu25

She look like she smoke newports & black&milds at the same time.

  • Gamer?? Chick

Seems like I am missing one. #FukkFolks2017 who are like dont open a Rally’s. Are they going to fix the parking lot. They are killing the ‘hood with the grease. That’s disgusting, a 59?? Shit is crawling with germs..close that mf down!

  • hi-liter

Damn….Shawn Combs can run a successful restaurant (Justin’s still open?) and aint em from ATL…..2 Chainz and TI failed miserably at this. With that being said, instead of trying to sell lobster tails and all that high end shat, better do like Rick Ross did and do some good azz wings.

  • puppylove

These issues have little to do with the branding, and everything to do with lack of knowledge regarding food safety.

  • Trey

    pass

Am I wrong for feeling that shehe is very attractive?

Politics….Asian spots in same area have rats” that pull out your chair for you” , and they are still serving last months shrimp.

  • SuperScooper1

But the company will send you guidelines and staff to help you successfully open and run the franchise. Plus it’s outlined in your franchise agreement the expectations (i.e. When to change out grease, how to cook the food, etc.) Almost anyone could run a franchise.

  • Trey

    And you know this how?

  • MISSMEWITDATBULL

    To the 5s?? LMAO!

  • missk85

damn….a 59??? sheeesh. that pic did decide what I will have for dinner tho. In my own kitchen with no cross contamination goes down lol

  • GuestSTAR

Plus with a franchise you gotta built in base of customers already. Folks go knowing how the food will taste. Corporate want you to succeed and will try and help you to be successful.

  • Junkanoo

Tapas are are expensive for small plates they add up fast, they must order all the ingredients from Spain, l don’t do tapas but like a little fine dining here and there $35 is the max l want to spend on upscale dining which is mid priced for fancy vitals

  • Renee Bee

You can’t eat from anybody and everybody. ???

  • reddfoxxy16

    LOL..

Black Resturants are big business in Atlanta, very big, with alot of celebrity investors and owners. The Health Department is full of low paid government employees…Quid pro qou…something for something.

Asians get a pass in general (even more so in the hood) …..as well their health standards are horrible in their own country and they bring it here .Yes, Ive traveled all over Asia.

  • Renee26

    Damn

BLACK RESTAURANT OWNERS…YOU NEED TO INVEST IN A FOODSERVICE COURSE FOR YOU AND YOUR FOLKS THAT WILL BE OPERATING SAID RESTAURANT IF YOU’RE TRYING TO STAY IN BUSINESS LONG TERM! UGH I CAN’T STRESS THIS ENOUGH…I MAY NEED TO GO INTO CONSULTING…OUR PEOPLE PERISH FOR LACK OF KNOWLEDGE…IF YOU’RE GOING TO PLAY THE GAME – QUIT HALF ASSING!

HELLO! FRANCHISING…THE ONLY MISSING PIECE IS LOCATION, LOCATION, LOCATION…

  • Prettybootnikki

I agree with u because some of their nail salons are a mess. But I haven’t traveled there. It’s a known fact that they are perceived as dirty people.

  • Peter Piper ATL

I disagree. Those “low paid government employees” perform a valuable task, which is, trying to keep your food safe–while being grossly undermanned.

2 Chainz doesn’t get immunity just because he’s a successful rapper. And the fact is, he needs to handle his businesses more professionally. I appreciate the need to bring all your homeboys fresh out of jail into the fold, but maybe not everyone needs to be working the door or serving food.

And Street Execs studios has the air of a luxuriously appointed crack house.

I applaud his success because it was a long time coming, and he’s a family friend. But he needs to leave some of the ratchetness out of his business.

  • Naomi

I was in a Walmart and went to use the bathroom, saw a nail technician who came in and went out WITHOUT WASHING HER HANDS. But she sure had her mask on though. Gross!

  • Peter Piper ATL

People equate a famous celebrity’s name with quality but that is not always the case. Gladys, Luda, T.I., Puffy–they all have/had eateries and look at how that turned out?

None of these people are serving your food when you come in the door and if by chance they happen to be there, you can believe they didn’t just prepare your meal. Quiet as its kept, Gladys had a team of illegals from Guatemala and Mexico manning her kitchen since damn near day one.

Celebrity restaurateurs know all they have to do is stick a name next to it and the money will come. Rarely are these celebs ever obsessed with the quality of the finished product, and that’s something you all need to keep in mind.

  • Prettybootnikki

    Just nasty. Pure d nasty.

  • Cricket404

Sad. It’s the employees that will ruin your business. Some people take their jobs seriously, while others will voice what they are not going to do. My favorite restaurant is Cafe Bombay, an Indian restaurant here in Atlanta. I get first class services from foreigners who barely speak English, they always have an A rating. Even Chin Chin has great service and ratings, servers don’t speak English there either. Most Mexican restaurants are clean. I eat chicken and rice 10 different ways. K Michelle just opened her restaurant Puff and Petals on Edgewood. I will try it once to taste the macaroni and cheese and greens.

  • Peter Piper ATL

That’s true. Food is a serious business. I’ve heard all kinds of stories about Luda’s place, Diddy’s place and I won’t even mention Tip’s place. Gladys was always getting a cut from her restaurants, don’t let her old ass fool you. And her and her son and that queen who was managing the one downtown pretty much let the Latinos run the kitchen without much supervision at all so you can’t really know for sure what the hell they were preparing back there.

Bu like I said–celebs want the money, they ain’t worried about no damn food quality. 2 Chainz is approaching the restaurant business the same way he approached everything else in life: lots of thugs, drugs, ratchet chicks, and coonery.

  • Zizzle

I take it he’s not a friend of the blog.

  • Antigone Heart

Dare I say that restaurant business owners or their associated staff should take food handling courses to prevent failed health code ratings?

In Cali, the foregoing is done via: https://www.servsafe.com/ss/catalog/productDetail.aspx?ID=1825&gclid=CI3zk7fhpNICFQ8vaQodebEO8Q
    (or other sites)

In Georgia, the aforesaid parties may try the following: https://georgia.foodhandlerclasses.com/ (or other comparable sites)

The course prices are relatively affordable and insightful; as I took a course online to help an associate.

I wouldn’t pi$$ in an establishment owned by a “rapper,” let alone eat there!

  • Tiffany Miller

Trying to run a restaurant when it is NOT your passion is a huge fail. Leaving it in someone’s hands that doesn’t have a vested interest is also stupid.

  • Strong White Woman

Shiiiid. Hungry as I been lately, I may be able to overlook a few roaches as well? Just ignore them. Like I do the ones in my kitchen?

  • SWbeauty76

    I feel ya…you rite too…sadly

  • Vanity86

    Is Luda restaurant still open?
And didn’t Nene con an Italian man outta a pizza place? Or was that just for the storyline?

  • Readytochokemothernatureonout

After 3 months? Wow. He has to fire all the bad attitudes, idc types, and the cut corners manager.

  • The Last Word

Justins hasn’t been open for at least 5 years and I doubt it was successful financially. It was a bar with terrible overpriced food. Everybody drank but nobody ate.

  • INDUSTRY GURU

I didnt say they dont “perform a valuable task, which is, trying to keep your food safe–while being grossly undermanned.” ….this is indeed their job……

As I stated though…POLITICS gets in the way when it comes to inspections. The same goes for building codes and state licensing Im trying to be nice..but here goes.

I have associates (Industry and Entrepreneurs) who were able to fast track a lot of the hurdles, skipping a whole bunch of actual necessary red tape, food saftey standards, building code violations,…because of corruption “Greasing palms” (It can and will come back to haunt you)

Its like the same manor of corruption you see in housing with section 8 vouchers and the low income housing list..people who work on the inside “abuse the office” (the authority of the office). Think payola, and not just low level radio station stuff….Sony BMG was investigated and sued by the NY Attorney General. This type of corruption happens in alot of cities, but small Black Metropolis Atlanta has its hands very dirty,……mean while the Asian community is chopping up RAT STIR FRY and has pigeon and crow and possium traps set up all over the city…lol lol if you catch my drift.

I looked at the menu for this place, and truthfully, it looks delicious! I think he is speaking directly to black people’s palates, but he is undercharging for what he is serving. Also, he can learn and do better. It’s not too late. He’s a new restaurateur and having growing pains. I hope he figures it out because we can do whatever anyone else can do. He just needs the right team.
